!I Anna Dickinson lectures at Greencastle to-morrow evening and an effort is being made to make up a party to go over to hear her. Half-fare tickets can be obtained if fifty people go. Names can be left at H. A. Davis & Co's drug store.
Greencastle has patronized us on several occasions, and it is but right and proper that v»e return the compliment. r, t:
SRTXMNQ School.—On the last Friday of this 'month, Trustee Naylor intends to have a grand spelling contest, the match to be composed of all the scholars attending the public schools outside of the city. The idea is a good one but just now the Trustee is bothered on the subject of getting a room sufficiently large to accommodate all the little aspirants after spelling honors. •,
Stevens has a taste for knowing all about what is going on in the busy^ world •~v outside the gloomy walls of his prison.—
Yesterday he sent to thia office for the Daily Journal as the best medium through which to obtain such information. There can't be much insanity where such discrimination exists!—Journal.
A more convincing proof of insanity ''could not be produced, were it not kno^rn that Stevens is a daUy reader of the Expkebs.

It has come to my ears repeatedlv that members of the Independent Club have accused me of having written an article in last Tuesday's Journal, signed A. P-, and some very unkind remarks were couple^ with, tha| accusation. I have borne in silence insults heapea upon me from that quarter. I can do so no longer. I have never giv& ftny 'of its members cause to warrant the course they are pursuing towards me. I did not write the article in question. Only one present at the Concert could have written it, and I was not there. I have heard some members of the Club, and othna, say, that the criticism was correct and just. I think the Club would do well to pay some attention to the hints thrown out by A. .P. He speaks truths that are ^applicable to almost every musical society. 1 don't believe the majority of the Club think themselves above criticism, nor do I believe malice or jealousy prompted A. P. to say what he did. AntoN Shide
