Billiards.—In the contest at billiards lnkt niglit at Joe Kern's Saloon, between Ackerman, of Ohio, and Garrett, of Indi ana, two gtimes of 500 each were played, both of which were won by Ackerman. The largest run in. the first game, 67, was made by Garrett. In the second game the largest run, 278, was made by Ackerman, winning the game by 18 points.
Build More Housfs.—The need of dwelling houses, especially of small cottage houses, has been severely felt the past Fall and Winter, and as Spring advances doubtless the try will becomfc more general. Already every available house in the city is occupied, and numbers are boarding who would prefer having homes of their own. The coming season will bring large additions to the mechanical and laboring portion of our community, and theyiUhst havet house? in which to live. There will be men of means coining here to cast their destinies with the fortunes of '-our gtowing city but it is not so important to provide lor them. They can select their own sites and build for themselves. Tenement houses are what we want. The owners of real esyjte^and capitalists will stand much iu .ti&il owji ligfct, aMJntlict a lasting injury upon the prosperity of the city if they tlo «6t de\*St% a'^ottidn of their lands and capital to the erection of dwellings which can be rented to men of small mealiis at' prices which W^ll enable them to reside here wifh their fainilies.

This week the house of Sinker & Davis, Indianapolis, will occupy our space allotted to this purpose. This establishment is one of the first of its kind in the State, and one .which is widely known not only
Indiana, but also, we might say throughout the west. Their business extends into theJStates of Illinois, Ohio, Mia-, sourij ^aA&w, Nebfiisky.'MnnesotaJ lowai Wisconsin, Michigan, and even as far west as California. The well known in tegrity of Mr. Sinker, who for twenty years has been engaged in the business, combined with the excellent quality of the work done at their works during these years, have justly given them one of the largest trades of anv house in the State and perlmps in th^ AUt.
The great speciality of the firm is portable and stationary steam engines. As ,aaroof in theiuc pyil.cifii, ftifB&fr* toW aitilli that they have
fifteen or more
any engine i^-tis6." iTowele^ ^eil'these claims can be established we may conclude at least that then- engines are first class. They are now using the Bellis Governor jn regulating their speed
By his magnanimous liberality with his employes heretdfo^e, Mr. Sinker has become a general favorite among machinists where he is known, and thus the house is always able to command superior workmen. While perhaps steam engines constitute the largest of a single branch of their business, yet they are manufacturing a variety of other machinery, among which their circular saw mills deserve special notice. These mills are made with a heavy wood frame, with iron trim, mings. The form is very compact and the machine is a powerful one. They claim it is perfectly solid at the highest speed of the saw. The saw mandrel is three and one-fourth inches in diameter, claimed to. be of the best wrought iron, with a carriage twenty-four feet lblig.— Their three styles of reliable head blocks, of which one is a screw, aiid the other two are lever, nev6r fail to make lumber of uniform thickness, and as every precaution i3 taken to secure good material and workmanship, as a result accuracy, simplicity and durability are attained. Perhaj» of three styles of head blocks that they. ate using the Stiley patent is the best This block makes uniform lumber of any required thickness, cutting accurately from One to oneraifteentlt wf an'* inch. Each mill is"supplied with a complete outfit of everything required about a mill of this kind, together with belting,
Another braneh of the business is the supplying ~o£ ^patent extfagtorp .ipr, the* purpose separating theklime fr«mjthe. Water before it enters the boiler. Those Who have any experience with boilers know that the constant incrustations Which will gather upon the inner surface Where our well water is used, is a great Source of annoyance. These extractors have been foUna very satisfactory in overcoming this trouble, besides making the boiW last •much long'ef. The lime is very easily removed froiii Tlid extftiction and is easily managed without delaying the machinery. A person who is using steam cannot ,,welL afford to, do \yit one, when £he wafei1 deposits much of'a sediment. They are selling two kinds of these extractors at this establishment: the Hboston patent and the Still well'patent. They are both very good.
Still another valuable invention which this houses is furnishing is a low'water detector. This is simply a steam whistle With attachments epmanagjed that the instant the water 'Secotnes too low in the boiler an alarm is given through the whistle. With this attachment on a boiler there need be no danger from ac cident on account of Jow, wate^* They can be attached so thai tlfe* alarm"

They claim that their engines cannot be excelled in tMeit proportions, finish, working and durable qualities, and that they give more power on the least amount of fuel of

line will be some distance above the flues, thus preventing them from burning, a thing which ruins so'irlatiy btilersl sPBfe cheapness, simplicity and gjreat utility, of their detectors, commend them to every one using steam. They furnish two kinds: Ashcroft's patent and JJassev's patent, In this ^connection we will speak of their glass water guages.— They consist of a glass tube, into which the water from the boiler rises to a level with the inside, thus showing the height of the water in the boiler. Besides these various pieces, thby make a great' deal of Work necessary in .fitting up machinery, such as shafting, pulleys, boxing, sc.
From our limited space wejiave omit ted many piece^ of work that" might be spoken of at some* length, but enough has been said to cite vinCe the careful reader that he need not go out.^f the^aje for (his class of machinery.

This swMtprivilige we must forever forego.— The only reflection that assuages our anguish, is that death had no terror for him —he knew that he must die, and felt that the everlasting arms Were about him, and that his feet were placed upon the Kock Of ages. Constitutionally frail, he yet exhibited an energy of purpose, a firmness of principle, a magnamnity in despising difficulty, danger, suffering and death, that cannot but move the sympathy of all who knew him. With great earnestness and elevation of character he displayed a childlike docility in the discharge of the humblest duties: and in the.sweet and ender dev, otedness, the soft and clinging affection he had for his mother, it would not'be saying too much to add that his soul was pure gold—that every throb of his heart allied him to everything good and noble—but alas,] as much as we loved him and valued his friendship, his love we have lost it, it is enough.
