FLOEA fEMPLE AND HER COLTS.

Visit to the HamWetonian stock Farm —The Little Ladj Temple—How Flora Flourishes in a Green Old

Age— Lady Thorite. From tho Philadelphia Morning Post.] A Welch, Esq., is well known as the owner of Flora Teittt)To, tjje queen of the present day. Mr. Welch indulges tTift belief that the Ilambletonian stock produces the speediest and the best bottomed liorsej. As to this matter, any turfman can decide for himself by reflecting and gathering in his own mind the name of those animals who have made their mark on the Americanjturf. Mr.

Welch's plaeetf hir A

is styled the II .mbletonian 8tock Farm is situated on the Limekiln road at C'hc.-t-ttet Hill, xaboiif! eleven miles, from the teity. It contain^ about 250 aci-es, and is so elevated that one can look down upon the beautiful scenery of the surrounding "country for miles without any obstruction interfering with the prospect. The buildings, which will accommodate about one hundred horses are separated from each other by good-sized yards. After spending a few minutes in descanting upon the qualities of the thrcte and four years olds, which located in the first stable, Mr. Welch directed Ilughy, the stableman, to produce the stallions Jlysdyk and William Welch. In a second the door of a box stall was opened, and in another appeared llysdvk, a four year old. He is a bay, got by Kysdyk's llamiltonian dam Lady Duke, by Lexington grandam Magdalene, by Medoc, out of Kelph's dam, by Sunipter, &c. This is a very handsome bay, fifteen two, with both hind feet white. In all points he is good, and, nho\vs such qnalitiex are as to be expected fcogi hislboigo' gh-bred dam, with the Messenger cross through his grandam, by Medoc. His actioh shows the trotting step of the family of his sire, and although lie has been handled but little, his way of going is altogether satisfactory. His first progeny is the yearling bay filly Lady Temple, of which we will speak hereafter. He is also sire of colts owned by President Grant. Then William Welch, another four-year old, was brought out. He, likeltysdyk, is a bay, got by Kysdyk's Hambletoniaw, dam Susan, by imported Trustee, iird grandam said to be of Mambrino blood. This Trustee marc was bred by Mr. Van Wycke, of New Jersey. He is 0, darker and richer bay than llyedyk, without white, except the heels of his hind feet. He is about fifteen-three, and has more of the Haniblctonian look than his v*l. "y 5lis pedigrpe is aiot so good-j, not" withstanding the Trustee: blood is?V C*-: tremely desirable, but he may boat Ryklyk on the course. While William was being *n.uved around by Mr. Woodruff, Ilughy gave a peculiar shrill Whistle and in a short time we recognized Mora Temple omming up the lane, followccby two colts. The nameFloraTctnpIc has become a household word, and throughout the land her perforformances and merits are discussed. Her extraordinary speed has astonished the World, but her wonderful feat iu Kalamar 5Ko was not a .aritjjitcr is|onisJnuent than is her youthful, \igororls appearance to •day. She is now twenty-four years old'and has done a good part by colts following her, but there is scarcely an indication of approaching age, except it be in the sinking- of the back. Her great, fine eye in unriimttreil,-' kfid her clean bony/ expressive head "still shows the indomitable courage which carried her to so manv triumph^ The interest which centered around her performances is now transferred to her maternal relations, and to her condition in her green old age. With all the-hard campaigning she is fat and hearty, and really looks younger •and more vigorous than any animal of her age (no difierence what their lives may have been) that we have seen. Her oldest colt is known-as. Lady Temple. She is eighteen months old, and was sired by Rvsdjk. She is all bay without marks. Her color is a lighter shade, and she will be two sizes larger than her dam. In the head, eye ana ear the resemblance is. Very close, but her body is longer and more like a race-horse. Her muzzle is particularly fine, and her hind leg, according to all'-trotting ideas, is an improvement. She will not be trained till she matures, sind she has a good show then to add fresh laurels to tlio.-e she inherits. Some idea may be formed of what she is expected to do when we state that her owner recently received an offer of $5,250 for her from a Chicago gentleman. The younger is a bay colt of six months old, sired by William Welch, and is known as the Prince-Imperial. This is a very taking colt and is more like his dam than his sister in blood. The head, eye and ear are true copies of the dam. Indeed, so \r as a judgement can be formed and comparison made between a weaning suid.a mature horse, the resemblance is complete in every particular. The star in the old mare's forehead is long and narrow, while that in the colt'S is round. The white hair in he flanks and the rows of it across the root of the tail are precisely the same as on the dam. Ilis gait is very similar to that of Flora. The next feature—and just now the most important one—on the place was Lady Thorn, who has been brought here for wintering. Her name is fa Williar to every one, and it would be useless to say anything of licr rc cord. She was a little lame, and for that reason was taken from tho track a little erlier this season Than usual. Notwithstanding that she was lame, her owners were particularly desirous of accepting the first offer of Mr. Bonner, to purchase any horse who would trot a mile to a read wagon in 2:21$, the time made by Dexter, and why the feat was not tried is known to all turfmen. This animal was bred in Kentucky, and was purchased for £2,500 by Mr. I\elf in 1S62. In the previous spring she had been offered to auothcr Philadelphia gentleman for $1,500, but he refused her, being blind of an eye, and being represented to him as vicious. The remainder of Mr. Welch's stock, about seventy-five in number, is composed of thoroughbred mares and colts.

