Nothing iu thu atrange Story that ha* me to «jot tem implicate* in any way whatever any »anoh or official connected rith Kriel drhis execution.

We not desire to excite the public 5nind by an incrcdible sensation, but we Igel bound, as chroniclers of public events, to-give to the people,. as it has come to us through several source*, this wonderful Istory.

Was, it Providence or Chance! One day last week, Mr. James Pitkin, of Manchester, Ct., had started to drive to Bolton, but was delayed on the way, until it was too late for him to reach Bolton in time for the object of his journey, and much vexed he turned back toward home. When near his house he saw two children running and screaming, and le&rned from them that there was an accident on a pond in the lot back of the road. He rail that way and saw an object in the pond rising and linking among the broken ice, which proved to be his own little boy—a lad of about ten years of age. The father reached out his whip, and the drowsing child grasped it, but was too far gone to hold on, liis grasp relaxed and he sunk again. Then tns father plunged in, crushing the ice, and wading up to his neck, when he just reached his boy as he was going under for the last time. Prompt remedies, and wrapping him in blankets, soaked in hot water, Drought him back to life.

Curiously Ont of Fashion.

From the Now York Tribune.) In these days of multitudinous divorce, weare relieved to hear of a singular character in New Jersey who never can be married often enough, although it is always to the same woman. Oncei a year, this perennial bridegroom sends for the parson and has the nuptial knot tied over again. 'He buys a fine new bridal dreep fov the wifp of his bosom, without regard to expense and and has a marriage table frunished forth for his friends. We can only account for this amiable eccentricity by supposing that the good man lives in perpetual ap-. irehension of being divorcea without mowing it, a fate which has, through kindness of the courts of law, overtaken more than one careless and unsuspicious Bpouse. If he errs, it is creditably on the side of precautions and we can but wish him "many happy returns of the day."

Republican County Convention At a meeting of the Vigo County Republican Executive Committee held at the office of Col. B. W. Thompson in this city on the 22d day of January, it was determined to hold amass convention at the new Court House in tills ci' Saturday at one o'clock

P. M.,

12th V^OF Febru

ary 1870, to select thirty-three delegates to Attend the Republican State Convention, to be held at Indianapolis on the 22d day of February next.

AH- citizens of the county who sustain the Administration of President Grant in its successful efforts to inaugurate economy and maintain untarnished our National credit and honor, as well as all persons in sympathy with the just, liberal progressive principles of the Republican party, are most cordially invited to attend and take part in the selection of delegates to the Convention'.

A HUMBUG.

HOW OFTEN we hear this expression from arsons reading advertisements of Patent ledicinos. and in nine cases out of ten they may be right. It is over 22 years since I introdfiodiDr. Tobias' Venetian Liniment to the rablic. I had no money to advertisr it, so I eft it for sale with a few druggists and storekeepers through a small section of. the country, many taking it with great reluctance: but I told them to let any one have it. and if it did not do all I stated in my pamphlet, no one need pay for it. In some stores two or three bottles were taken on trial by persons resent. I was by many, thought eraiy. and hat Would be the last they would see of me. But I knew my medicine was no humbug. In about two two mouths I began to receive orders for more Liniment, some calling it my valuable Liniment, who had refased to sign a receipt when I left itat their store. Now my sales are millions of bottles yearly, and all for cash. I warrant it superio* to any other medicine for the cure of Croup, Diarhcea, Dysentery, Colic, Vomiting, Spasms, nad Seasickness, as an internal remedy. It is perfectly innocent.to take internally—see oath aceach bottle—ond ex tern ally for ronio Aneumatism, Headache, Mumps, Frosted F.eet, Bruises, Sprains, Old Sores, Swellings, Sore Ihioat, Ac-Ac. __

The Three Remedies. "SOHMCA'S PCLMO-

STKWP" for the cure of Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, and every form of Consumption. The peculiar action -of this mediome ripens the ulcers in the lungs, promotes the disejuu-qe of the corrupt matter by expectoration. Purifies the blood, and thus cures Consumption, when every other remedy fails. "Schenck's Sea-WeedTomc" for the cure of Dyspepsia or Indigestion, and all diseases arising from debility:This tonic invigorates the digestive organs, supplies the place of the gastric juice when "that is deficient, and then enables the patient to digest the most nutritious food. It is a sovereign remedy for- all cases of indigestion. "Schenek Mandrake Pills, one of the most valuable medicines ever disoovered, being a vegetable'substitute for calomel, and having all the useful properties ascribed to that mineral, without producing any of its injurious.effects.

To these three medioines Dr. J. H. Schenek of Philadelphia, owes his unrivaled sucoess in the treatment of Pulmonic Consumption. The Pulmonic Syrup ripens the morbid matter, discharges it, and purifies the blood. The Mandrake Pills act upon the liver, remove all obstructions ^therefrom, give the organ a healthy tone, and oure Liver Complaint, which is one of thejaost prominent causes of Consumption.

The Sea Weed Tonic invigorates the powers of tfce stomach, and by strengthening the diction and bringing it to a normal and healr _hy condition improves the quality of the blood, by which means the formation of ulcers or tubereynl the lungs becomes impossible.

Il action of these medicines, as 'ed, will cure every ease of Conthe remedies are used in time of them is persevered in sufficienthe case to a favorable termination. ck's Almanac, containing a full the various forms of disease,, his treatment, and general directions
