FORREST.—Bills and posters are being sent to the neigWaofiiig tow'tis to secure delegations for the Forrest entertainments^ next week.

THE WEATHER was the general subject ot' comment yesterday. We should be pleased to say a word, bin like the old Batch farmer who saw the tail end of his wagon fall out while drawing a load of potatoes up a long, steep hill, we can't do tbe subject justice.

ASOTHEK Fifteenth Amendment "Writer —Jereremiah Anderson, of- Lost Creek township—handed in liis taxes to the County Treasurer yesterday, to the amount of $141.78. He is the owner of 649 acres of land in Lost Creek, tter Creek and Nevins townships. .1-1(1

POSTMASTER BCRXETT has given Harvey E. Moore, a very clever and capable young gentleman, a clerkship in the poslortice, the increa«iug business of that institution demanding more clerical force. Mr. Moore enters upon his duties thjs .. .vi'o-1" morning.

ARRESTED FOR (GAMBLING.—Officers Crowe and Yandeiver on yesterday made a descent upon William Kirtley's Dexter Saloon, and in an npper room arrested nine persons, who were taken before Mayor Cookerly charged with gambling. Three of the persons were put on trial last evening and acquitted. The' oiher .six will have a hearing this morning.

4£VKRY merchant who attempts to do business without advertising does himself an individual financial injury, for he virtually ignores the enterprising, wideawake spirit of the age, and says to the people, "I don't want your patronage."— The people haveJiecome so used to measuring a man's liberality and business en rerprise by the length of hi* newspaper advertisement, that they utterly repudiate th« individual who has not enough business "get up' to hang out his sign in the daily paper#*

APROPOS to the season, and the miserable condition of our pavements in many places, the following, which we clip from an exchange, is of local interest: '"Not long since in Albany, New ork, a man slipped on the ice in front of a 'wealthy man's premises, a»d sustained severe injuries. He sued for damages and recovered a verdict of $1,00®. The court held that the owners or occupants .t' a house are liable for damages sustained by ice allowed to remain on the sidewalks as if he permitted an opening to exist in his sidewalk unguarded."
