ways:

Oil the 31 nt of March a party of Sioux hi Arraphoe Indians made it raid in our vicinity, killing six of our citizens. On tin.- morning in question Frank Irwin, about eighteen vears of age, and a Hon of J)r. Jarne^ Irwin, Ktarted on loot a little after

lie had gone about three-fourthn of a_ .nilerJiiisjief'ting no danger, when he was iuet by a party of Indians. Tliev fired, anil hit Itiin in the shoulder with a halfounce ball. He fell, was then taken and stripped naked, beaten fearfully, and then started to run and was filiot by three arrows—one penetrating over seven inches. He reached the limits of the own and was met by a man who brought him in.

Jle had the arrows taken from his body and lingered till the next.evening, when he died. He told his parents that hey kjiliedraBotlier man at the same time .:iid on search being made, the body of Jas. Otliick and Birmington were found about half a mile further, Otliick had two scalp* '•iken from him and was shot]th rough the head four arrows and a pick were also driven through. A party of three liuntiTs were then looked after, and they were all found dead at St. Mary's about ten or twelve miles from here. Their names were Jack McUuire, Eugene I'orburg and A I. Kellogg.

All werestripped naked. Forburghad a tomahawk driven under his eye. Mc(iuire had three scalps taken from, and had eight arrowH and twelve shots in him. It was a fearful sight. The five were hurried here on Sunday, the 3d, and Otliick was taken to South Pass.

How long the Government will allow this butchery go on without protection, wc know not but each and every man, woman and child pray for the speedy arrival of such men as Sheridan, Uaker and Custer, or any such men as they have proven themselves to he. We have rich mines, butthe continual harassing of these "poor Indian's" keep miners from working them as they should be. v: —oJf

Kapidity of Thought in Dreaming. A very remarJcable .circumstances and au important point of analogy is, said (r. Forbes Winslow,' to be found in theextreme rapidity with which the mental operations are formed, or rather with which the material changes, oil which the ideas depend, are excited in the hemispherical ganglia. It w.oiild appear as if a whole series of acts that would really occupy a long lapse of time, pass ideally through the mind in one instant. We have in dreams no perception of the lapse of time—a strange property of mind for it such be also its property when entered jitlo eternal disembodied statet time will appear to us eternity. The relations of sipace as well as of time are also annihilated so that while almost an eternity is compressed into a moment, infinite space is traversed more swiftly than bv real thouirht. There are numerous illustrations of this principle on record. A gentleman dreamed that he had enlisted as a Mihlier, joined his regiment, deserted, was apprehended, carried back, tired, condemned to be hIIOI, And at last led out ior execution. After the uaiial pfeparaions a gun was fired lie then*awoke kli

him. .jj A friend of Dr. Abercrombie dreamed that lie had crossed the Atlantic and spent I fortnight in America. In embarking, nil'his return, he fell into the sea, and, awakening in the- fright,, found' thnt he hpd nut beeiiaaleep ten minutes.
