Two new Bishops have been nominated by Mr. Gladstone. The Bishop of St. Asaph is to be Rev. Joshua Huges, Vicar ofLandovery. The new Bishop of Chichester is to be the venerable Archdeacon Durnford, canon of Manchester, and rector of Middleton—an Oxford first classman as long ago as 1826, and an Etonian. He is said not to be a "party man" either in the political «r ecclesiastical sense.
Although it is a well-estabfishe fact that two-thirds of the dyspepsia under which American communities suffer arc due to ill cooked food, of which fried meats are the most pernicious, thousands of families hang fast to the destructive frying-pan with a fondness that is seldom surpassed. A pound of fried meat does not contain so much nutriment as four ounces of broiled meat, but in the face of this fact, the old settlers will have tluir fry, and many of their descendants arc demoralized by the example.—-Yew York Etpress.

'SPEClAl* NOTICES.
Cantion-ladaelmis Counterfeit! The reputation which, for many years, has 'attached to "Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, as the Standard Tonicof the Age, and the large demand for the article, not only in the United
States bat elsewhere, have provoked the cupidity of tho Counterfeiting Tribe, aad it has been extensively Simulated and Imitated by unscrupulous sharpers.
The most daring counterfeit of said article, which has been attempted, has recently come to our knowledge. The engraved, steel lapel on battles containing the gcnuino. bitters, with its beautiful vignette of St. George and. I the dragoti. its shield, containing a ysrnir npainrt wwmterfeSters, and its note of'h«— for "one cent" at the foot, signed with our firm name, has been copied so closely that the fraud can only be detected on a minute, inspection. Th© dark label is also well counterfeited, and the wording on both the imitation and genuine, are precisely the same, the difference being simply in the execution of the work tha£of the imitation being somewhat coarser than the genuine. Other counterfeits are on the market, which are in all particulars the same as described above, with the exception of a slight difference in the spelling of our name.
In addition to the above, these counterfeiters have gone so far in some instances as to place a strip of paper over the cork and Cuten to tho neck of the Dottle, on which is a vignette, aad .otherwise printed to resemble the general appearance of our proprietary U. S. Revenue slamp, but upon inspection will disclose the absence of the figure "4,"' and the words "four cents," also "united States Internal Revenue," all of which, together With additional wording, appear on our genuino stamp. The public are, therefore, especially warned against these new Counterfeits, and are advised to purchase Hostetter's Stomach Bitters only of houses whose integrity is above suspicion. The tree specific is sold in bottles exclusively—never in bulk. HosTKTTKR Smith.
Madness Paralysis Death! may ensue from using preparations for coloring the hair charged with acetate of lead and sulphur. You may know them by the heavy metallic sediment which has to be shaken up before the disgusting compound can be applied. The"Journal ofChemistry"saysthere are thirty of them in themarhet. There is but one dye in existence which contains no deleterious substance, and that is Cristadoro's Excelsior Hair Dye, which has been carefully analyzed by Professor Chilton, and declared by him to contain no lead or any other hurtful ingredient. See is manuscript certificate, at Cristadoro's, 6 Astor House, New York.

Col. Philo P. Bush, of the ".Jerome Park Race Course," Fordham, N. Y-, would not use them until he was told of what they were composed, since which time lie is never without them. Life is the Gift of God. ft Whce we are sick this life is obscured, under a cloud, oppressed with humors. Expert ence has taught us certain means, which never fail for their removal. The child receives with his life the seeds of his death. It may take one, or one hundred years, before the seeds bear their sad fruit, but just as sure as the seeds of death ripen, life ceases. Purging is the grand safeguard, because then what fosters the seeds of death are taken away, expelled from the body.
Govern Yourselves by Experience. My child, aged five y.ears, had.scarlet fever, and" for five days had constant fover. I proposed Brandreth'sPills to this ho would not consont—saying she was too weak. I consulted with my husband, and we concluded to give her three pills. In about four hours they operated, filling half full common chamber. After that operation the fever left her, and she rapidly rocovered.— Reference, 20G Clermnot Avenue, Brooklyn.

Of the many remedies for tho cares of Colds, Coughs Croup, Hoarseness and kindred complaints, that'has been upon tho market in the past five years, 1 know of no other in which I nave so great faith, and the very large sale of the "Eli.xir" shows that it is being thoroughly appreciated. MEDICAL.
Washington Avenue, St. Louis, Mo., treiits with the greatest success all Diseases of Woman, Loncboraia, or Whites Falling, Inflamation or Ulceration of the Womb, Ovaritis, Pruritia, Amenorrhea, Menorrhagia, Dysmenorrhoea, and Sterility, or Barrenness also, every disease connected with Pnberty, Menstruation or Pregnancy. Since the Doctor confines hiuiself exclusively to the treatclient of those com plaints, and treats a very large number of cases, it follows that bis knowledge of them must be far more extensive and accurate than that of physicians in general practice. Send stamp for Medical Pamphlet of thirty-six pages. No matter who have failed, read what ho say". Patients in every Western State. Cures gunrranteed.— Consultation by letter or at. office free. DR. WHITTIER,
A REGULAR GRADUATE OF MEDICINE, as Diploma at office will show, has been longer engaged in the treatment of Vonereral Seyual and I'rivaee Diseases than any other Physician in St. Lonis.
Syphillis, Gonorrhea, Gleet, Stricture, Orchitis, llornis and Rupture, all Unfnary diseases. Syphilitic or Mercurial Affections ot the Throat, Skin or Bones, are treated with unparalleled success.
Spermatorrhea, Sexual Debility und lmpotoncy, as the result of self-abuse in youth, sexual excess in mature years or other causes, and which produce some of the following effects, as Nocturnal Emissions, Blotches, Debility, Dizziness, Dimnes of sight, Confusion of Ideas, llvil i'orbodings. Aversion to Society oT Females, Loss of Memory and Sexual Power, anl rendering Marriage improper, arc permanently cured.
The Doctor's opportunities in hospital and private practice are unsurpassed in St. Louis or or any other city. Back files of St. Louis papers prove that ho hits been located there longer by years than any other so advertising. Tho establishment, library, labratory aud appointments, aro unrivalled in the West, unrivalled anywhere. Ag», with oxperienceS ean be relied upon, and the Doctor can refer to many physicians throughout the country. In past success and present posiion he stands without a competitor. THE WRITINGS OF A PHYSICIAN WHOSE
REPUTATION IS UNION-WIDK, ARE WORTH READING. Doctor Whitticr publishes a Medical Pamphet relating to Venereal Diseates and the disastrous and varfed consequences ot seltabuse, that will be sent to any address in a sealed envelope for two stamps. It contains full symptom lists that will enable those a!focted to determine the nature of their coinpluintand givo a written statement of their case that will answer almost as well forthe purpose of treatment as a personal intc view but where it is convenient the Docli! should bo consulted personally. Those having friends that may require advice, can supply them with this valuable work sending their address, with stamp. Thus you can assist the unfortunates without their knowing their benefactor. Certainly nosnbiect is of uiore importance than purity ot blood and pcrfoct manhood.
It is self-evident that a physician who confines himself exclusively to the study of a certain class of diseases and treats thousands of cases every year, must acquire greater skill in that specialty than only general pruL'tice. Many physicians, recognizing this fact, introduce patients to the Doctor after reading his Medical Pamphlet. Communications confidential. A friendly talk will cost yon nothing.
