THE question of "who drank that wine?" was agitated at the Council meeting Tuesday evening, while' •considering:! the bills attending the late excursion.— Twelve bottles "Golden Eagle, $24.

THE caso of Stunkard ws. Noffsinger and Reynolds, involving a considerable sum of money, growing out of the sale of the Buntin House, has been before the Circuit Court for several days past, aud after closing the issues, was sent to Montgomery county, on yesterday, on a change of venue. .. 1

MORE HAIR-CLIPPING.—Last evening^ about half-past seven o'clock, a little daughter of G. W. Ball, while passing along Sixth street, had a portion of her hair clipped off with a pair of scissors She recognized the boy, or lad, who did it, as one Joe Goodman, a youth whose moral responsibility is not of the highest order. Policeman Vandever hunted up Joe and took him into custody. There have been quite a number of similar occurrences in the city during the past few months, and if the perpetrator of the outrages had proved to be anyone but a feeble-minded fellow, he won Id have re ceived some striking evidence of public iudignation. As it is, measures' should be taken to stop his ptesent style of amusement, but he is not a fit subject for severe treatment. The Hbuse of Refuge might be a good place for him.

"WHEREART THOU, ROMEO?"—(Shaks peare slightly changed)—was imploringly asked by to any visitors jto the Forepaugh show yesterday, who wanted to "see the elephant." Old Romeo wasn't there to be gaxed at, to be fed on candy by littleibqys, and have |mart peopie crack the old jokes about his trunk. He objects to traveling by rail, and in the attempt to put him upon the cars at Indianapolis he remonstrated and tore around at a dreadful rate. He is now on a -t£»mp with his keeper, by land through to 5t. Louis, where he will be "tamed." Old Romeo is willing to break roads tramping about the country and stand in the show for hours eating sottr gingerbread, bot he" rebels at the innovation of transporting menageries by rail. He does't like the arrangement, and seems determined to do all he can to force ^the proprietor! of "railroad shows" back to the old mode of transporting caravans by land. Romeo is an aged and respectable elephant, wjiio has traveled much and seen a great deal of the world and his opinions and preferences are entitled to some weigh!.

THE CNTIRE'^^Se'^I &&I&ining the Clay county excursionists in this city, is i$641. Hotel bills $542 carriages $85 wine $24j y^he Cougeil^api oWSMkd ol foot the balance.

MILK I—1The people of this city, who do not own cows, use milk at eight cents a quart. There's money in milk. A cow i®

a little. A good, honest, orthodox cowone which will give her milk down regu larly ind twice a day—will diqposit ^ten quarts of lacteal fluid in a clean pail daily. Counting nothing for the cream taken from the surface, and not calculat ing on its aduleration by water, these ten quarts are sold for eighty cents. This is for one day. Multiplying these eighty cents by three hundred and forty days (thus leaving out twenty five days for times thai tlie'cow don't "come up* ttdi for neglect of lazy milkers and milkists) —and we have the healthy little sum of two hundred and seventy-two dollars Counting the cream, the using of water in the milkman's usual proportion, and we can add at least seventy-five dollars more to the income from the cow—making the total receipts three hundred and forty seven dollars. No wonder that a cow is said to be a good thing in a.- family^ apd. even if the family have no babies.

A COMMUNICATION, elsewhere published, asks some pertinent questions in regard ito the management of the proposed charity hospital. Since tliat was in type, we have learned, from what may be called headquarters, jhat there will be no restrictions pliced upoii the free' fice of that version of the Bible generally used by Protestants, and that Protestant patieaJa .willbe entirely at liberty to Jiave the attendance of such spiritual advisers as they may desire. This, we hope, wiU rembye^any^misapprehemion 'nloj* Have existed on the part of any jortion^of the community.

ABOUT BOILERS.—Probably a large proportion of the JournaTs readers were somewhat astonished, yesterday, to find in that paper the following paragraph

We had to send to Indianapolis fdr ia steam boiler. Why can't Terre Hante have an establishment for. the manufacture of such articles?

The proprietors of the Jont'md had an undoubted right to send to Indianapolis or anywhere else, "for a steam hoiler," but it is not right to advertise tQ the world that they were compelled to do so for want of "an establishment' for the manufacture of such articles" in this city, It is hardly possible that any citizen of Terre Haute is ignorant of the faot that we have, here, one of the largest boiler manufactories in the We«t. The establishment of Wm. Cliff & Son has been ip operation, in our city, five, yea.rs^..jjjnd turns out more boiler* than any other works of the kind in thik Sfttte, with the exception of Sinker Co., at Indianapolis. ROB

On Tuesday evening about sundown, Mr. Anderson White, a farmer near Clin-
