BEECHER?,3 PLYMOUTH .J|L'IDAY,

Reporter's Photograph of a Scene— The Gathering at Plymouth Church —The "Audience"—Enter Great

Beecher.

From the New York Sun, December 6.] Mr. Beecher drew immeasely yesterday. The doors were opened atprccisely 10*A. M. The multidude then surged. They had been waiting in the rain under the shelter of umbrellas of widely different size*, colors, and qualities. The stockholders of the Plymouth institution at once took possession of their costly seats. The floating sinners of both sexes were shown to seats in the family circle. Others, males, unaccompanied by gentler companions, were directed to the highest tier, from which they had a birdseyc view of the rostrum.

Newspaper after newspaper, of hundreds which had been distributed in the pews, unfolded their leaves at the hands of the people. It wa-i the Rev. Mr./Til ton's il lustrated Weekly. While the people were admiring the pictures in Mr. lilton's hebdomadal, a supernumerary entered, wearing a neat velvet cap and this he wore during the whole performance. -Caps of this kind, worn as stated, are entirely fashionable in the temple on Brooklyn Heights. Several bald-headed gentlemen wore them yesterday, one of whom was among the choir. Jaunty jockev hats were almost exclusively worn by the young and middle-aged women. White predominated among the various colors the feathers in the saucy jockey hats. Of paradise feathers a few were displayed, and they were of enormoussize. Eye-glasses and gold-bowed spectacles were generally worn, and diamonds sparkled in evcry'part of the congregation.

The rostrum'was'embellished by a collection of llowcrs from the Plymouth Church conservatory. The lloral beauties were placed on. the rostrum to the left of a neat stationary walnut stand, on which Mr. Beecher keeps a hymn book and a 1'iliLe, and where he also places his note.-

The polite ushers were evidently puzzled in seating the hundreds who were pouring into the edifice. One ursher, who performed his duty with nn ease and grace unrivaled by any of the ushers at an Italian opera, wore an elegant suit of broadcloth and a magnificent scarlet neck tie. The bow was faultless. Ten-thirty arrived, and the edifice was almost jamed.

EtfTKIt THE CiRBAT BEECHER. & i~ Mr. Beecher entered. lie saw a host of reporters clustered abound the rostrum. Their anxious upturned faces plainly foretold something unusual. Ellenwood was, as usual, at his table, prepared to phonograph his discourse. Several ladies were seated near the rostrum, among whom was Mrs. Theodore Tillon. She wore an elegant walking-suit. Two sisters, attired in black silk and velvet, with pink bows and costly lace collars, held together in their proper places by small diamond pins, were noticeable. Prof. Stowe had a seat near the great organ.

Mr. Bpechcr first glanced all about the auditorium. lie then took up a note which had been placed on his table. When he opened the note a green ticket dropped out, which ho promptly picked up, putting it into his pocket. The choir rose. Then followed a chant, ".villi solos and chdruses, and it must in common honesty be confessed that no better music was ever rendered by our best Italian companies*

OF the appointment of THOMAS Drvmmond, Judge of the District Court of the United States for the Northern District of Illinois, as Circuit Judge for the Seventh Circuit, composed of the States of Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, the Indianapolis Journal says:

The members of the bar of this Statfe are prepared to give him the cordial welcome that his talents, learning and spotless purity of character entitle him to rccieve. As a matter of State pride, it would have been pleasant to us to chronicle the success of some one of the distinguished lawyers of Indiana who were applicants for this place of honor, but it must be remembered that while the influence of Illinois and Wisconsin was solidly given to a single candidate, the suffrages of Indiana were divided. It has been very plausibly urged that inasmuch as the former Circuit judge was appointed from Illinois it would have been a graceful tiling to recognize the right of Indiana to control this appointment.

However, tlie equal claims of Wisconsin can not be overlooked, and, indeed, suoh is the weight of the business in Chicago and Milwaukee tliat the new Judge, from whatever State selected, would soon have discovered that he must' make his restdenoe in one of those oitios or consent to live half tho y«ar wparatad from hit family.

One of the best things that has lately been written about the "Woman Question" is the humorous contribution signed "Jane Strongitliarm," in the Galaxy for December. It would, perhaps, attract more attention were it known that the authot is Bayard Taylor, which we happen to know is the fact.

