,1M «A Princc in Trouble.
From tho San Francisco Bulletin, 7th. Among the recent visitors to our city was a wealthy and popular Japanese Prince. He had traveled through the Eastern States, inspected many prominent points of interest in the country, and now crammed with liberal ideas and valuable information, he was about to return to his native land and render an account unto the mighty Micado. The current expenses of an American official traveler, especially when bornebjr the Government, are not apt to leave his finances in a very healthy condition near the close of his journey. With our Oriental friend af fairs presented a marked contrast his treasury was plethoric. The day of his departure rolled around, and, in company with a few friends and $3,000 in gold ana silver coin, he was conveyed to the Pacific Mail Steamship Company's pier. For safe keeping the little valise containing the ^foresaid coiq was placed under a seat in the c^aoh) while the other cumbrous baggage remained outside. The party board ed the steamer, and cabby drove back to the city post haste to obey the subpo?na of a oourt. His Highness cast his eagle eye over the baggage just before the steamer started, and was horrified to find the familiar valise missing. Here was a dilemma—cabby and the coin gone, and the steamer to sail in live minutes. As a spectator remarked, he seemed to be annoyed, it not demoralized. Visions of hari-kari for malfesance in office seemed to float before him, and if the few hurried expressions in his rasping tongue could have been translated they would hardly present an elegant meeting. The Japan
Sailed away with the royal crowd and the hack. It was subsequently recovered in safe condition,"-and will be forwarded to Yokohama b| the next steamer.

I aioiiio. With the history of Mr. Peabody's eifcraordinary benefactions die world is familiar. He suffered no largess to pass out of hi* hand tutamtouiioed. In his earlier endowments upon Danvers and Baltimore there was less of the desire for fame apparent. His lips touched only the cup of applause. But the taste wa# pleasant it was whit his nature craved desire grew with its gratification he had not the heart to resist it and for the last few years of his life, up to to the very sick bed on which the debilitated and almost imbecile old man lay dying in that fialatial mansion of Eaton square, he drained the goblet to its bottom and thirsted for more.

Anyone who attempts to conceal this I gland, It regulates its action by degrees.— second ruling motive of Mr. Peabody's I Hence.Uisa 8AFB_remedy for biliousdijorlife, docs violence to truth. His friends had been aware of it more than twenty years before his death, and made it often in conversation a subjecfjof pleasantry and regret. In 18C7 I gave a sketch of his life in the National Intelligencer, which he no sooner saw than he brought up all the copies and had the articles re printed for circulation. When 1 met him next he thanked me, but added, "Hadyou xoaiteda few months you would have found I should do greater thinys yet." SPECIAL NOTICES.
TUe BwypiiMllUai «f tke Uver.t Thfe liver-lias a very Important part to per form in the animal economy. Its function it two-fold. The fluid which it secretes tempers the blood and regulates the bowels, and upon the quantity and quality of the secretion dc' pends, in a great degree, tho adaptation of the blood to tho requirements of the system and the due removal of the refuse matter which remains in the intestines after tho work of digestion has been accomplished.
One of the principal uses of llostetter's Stomach Bitters is to tone and control this somewhat unruly organ. The antibilious pro perties of the preparation are scarcely sccon dary to its virtues as a stomachic. Its operation upon the liver is not violent like that of mereury, but gradual and gentle. Instead of creating a sudden tumult in that sensitive
ders, while mercury, being a tremendous excitant, is not. The more naturally and quietly a diseased organ oan be restored to its normal condition tne better, and it is the peculiar property of this harmless vegetable alterative to reinforce and regulate without exciting or convulsing.
The success which has attended its use as a remedy for affections of the liver is proverbial. Persons of a bilious habit who take it habitually as a protection against the attacks to which they are constitutionally liable, pronounce it the best liver tonic in existence. The symptoms of an approaching fit of biliousness can hardly be mistaken. A pain in tho right side or under the shoulder blades, a saffron tinge in the whites of the eyes, sick headache, a feeling of drowsiness, low spirits loss of appetite, constipation and general debility are among the usual indications of a morbid condition of thfi liver, and as soon as I they appear the Bitten should be resorted to I in order to ward off more serious consequen ces. dwlw

OF CHILDREN DIE ANNU
ALLY OP CROUP. Now, Mothers, if you would spend 50 conts, and always have a bottle of Dr. Tobias' Venetian Linement in the house, you nover need fear losing your little one when attacked with this complaint. It is now 22 years, since I have put up niy Liniment, and never heard of a child dying of Croup when my Liniment was used but hundreds of cures nave been reported to me, and many state if it was $10 per bottle they would not be without it. Besides which, it is a certain cure for Cuts, Bums, Headache, Toothache, Sore Throat, Swellings, Mumps, Colic, Diarrhoea Dysentery, Spasm, Old Sores and Pains in the Limbs, Back, and Chest. No one once tries it who is ever without it.— It is warranted perfectly safe to take internally. BRANDRETH'S PILLS. Their great value consists in this: They may bo used so long as any disease affects any of the organs of the body and by thu persevering in their use the disease will be cured, and the body restored to health, free from every taint and impurity. Thoir reputation proves their merit,
Thomas Smith, Coroner and Justice of the Peace, Hastings-on-the-Hudson, says Brandreth's Pills cured him of Dyspepsia and Heartburn when every other medicine had failed to relievo him. Certificate dated April I 2,1868.
Dr. Turnertjof Savannah, Ga., says he has, for nearly forty years, recommencd Brandreth's Pills as a specific in Yellow Fever that ho nover knew a patient to die who took them for this malady, being otherwise sound. Their prompt use takes out of the body those matters which feed the fatality of the disease.' As genoral family medicine ho considers them far in advance of all others, and here ho speaks from personal experience of their qualities. mar9-dwlm.
A RADICAL REVOLUTION Has been accomplished in hair dyes. Tho horrible compounds containing LEAD, SALT and SULPHUR are discarded. The leading, chemists implore .the public not to use them, and Professors Chilton, whose reputation is second to that of no analytical chemist in America, has recommended

Doctor Whittier publishes a Medical Pamphet relating to Venereal Diseases and the disastrous and varied consequences of selfabuse, that will be sent to any address in a sealed envelope for two stamps.
