Wood Advice from a Matron. At the last meeting of the New York'Sorosis Mrs. Robert Dale Owen made a speech, in which she gave, her vounger sisters some good advice. She said: "The truth is woman's work is not estimated in the expenses of living. Every thousand dollars in monev that comes into a house has two thousand added to it by her labor. And long an women have the providing of man's food they can govern Aim as they choose. All this vast amount of domestic work has to be done, and ought to be done well. There was no reason why it should not be held in as high estimation as esthetics, which was all very well in their way no reason why it should not be thought quite as respectable. And the only way to make it so was to preach it up as having a pecuniary and intrinsic value, and to make every girl feel, upon leaving school, that she was to select at once some life-work for herself, .ind that unless she had some peculiar talent in another direction, that domestic labor ira* as high and elevated as any. She declared that no young woman should be willing to marry unless she were able to support herself, and could feel that she did not choose a husband that she might become a dependant. She did not approve however, of married women earning their own living. She thought it would ruin all the m«n iti America if their ives jqpported ikeniaekts their domestic duties, properly performed, were enough for them, and should be recognized al their proper value."

Secrets of Masonry.
From the Columbus Sun.1 Old Zach Wheeler was quite a character in his time, being a clever, easy going confiding man, who managed to let everybody cheat him out of his inherited estates. Just as his last farm was about to slip out of his hands, he succeeded in raising the money to lift the mortgage Aaron Remer, a prominent Mason, accompanied him tp the town. A$ they were riding along On 'horseback, Zaok siaysltb Aaron, in a confiding tone: "Now, Aaron, we are here, all alone, and I want you to tell me the secrets of Masonry. "I cant Zack, they would kill me?' "Why, no they won't, they'll never.find it out.".. I "Yes they will you'll speak of it.** "No, I swear I won't." "Well, if yon'l ride close alongside of me, and put your hand on my thigh, and take the oath I'll administer, I'll tell yon the secrets of Masonry."
Zach was not slow to comply and a most powerful "iron-clad oath" was administered and taken. "Now for the secrets." exclaimed the impatient and unsuspected victim. "Well," said Aaron, with mock solemnity and secrecy, "in the first place, we .\iasons combine together to cheat everybody as much as we can. This is the first grand secret.
The second is like nnto it. When we can't find anybody else to cheat, we cheat, each other, but as little as we can." "Well" exclaimed Zach, with evident surprise, "I swear I'll join. I wish I had done it twenty years ago—1 might have been a rich man afore now."

The BesiMmsibiUtivit of the Liver The liver has a very important part to per form if tigs aiin|^l economy. Its function is
r'two foB. f-The Mid whichit sccretcs temper* the blood and regulates the bowels, and u]on the quantity and quality of the secretion depends, in a great degree, the adaptation of the blood to the requirements of the system and the due removal of the refuse matter which remains in the intestines after the work of digestion has been accomplished.
One of the principal uses of Hostetter Stomach Bitters is to tone and control this somewhat unruly organ. The antibilious properties of the preparation are scarcely secondary to its virtues as a stomachic. Its operation upon the liver is not violent like that of mercury, but gradual and gentle. Instead of creatine a sudden. tumult in that sensitive gU^ ifr regulates its action by degrees.— HaKce, it is a SAMtremedy for bilious disorder? whftft MereSry, being atremandous excitant, is not. The more naturally and quietly a diseased organ can be restored to its normal condition the better, and it is the peculiar property of this harmless vegetable alterative to reinforce and regulate without exciting or convulsing.
The success which has attended its use as a remedy for affections of the liver is proverbial. Persons of a bilious habit who take it habitually S3 a firoteetion' against the attacks to which' tli ay ares constitutionally liable, pronounce it the best liver tonic in existence. The symptoms of an approaching fit of biliousness can hardly be mistaken. A pain in the right side or under the shoulder blades, a saffron tinge in the whites of the eyes, sick headache, a feeling of drowsiness, low spirits, loss of appetite, constipation and general debility aro among the usual indications of a morbid condition of the liver, and as soon as they appear the Hitters should be resorted to in order to ward off more serious consequendwlw
