W it pi as is What good would a temple be for a dozen Chinese with no money? My countrymen want all their people to come that can. It would be pleasanter for them, of course. They are generally satisfied with America and Americans. They treat them well, and thore is more money hero than in China. The Chinaman goes Where he makes most motley. The tieoJlle of the internal revenue do ndt act liberally with my coutitrytrieh. They charge tllfenl license fbes for retailing cigare in tli« street, arid if it is hot £aid their whole stdck is seized. They therefore losfe moriey ofteil. Tliey pay about fourteen dollar^ ft rilorith fgr. tlifese roohis (eight occupying [jjehi), and it costs each maii from three to four dollars per week to live. They Keep up the customs of China and do not ptsoejate witl,i any but themselves. They jre mostly married to Irisji women, -and arc domestic iri their tasted. They have have a good many children, who attetid the Five Points Mission-shoo Is.

Religious Controyersy

There are many ministers and good people who believe that debate and conloversies unondoctrinal points in religieon arc beneficial to the church, and are to be sought after. But we think the instances arc few and far between in which any good resulted from public discussion of sectarian views. Ilendfb wc regretted to observe the disposition to invoke discussion an 1 oi iiicism in connection with the revival mee:ings of this city. Where all churches and creeds a' invited and represented we know it is somewhat difficult to conduct the services so as to givo no offence. Ad* miuing it to ba true that the tongue bf a Univcrsalist minuter was paralyzed, or some other opponent left speechless for months, in answer to prayer, it was unwise to make the statement, and thus provoke contention and criticism. When the world is converted it will be by preaching Christ crucified. When the great love of God is preached to men and fails to enlist their h?arts, they may perhaps be induced to run, for awhile, the Christian course through fear of punishment but that church is poor, weak and Inefficient for Christianizing the world whose minister finds it necessary to holdup to the mthe terrors of eternal torment on each alternate week. We hope to sec the time when discussion and contentions shall cease among all churches—when Christian people will live ser mons of love and prcach Christ's gre\ter lovefor nil and then we shall behold churches filled, and witness a success of the Gospel which will a foreta'te of milleniennial glory.—Citt. Croniele.
