Schism in the Sorosis.

From the St. Louis Republican.] We were inclined to liail the recent events in Wyoming as a grand stride toward the perfect consummation of the woman's rights movement, and as furnishing unimpeachable evidence that the gentler sex werehoth willing and able to discharge the most onerous duties of completed citizenship. The fearful ordeal of lour days in the jury room, the pangs of despised love, the wailings of disconsolate husbands and forsaken children, the loss of regular meals and slumber, the thousand annoyances which accompanied the triumphant conviction of Mr. Howie for manslaughter, all borne with such sweet resignation and such inimitable grace by that gallant group of undaunted females, we felt sure would pave the way for the speedy abolition of every restriction that now fetters the aspiring genius of oppressed femininity. We certianly did not for a moment suppose that the brilliant future just opening before the sisterhood would be marred, if not hopelessly ruined, by traitors in their own camp. It might not have been a matter of so much surprise had this treason emanated from those males who have here and there identified themselves with the cause, and jvhoae naturally weak and timid eouls shrink from the grave issues involved in the rapid rise of progressive crinoline but when the tfaitors are women, women, too, heretofore prominently identified with reform, we confess that our wonder is infinite. The burst of illtimed conservatism to which we allude originates, of course, in Chicago, and assumed formal shape in a caucus held there a few days since. Mrs. Elizabeth Goodrich Millard, and several other equally distinguished ladies, have the unenviable honor of sowing the seeds of dissension by attempting to organize anew suffragefassociation upon what we deem a heretical platform. Mrs. Millard and her colleagues decline the cardinal principal of their faith to be that the legislative department of national, State and municipal governments should be under the control of women, while the executive and judicial departments are consigned to the exclusive care of men. Mrs. Stanton, Miss Anthony, Miss Dickinson. and Miss Cozins and the rest of the true church utterly repudiate this doctrine, and, as it is impossible as well as impolite to remain neutral in the Struggle now impending, we unhesitatingly side with the apostles last named, and join them in hurling anathemas at the schismatics. We pronounce the Millardites reactionists of the most dangerous type, whose doctrines, if allowed to spread, will surely work confusion in the ranks of the faithful, and bring the glorious crusade, already in sight of the promised land, to a lame and impotent conclusion. The central idea is essentially in ignoble one looking, as it does, to relieving women from responsibilities which the Wyoming jury have Bhown them eminently fitted to bear with credit to themselves and profit to the community According to the Millard creed, the sex are to be forever debarred from serving on juries, acting jas constables, sheriffs, policemen, magistrates or judges, and must limit their sphere to congress, State Legislatures, Cqmmon Councils and the like. Thev are to be.

Carrird to the skies,

On flowery feeds of ease. While men must fight to win the prize, And sail through bloody sens. This we hold to be begging the question entirely, a base .surrender of those cardinal truths which have been promulgated on so many platforms, and spread broadcast on the wings of the Revolution. Are women ready to thus confess tlieninferiority to their former masters? Are they disposed to dodge the legitimate and rightful consequence of the gospel of emancipation? Will they fall to the rear, and skulk among the noncombatantw and baggage wagon' when the charge is sounded? Never, never! Having put their hands to the plow, they will neither look back nor relax their hold, though the sod be tough and the slumps numerous. Had the Wyoming worthies been made of such poor staff as

Mrs. Millard, Mr. Howie, instead, of dwelling Comfortably in the penitentiary, would have been food for worms weeks ago. They hung the jury, thereby saving Howie from being hnng. This illustrious example must not be ignored or disgraced the standard must not be lowered a single inch, but borne forward and planted in the centre of^ the enemy's citadel. No pent up I tica' must be suffered to contract the female powers no concessions of compromises shall be listened to or thrught. of no department in church or state must be deemed too hot or too heavy for their management. The executive and judicial is as much their vocation as the legislative, and they cannot enjoy the one without shouldering the other. The Afillardites should be excommunicated with bell, book and candle, fct the earliest practicable moment, and we urgajhe assembling of a

