"DIED OP A FRYING-PAN" is the epitaph which a celebrated physician says appropriately belongs to the grave-yards of thousands of our American people, on account of the manner of preparing their food. The doctor says of the majority of Americans their standard food is a piece of bacon fried the fat taken and with flour or meal mixed into a heavy mass and consigned to the inevitable fryingpan, aftd out comes a leathery-looking something, which the stomach 6f an ostrich could not digest. Give them a chicken and what do they do with it? Cut it up, and into the frying-pan it'goes after being slowly simmered until hard, it is put into a dish and grease poured over it, and what is not soaked up iif*the chicken, is made way with by soaking their frying-pai*.bread in it.
Give them a rich jucy' steak, and into, the frying-pan it goes, and is slowly simmered until no knife will cut it, and then eaten with heavy bread soaked in the remaining a*}j~ tfeus good, irjiiA&mc food, in quantity sufficient to afl'ord .a wholesome mfeaUfcH k'whMk the frying-pan process r^ndj^red/^t, only barely enough for one man,' but convertedinto slow poison, "arid a fruitful spi^cc of disease.
