All this, wc admit, no argument to exculpate Mr. Beeclier, and we can think of no argument at all to extenuate the insane thanksgiving of Mr. Frothingliam, "for what these people had been to cachxrtherj" for tliore was at l^nst a color cofprpbabih-/ ty that tlicy had not been to each other exactly what they should have-been. Mr. Bccchcr's exculpation must rest upon the decision of the 'question. "'Were Mr. and Mrs. McFarland legally divorced?" If they were, Mr. Bcecher had aright to ^marry them, and raor.e than that, he did right to marry them. ',

TAKING IT COOLLY.

An Ohio Bricklayer Finds His Wife Under Peculiar Circumstances.

From the Kansas City Times.l In tlvc year 1865 there lived at Akron, ()., a young bricklayer )who had a wife. Thev lived together quite happily for a while, but of a sudden the husband disappeared and came out to the West. It is not recorded that he made any money. He did notSvrite to his wife from thg year 1802 to the year 18G9.

The husband driftep hither and thither. Working a.little here, he bent yonder having a good job to-day, to-morrow saSv him out of money and out of elbows. At last the tide—whether its ebb or Hood we know not—which had been bearing him as a waif since 1862, bought him safely to Kansas City. He sought for work and obtained it. In looking about for board, the man who employed him said "Come to' my house. J-f you liveas^ live, you are weltome."

v.

The bricklayer went washed his hands •on the back porch, entered the dining room and sat himself down by the Btov/e a few moments to warm. A woman entered, gazing as one facinated upon the bricklayer, approached him nervoulsly -and cried out: "My husband!"

1

"My wifel" was the 'philosophical answer, "but what do you ao here?" It was indeed their first meeting since 1S(2. Explanations followed. The husband was by no means hard" to appease. The wife, it appears, had followed his employer from her home in Ohio, was living with liini n-s his wife, arid for a consideration the rightful husband concluded not to disturb the existing relations. He still boards in the house—which is situated on the levee, near the Pacific Kailroad depot—and works for the man who still retains possession of his former .wife.

Marriage aud Divorce.

From the Indianapolis News.] The London Saturday Review, we are told by an European dispatch, has been discussing the Richaroson-McFarland case, and announces as the result that the death-bed marriage was "alsatian, grotesque, nauseous and blasphemous.' An opinion of the Review in any way affecting the United States, is worth nothing) It is edited like the Pall Mall Gazette, "by gentlemen," and there are few gentlemen of its classification in this country, because there are few idle men. Of course its aristocratic tastes are shocked at any occurrence here which is capable of being turned into a text for ada inflatory diatpbe. To n?en $S njgu'mlnt ijl sp iffcotifeLa* the -fash Mm," and any American whpihappens to be near enough to the Review to reach it with an early letter, should suggest that the whole history of profligacy can furnish no parrallel to the lives, and deaths, too, of scores of England's nobilitv. The Countess of Macclesfield made publication of her prostitution that she might obtain a divorce. She got it and married her •paramour, Earl Rivers. The fruit of her •crime was the poet Richard Savage whose vices and misfortunes make the most •melancholy chapter in literary history. She abandoned him to the careof a laundress, would not acknowledge or receive hitn, or allow him any means of support, Und when her guilty but not lieartlcs-shus-band died, she, kept him from making a bequest that would have been a competence to the wretched son. Within the memory of the Review writer, Lord Palmerston was involved in an intrigue with Lady Cowper, for which her husband, Earl Cowper, obtained a divorce. Palnierston married her, and she stood at the very pinnacle of English refined andvirUOUB society. A little further back Lord Holland, the nephew of Charles James Fox, formed a liaison with a married woman, caused a divorcc to be obtained, and married herr, styfc was thepresiding genius of Holland House, so long tbe ceture of literary society, the constant resortof RevSydney Smith, Sir James Mackintosh, Babington Mnculay, Fraincis Horner, Tom Mooro. and scores of men who?e names will be as imperishable as the language. But wc need not multiply instances. Divorce works no degradation among the nobility. It is only among men and women who live by labor of brain or body that it is demoralizing to marry after a legal abrogation of the marriage tie. An aristocrat seeiqs to djite, additional conpidei^ atiori from the oileh6e that' flnpelled the divorce, and the "alsatian, nauseous and blasphemous" proceeding of marrying a divorced person. The record of the Divorce Court, made so notorious by Sir Crcsswell, would silence anybody but an Englishman about divorces, till doomsday.

Mr. R. H. Klias has been advised by his Physician to discontinue the Jewelry business that he has been panning for so many years, on aeeount of ita being too eonnninf and injurious to his health. This Jewelry Store was established by Joseph Draper, in 1832. He was suoceedeaby H. P. Elias. in 1853. R. H. Elias, the present proprietor, has been engaged in the Jewelry Business Twelve Years. He can refer with just pride to all the Jewelers of Cincinnati, and most of the principal business houses with whom he has had the pleasure of doing business. They will all testify to his honesty and straightforwardness. Tho patrons can rest assured that the utmost fairness and honesty will be the greatest aim of Mr. Elias, so that all will share equally in the prises offered.

A REGULAR GRADUATE OF MEDICINE, as Diploma at ofiico will show, has been longer engaged in the treatment of Venereral Seyual and Privaoe Diseases than any other Physician in St. Louis.

Syphillis, Gonorrhea, Gleet. Striotnre, Orchitis, llernis and Rupture, all Uninary diseases, Syphilitio or Mercurial Affections of the Throat, Skin or Bones, are treated with unparalleled success.

Spermatorrhea, Sexual Debility and Impotency, as the result of self-abuse in youth, sexual excess in mature years or other causes, and which produce somo of the following effects, as Nocturnal Emissions, Blotches, Debility, Dixrinoss, Dimnes of sight. Confusion of Ideas, Dvil Forbodings, Aversion to Society of Females, Loss of Memory and Soxual Power, and rendering Marriago improper, are permanently cured.

The Doctor's opportunities in hospital and private practico aro unsurpassed in St. Louis or or any other city. Back files of St. Louispapers prove that ho has been located thero longer by years than any other so advertising. Tho establishment, library, labratory and appointments, are unrivalled in the West, unrivalled anywhere. Ago, with experience, can be relied upon, and tho Doctor can rofer to many physicians throughout the country. In past success and present posiion he stands without a competitor. THE WRITINGS OF A PHYSICIAN WHOSE

DEPUTATION IS UNION-WIDE, ARE WORTH READING. Doctor Whittier publishes a Medical Ppm-

Sisastrous

het relating to \enereal Diseases and tho and varied conscquences of selfabuse. that will bo sent to any address in a sealed envelope for two stamps. It contains full symptom lists that will enable those affected to determino the nature of their complaint and (rive a written statement of their case that will answer almost as well for the purposo of treatment as a jpersonal Inter'' view but where it is convenient tho Doctor should be consulted personally. Thoso. having friends that may require advice, can supply them with this valuablo work 7 sending their address, with stamp. Thns you can assist the unfortunates without their knowing their benefactor. Certainly no subjeot is of more importance than purity of blood and perfect manhood.

It is self-evident that a physician who confines himself exclusively to tho study of a certain class of diseases and treats thousands of cases every year, m-ust acquire greater skill in that specialty than only ftcneral practico. Many physicians, recognizing this fact, introduco patients to the Doctor after reading his Moaical Pamphlet. Communications confidential. A friendly talk will cost you nothing.