Daniel Webster, a few days before his death, in 1852, appointed Edward Everett, Prof. Felto, George Ticknor and G. T. Curtis as his literary executtors. A SINGULAR EPIDEMIC, known to the technical as "famine fever," is now raging in the city of London, and spreading rapidly in spite of all efforts on the part of the sanitary officers to check its progress. Keep the Circulation Active. A free and regular circulation of the blood is esenlial to health. It places the whole system in a state of active defense against all unwholesome influences, and is an cspecial safeguard against the inimical effect the sudden changes of temperature, and of damp and cold.

I f/J Consumption. ThcTOroe Remedies*. *SefiiB*0!t'S PULMONIC SYRUP" for tho euro of Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, an^l every form of Consumption. The peculiar action of this medicine ripens tho ulcers in the lungs, promotes the discharge of tho corrupt matter by expectoration. Purifies the blood, and thus cures Consumption, when every other remedy fails. "Sehcnck's Sea-Weed Tonic" for tho cure of Dyspepsia or Indigestion, and all diseases arising from debility. Tins tonic invigorates the digestivo organs, supplies the placo of the gastric juice when that is deficient, and then enables tho patient to digest the most nutritious food. It is a sovereign remedy for all cases of indigestion. "Sehcnck's Mandrake Pills, one of the most valuable medicines ever discovered, being a vegotablo substitute for calomel, and having all tho useful properties ascribed to that mineral, without producing any of its injurious effects.

To theso three medicines Dr. J. H. bchcnck of Philadelphia, owes his unrivaled success in the treatment of Pulmonic Consumption. Tho Pulmonic Syrup ripens the morbid matter, discharges it, and purifies the blood. The Mandrake Pills act upon the liver, remove all obstructions therefrom, give the organ a healthy tone, and cure Liver Complaint, which is one of the most prominent causcs of Consumption.

The Sea Weed Tonic invigorates tho powers of the stomach, and by strengthening the digestion and bringing it to a normal and healthy condition improves the quality of the blood, by which means tho formatisn of ulcers or tuborclos in tho lungs becomes impossible. The combined action of these mcdicincs, as thus explained, will cure every case of Consumption, if tho remedies are used in time and the use of them is persevered in sufficiently to bring the case to a favorable termination.

Dr. Schcnck's Almftnac, containing a full treatise on the various forms of disease, his mode of treatment, and general directions how to use his mcdicincs, can.be had gratis or sent by mail by addressing hi? Principal Office No. 15 N. Sixth street, Philadelphia,Pa.

If proper attention were paid to this important fact, there would not only be a great decrease in tho number of cases of stomach, bowel nnd renal complaints, but also in the number of deaths by consumption and othor pulmonary diseases.

At this period of the year, when the dividing line whioh separates a genial from an inclement season which has just been passed, a course of IIOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS will bo. found invaluable service in improving the condition of tho vital fluid and gently stimulating its flow. Violent cough? and colds, like intermittent fever, are tho frequent effucts of a chilly atmosphere upon a debilitated organization. Diseases of tho kidneys often proceed from the same source. IIow essential it is, therefore, for persons of feeble constitutions, to invigorate the vital organisation at the commencement of Winter. Fortified by warm clothing without, and IIOSTETTER'S BITTERS within, tho frail and delicate may brave with impunity an amount of cxposuro and hardship which, under other circumstances, would prostrate them on abed of sickness. The Doctor's opportunities in hospital and private practice are unsurpassed in St. Louis or or any other city. Back files of St. Louis apers prove that he lias been located there ongrerbyyears than any other so advertising. The establishment, library, labratory and appointments, are unrivalled in the West, unrivalled anywhere. V. REPUTATION IS UNION-WIDE, ARE WORTH READING. Doctor Whi/ttier publishes a Medical Pamphet relating to Venereal Diseases and the disastrous and varied consequences of selfabuse^ that will _be sent to any address in a contains af-

plaint and give a written statement of their caso that will answer almost as well for the purpose of treatment as a personal interview but where it is convenient the Doctor should be consulted personally. Thoso having friends that may require advice, oan supply them with this valuable work sending their address, with stamp. Thus you can assist the unfortunates without their knowing their benefactor. Certainly no sub iect is of more importanco than purity of blood and perfect manhood.

It is self-evident that a physician who confines himself exclusively to the study of a certain class of diseascsand treats thousands of. cases every year, must acquire greater skill in that specialty than only general practice.
