reeling, bowing, with eyes half shut, apparently unconscious' of his place or des tination, barely able to stay in the saddle —thus went an old man out of the city at dark—and we wondered if he had family, and what will be the scene on his arrival homeland how will the wife and thildren enjoy his return, and then what a pity it is that such an old man should soberly enter, our fair and attractive city and depart from it in such a cohdition.

Arold.—We direct the atten

This house is doing a large business this season, and well it deserves it for no more clever, accommodating and gentlemanly dealer can be found than Mr. Her/., who has' charge of the establishment He has a very line stock of ladies' goods, and as this house deals *exclnsively in this line of goods, ofcourse the ladies will find an advantpgfi. in^tyje and price. of

I have just received the following dispatch r'A New

Yqrk, April

No. 808 Broadway.

Bishop Kingsley was on a tour of Episcopal visitation to the Foreign Missions under the care of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He left his home in Cleveland, Ohio, nearly a year ago, for China, by the overland route to California, holding the-Colorado, Oregon, and California Conferences in his route. Embarking^ at San Francisco, he visited China, spending some time at its principal cities, and .from thence to Japan, and thence to India, presiding over q. session i. of the Methodist Conference in India, and from thence to Egypt and Palestine, and was expected in Europe in a feflr weeks from now, when life wo'tild visit the Methodist mission in Germany, and Norway and Sweden, and return to the United States during the summer. But* alas, tor all human calculations'," fife Eisiop's extensive journey has been suddenly terminated by death. His interesting letters have already been circulated "and read 'with pleasure. The Bishop was an able preacher. He distin guished himself as a vigorous writer while editor of the Western Christian Advocate,: and the .church entertained great hopes from his labors as one of her chief IKtslors., C, HoiJjiiMY.

is the young man at whom George

Harding of the Mirror 'slings ink tliusly?, During a recent visit to Terre Haute W^ had'occiision to,call on a" well known banker of that city. THe banker was not in. We saw one of his clerks.^ .The "gorgosity" of that young man is positively frightful, and we don't want to see him any more—when the boss is out. We are not in the least afraid of the banker, but his clerk overwhelms ns. Such dignity, such austerity, such freezing politenf*3s! That young man can.make a good thing of it during the approaching hot weather by abandoning hanKing, and running as a refrigerate*!:. At any rate lie can turn his good looks to some account by selling photographs of himself, as he appears behind the, coulter,,tawfully serene and coldly critical.

COUNTY EXCURSION.

LETTER FROM A. I), hamrick, president of the state board of agriculture.

Editors Terre Haute Express: The great excursion-to the Clay county coalfields and iron furnaces is over the object for which I have been working for years, has been accomplished. The manufacturing public has been brought to see and to realize the great resources of Indiana. The usual complimentary resolutions have been passed, but. those resolutions fall far short of expressing the gratification of' the jniblic, and espjecially^of the Board of Agriculture, foiMhe admirable manner in which the excursion was man aged. The courtesies of the Terre Haute and Indianapolis Railroad, in furnishing a train of their magnificent new coaches free oif charge, the elegant and sumptu ous dinner -'furnished by the citizens- of •Brazil and the kindness of 'the citizens of Terre Haute, was so far in advance what is usual on such occasions,' that ordinary resolutions are an -empty tribute, and fail to express the gratitude of our Board, and as a member of the Board, wish, again, to express my thanks to them all, and especially to the model conductor, John M. McMahori, who was untiring in his efforts to promote the com fort and pleasure of the excursionists. Such extraordinary efforts to promote the public good, should, and doubtless -will receive its just reward. 2,a.»8 A. -D.--HAM«:IOK.
