THK gold mines of Virginia are beinj once more worked to advantage. A mini ber of Philadelphians have bought land in the neighborhood of Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, and Orange Courthouses, and it is estimated that capital to the amount of half a million of dollars, in the hand:? of companies and private individuals, has been invested in the business of digging and washing gold. Property in Fredericksburg and its vicinity is advancing in price, railroads are building in various parts of Virginia, and there is at least a certainty that the un: equaled resources of that Commonwealth will be developed. The mere business of collecting sumac and preparing it for a market is giying employment to many hands in JSortheasten Virginia, the product in
of ten mills alone having
been twenty-eight hundred tons. Thesp facts concern more than the inhabstants of the State immediately benefited and their near neighbors on the NoiflEh, for as the industries of the South grow and multiply, the burden oj national taxation will everywhere grow lighter.

"WINDOW FAST."
This is decidedly tho best and most import-1 ant invention of modern times. Its simplicity and wonderful adaption both for HOUSE and CAR WINDOWS is perfectly astonishing accomplishing everything that can possibly bo desirodi and yet being cheaper than any other window fast. For house windows it dispenses with weights and pullys, operating equally well on top and bottom sash, allowing either to be raised or lowered as much or lit-1 tie as wished to socuro ventilation, and yet be locked securely at every point, from tne intruder or burglar, and will nevor get out of I order. It has the poculiar element of locking itself in whatever position you leave it. For steam or horse ear windows they are finished in a variety of styles, making an elegant finish to the car windows, and the only arrange-1 mont ever introduced that can never fail.