National FeinaleCouflfcil to do the business. 'fc.-

A certain stuck-up lady In ^London says the New York Fiyuroy of the shoddy order, once gave a fashionably soiree, and to make affairs iwiss off more brilliantly, hlie entered into an arrangement with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Paul to be present in the evening and give a quotation for their entainment. The price fixed was two guineas. "You will dine with ns," said the lady with a gracious smile but as the dinner I offer you is at least worili a guinea—that is, two guineas for the two '_X shall hand you the difference." Pianists will &U be grieved to hear that, on the llthofflast monti, the senior of virtuosos on the piano, Ignatz Moecheles, died at Leipeig, where he had been a professor oi piano at the musical conservatory formore than thirty'yean. Moecheles was the professor of a piano school which flourished upwards of thirty years. Hia method had to^gtve place to the moderntechnic introduced such musicians as Lizst and Thalberg, because their compositions created technical difficulties which could not be overcome by Moscheles* method. The increasing delight of pianists^ in the compositions of Beethoven, Chopin and Robert Schumann, also went a great way in obliterating the old virtuosos TwtWiff? which—elegant and extremely easy as it was—did not reach the depth of classical usic. With Moscheles' method of piano playing it was not possible to do" justice either to the great masters of the classical

genre, or to the neckbreakihg compositions of the modern composers for the piano. MoscfctSfeT died at the age of 76 years, and, though an active professor of his art until a few days previous to his death, he neverthelessoutlived his glory mpre than a quarter of a century.—St. Louis Republican. .terw'irfsr "ft

SPECIAL NOTICES.

rantton—indadans Couterfeit! The reputation which, for many years, has attached to "Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, as the Standard TONIC of the Age, and the large demand for the article, not only in the United States but elsewhere,, have provoked the cupidity of the Counterfeiting Tribe, and it has been extensively Simulated and Imitated by unscrupulous sharpers.

The most daring counterfeit of said articlet which has been attempted, has recently come to our knowledge. The engraved, steel «abel on bottles containing the genuine bitters, with its beautiful vignette of .St. George ana the dragon, its shield, containing a wanning against counterfeiters, and its note of hand for "one cent" at the foot, signed with our firm name, lias been copied so closely,.that the fraud can only be detocted on a minute inspection. The dark labei is also well counterfeited, and the wording on both the imitation and genuine, are precisely the same, the

tcrfcito are on the market, whith are all particulars the same as described above, with the exception of a slight difference in the spelling of our name.

In addition to the above, these counterfeit ers have gone so far in some instances as to plncc a strip of paper over the cork and fasten to the neck of the bottle, on which is a vignette, and ^otherwise printed to resemble the

SLevcnueappearance

eneral of our proprietary U. S. slnmp* but upon inspection will disclose the absence of the figure '"4. and the words "four cents," also "United States Internal Revenue," all of whioh, together with additional wording, appear on our genuine 8tamp. The public are, therefore, especially warned against these new Counterfeits, and are advised to purchase Hostetter's Stomach Bitters only of houses whose integrity is above suspicion. The tme specific is told tn bottles excliwvely—never in bulk. Hostktter Smith.

BRANDRETH'S PILLS'. Their great value consists in this: They may be used so long as' any disease affects any of the organs of the body and by thus perseverinirin their use the .disease will be cured, and th& body restored to health, free from every taint and impurity. Their reputation proves their merit, j'

Thomas Smith, Coroner and Justioo of the Peace, Hastings-on-the-Hudson, says Brandreth's Pills cured him of Dyspepsia and Heartburn, when every other medicine had failed to relieve him. Certificate dated April 2,1868.

Dr. Turner, of Savannah, Qa., says he has, for nearly forty years', recommened Birandreth's^ills as a1 specific in Yellow Fever that he nover knew a patient to die who took them for this malady, being otherwise sonnd. Their prompt use takes out of the body those matters which feed the fatality of the disease. As general family medicinq he considers them far in advance of all others, and here he speaks from personal experience of their qualities. .a^I/l
