giant, belonging to a species of the human family which probably inhabited this and other parte of the world at that time of which the Bible speaks, when it says, "And there were giants in those days." The helmet is said to be of the shape of those found among the ruins of Nineveh. The bones of the skeleton are remarkably white. The teeth are all in their places, and all of them are double, and of extraordinary size. These relics have been taken to Tionesta, where they are visited by large numbers of people daily. When his giantship was in the Hesli, he must have stood eighteen feet in his stockings. These remarkable relics will be forwarded to New York early next week. The joints of the skeleton are uow being glued together. Alleged Discovery of the Skeleton of a Ureat (Jiant In the Oil Regions "Giants in Olden Times. From the Oil City (Pa.) Times*u

On Tuesday morning last, while Mr. William Thompson, assisted by Robert R. Smith, was engaged in making an excavation near the house of the former, about half a mile north of West Hickory, prepreparatoryjto erecting a.derrick, they exhumed an enormous helmet of iron which ivas corroded with rust. Further digging brought to light a sword, which measured nine faet in length. Curiosity incited them to enlarge the hole, and after some little time they discovered the bones of two enormous feet. that eighteen hundred years ago the valno of medieinal plants was apprecsated. In the Old Testament botanical remedies are repeatedly recommended, but in no passage of sacred history is man recommended to swallow calomel, or blue pill,or any other mineral preparation. The sick were directed to eat herbs to strengthen them, to purify them, to heal them. In that day tho art of making vegetable extracts was unknown. The herba. medicines were mere infnsions.

The giant Galabra, brought from Arabia to Home, under Claudius Caesar, was ten feet high.

The giant Ferregus, slain by Orlando, nephew of Charlemagne, was twenty-eight feet high.

In 1814, near St. Germain, was found the tomb of the giant Isorant, who was not less than thirty feet high.

In 1850, near Rouen, was found a skeleton whose skull held a bushel of corn, dnd who was nineteen feet hign.

The giant Bacart was twenty two feet high his thigh bones were found in 1704 near the river Moderi.

In 1823, near the castle in Dauphine, a tomb was found thirty feet long, sixteen feet wide, and eight high, on which was cut in gray stone these words: "Kintolochus Rex." The skeleton was found entire, twenty-five and a quarter feet long, ten feet across the shoulders, and five feet from the breast bone to the back!

We have no doubt that "there were gi* nnts in those days," and the naAt was, perhaps, more prolific in producing them than the present. But the history of giants during the olden time was not more remarkable than that of dwarfs, several of whom were even smaller than theThumbs and Nutts of our own time.

The reports from Texas have finally been nearly enough official to ensure, without doubt, the election of General Davis as Governor, by 800|majority. The really importaut victory is in the Legislature, where, according to the latest statement we have seen, the'Bepublicans have 17 Senators to 12 Democrats, and 50 Representatives to 40. If this statement is correct, there can be no doubt that Texas will promptly ratify the Fifteenth Amendment,'and having complied with all requirements of Congress, claim her lace in the Union.

REPUTATION IS UNION-WIDE, ARE WORTH READING. Doctor Whittier publishes a Medlchl Pam§isastrons

het relating to venereal Diseases and tho and varied consequences of selfabuse, that will bo sent to any address in a sealed envelope for two stamps. It contains foil symptom lists that will enable those affected to determine tho nature of their complaint and give a written statement of their case that will answer almost as well for the purpose of treatment as a personal interview but where it is convenient the Doctor should be conaultod personally. Those having friends that may roquire advice, can supply them with this valuable work sending their address, with stamp. Thus vou can assist the unfortunates without their knowing their benefactor. Certainly no snh« ject is of more importance than purity of blood and perfect manhood.

It is self-evident that a physician who confines himself exclusively to the study of a certain class of diseases and treats thousands °f eases every' year, must acquiro greater skill in that specialty than only general practice. Many physicians, recognizing this fact, introduce patients to tho Doctor after reading his Medical Pamphlet. Communications confidential. A friendly talk will cost you nothing.
