A PATENT RIGHT MAN RIGHTED! Some two weeks since Major J. Robeson, representing the Goodyear Rubber Cortipany appeared in this city and commenced assessing our dentists in sums ranging from $50 to $100 for infringement of the rubber patent. These assessments have been made before, and have generally been paid, but this time the dentists had a consultation and agreed to arrest the agent for violation of the recent State lalv Veqtiirlftg patent right" men to register- tjieihselvflB «ind "procure certain papers at- the County Clerk's office. He gave bond for his appearance in two weeks.. On yesterday lie presented him self before the Mayor, accompanied by the Company's attorney from Michigan, The case was tried before a jury and the defendant was mulcted in the sum of twenty dollars and costs. Tjiis was on one charge. Each of three'other dentists had similar charges. On these the Mayor sed five dollars each, which with costs made a bill of $68.40 The agent contended the State law was unconstitutional, but is now of a different opinion Our dentists are in high glee over his discomfiture The latter left the city sacking his gums," which are not of rubber.

How SMALL EXPENDITURES COUNT.— Five cents each morning—a mere trifle Thirty-five cents per week—not much yet it would buy coffee and sugar for a whole family, $18.25 a year—and this amount invested in a savings bank, at the, end of a year and the Interest ttoereon at 6 per cent., computed annually, would in twelve years amount to more than $670 —enough to buy a good farm in the,West. Five cents before Breakfast, dinner and supper -you'd hirdly unirfsit, yet it is 15 cents a day, $1.05 per week—enough to buy a small library of books. Invest this aa befbre, and 1* ttmity ^eare yon have1 over $3,000—quite, enough tg buy a good house and lot. EASTER.—To-morrow will be "Easter Sunday." The day is commemorative of the rising of Christ, and closes the season of Lent. The following from a very old paper, in relation the ancient sports of Easter, will prove interesting:

On Easter Monday, also, the boys were rogues enough to remove the girls' buckles and on Easter Tuesday the young ladies revenge themselves by depriving their sweethearts of shoes and buckles both. Any one at all acquainted with the biographic channels of history, and the curious by-paths Jof antiquity will readily recall a hundred anient afid obsolete customs, once general iff foreign lands, and to f.ome extent in this country. The throwing of apples into churchyards after evening service on Easter Sunday the repairing to the parsonage to partake of bread, and cheese, and ale the beating and stoning of Jews in districts where the prejudice of bigotry was widely spread the school boy shouting the doggerel "Christ is riseh, Christ is risen all the Jews must go to prison" the putting out of church fires, and the rebuilding them with flint the burning brands, hallowed by the priests, and carried home by the parishioners the large paschal tapers, tinctured with frankincense, and blessed to the sound of music the consecration ol crosses and banners and oil the garnished torches, the garlands of lavender and rose, the green rushe9 and the fair flowers the ringing of bells, the clapping oif hands the fat hens and the dainty flitches of bacon the fapcy cakes and puddings made of eggs sugar and sack, cream, spinach and butter the pudding pies and the cherry beer the rolling of young couples dow steep hills the beating of husbands ojjeday, and the beat' iag of wives the next the "clipping" oif village churches by charity children tihe dancing of the sun in honor of.the resurrection the cheese custard and clotted cream the eggs and herbs, greensaiice and radishes the penny loaves distributed from, chprch steeples among the childifenofthe poor the red herrings and corn salads thepeace-eggers' songs the holiday games by land and water tilting spears and quivering shields,

Other things too numerous to be particularised, wore connected with the games df the past.

The Easter egg, so great a feature of tie Easter season, is also known as the iPasche Egg, (ovum, paschale.) The present of this is traced by" some antiquarins Up to the theological and philosophic tenets of the Gauls and the Greeks, and i^ven Persiaas and Egyptians. With them the egg was the symbol of the universe, and was held inreverence accordingly It has seemed strange tp some that Lent should, in some foreign countries particularly,!^ ushered in.with'reyerly, and dismissed With the'clamor of frivolity. This contrast cannot be laid to the account of Aorbid reaction. The spirit of the season fructifies the spirit of* its outward manl testations. The domains of religion in. (dude seasons of exclusive solemnity. The season of Lent is one of these. But pure rteligion does not look with severity on the plessiflg playfulnecs of the world abound.

It is not the province of this paper to detail the process by which Easter pggs are colored. That part of the business is ih the exclusive possession of confection ejrs, stall-keepers, mothers with boys school, and a few others.

It is Understood that cochineal, and tkllow, and hot water, are brought into re in in a A speckled, pie-bald, or bird's-eye appearance is often aimed at. Names, births, marriages and deaths bow and arrows, miming torches, and truelover's knots do duty during the Feast of Eggs. Brown flowers, leaf gold, juice of herbs, and the yiellowing furze blossoms were formerly ejnployed. Eggs are often preserved om year to year in long-stemmed ale asses, and eggs laid on Good Friday are, some, considered of perennial worth nfires, sweet briar, citron buds, jasmine boughs, and orange blossoms, once lent a sweetness and a beauty to this sin gular festival, and vied with the Cash' merian Feast of Roses. At the present day the religious services being over, boys, especially, have the day to themselves. "Good-eggers" are all the go.— there are prize and champion fighters in the list. In the churches, the services at this season always are of a deeply solemn character. The religious soul pf the com munity finds an appropriate oxpressipn ih the commemorations of Eastertide.