For the pa*t three years a Commission, consisting of the Hon. CalebGushingand Judges Johnsonand James, of Ohio have been engaged in codifying the laws of the United States—constitutional, curialistic and statutory—at a salarv of §5,000 per annum. A recent report shows that Judge Jameshasbeen doing all the work, and he will be able to make a report at the coming session of Congress, ahowinsr the progress of the Commission. All of the laws have been condified up to the beginning of the Fortieth Cogress. The report will till about twenty volumes, imperial octavo.— Ltd. Journal.

ordinarily successful in the cure of diseases of the Pulmonary organs, or what is usually termed Consumption.

I am fully aware that there are many persons whose prejudices rule them so completely that "proofs strong as Holy Writ" would fail te convinoe them of the efficiency of my remedies and that there are others who, under no circumstances, could be prevailed upon to admit their merits, simply because such an admission would prove detrimental to theif particular personal interest.

Fortunately for the welfare Of mankind, these doubting pebm'e form a comparatively small p'drti^n of the community at largo. They arc to bo found here and there,.but, combar»u with tho groat maps of the world's population, their numbers are so small that I dismiss 4neni, and address myself to those who are willing to listen to tho dictates of reason, and who are disposed to admit the strong logic of well-established facts.

Ait ounce Of solid fact is worth a pound of theory. Let me, therefore, present the facts connected with my own individual experi ence. Many years ago I was a, confirmed consumptive, and,^ liko thousands of dthei1 unfortunates, was given Up to die. Eminent physicians pronounced my case a hopeless one* A lid told mo that if I had any preparations to make for the final solemn event, that I had better make them speedily. I believed this just as confidently as did the persons who thus affectionately informed me that my days were numbered and that my recovery was impossible. Still, the dosire to live lingered in my bosom. I was young, and clung to life with the samo tenacity that young men and old men too, ordinarily do. I did not feel willing to abandon hope as long as a single vestage of it remained. I had full faith in the sad information convoyed to me by my physicians, but still there was a lingering belief that something could bq done, though I knew not in what direction to eesk for the much desired relief

It Was at this gloomy and eventful period of my history that I first learned of the roots and herbs from which my remedies for this dreaded disease are now prepared. I procured and used them and, to the utter amazement of all—physicians, friends and neighbors—began to improve. My entire system commenced to undergo a complete renovation. Expectoration, which formerly had been difficult and painful, now became comparatively ca^y. 1 throw oft'daily large quan» tities of offensive yellow liiiUtur. At the same time my loug-lost appetite returned. late freely of sucli food as was palatable te me, and which was at the same time, nutritious and wholesome: Expectoration became less copious and less offensive exhausting night sweats censed the racking and harassing cough abatce tho ferer broke the pain departed flesh planted itself on my sadly wasted frame, and with flesh came slid full health From a mere skeleton I becamo a stout, strong, robust man, and I have maintained both strength and flesh to this day. I weigh two hundred and thirty-five poundsj lam blest with art Appetite vouchsafed to but few men, while my digestive organs are amply equal to all the requirements of a healthful condition of my system.

Now, be itremembered, all these wonderful changes were wrought by tho use of the medicine?? I prepare—Mandrake Pills. Seaweed Tonic and Pulmonic Syrup. A cure, eeeminply so miraculous, naturally created astonishment in the minds of those who knew me. I was literally besieged on all sides. I had visitors daily who besought me to give thorn the remedies which had wrought the wonderful restoration ana had wrested mo from the very jaws of death Letters were received by scores, importuning mo to impart tho secret and inform the writers where the specifics for consumption could be obtained. Others, who were too weak to travel, not satisfied with writing, sent for and consulted me in regard to their cases. To all these applications I responded as I was able.

I had fully regained my health, and gratitude for the happy result prompted me to turn my attention to the science of medicine, with the hope of thereby being able to be ot scrvico to my suffering fellow-creatures. I devoted myself closely to my studio., and more especially to thnt branch of them relating to the terrible disease from which I had suffered so long and so much. I investigated it in all its fearful phases, in order to assure myself that my case was not an exceptional one. The closer my investigations the more satisfactory were my!conclusions. I felt convinced that tens of thousands of my fellowereaturcs were not ns desperate and apparently hopeless as mine had bocn, and I argued from this that remedies which had proven so effective with me would prove equally so with others. I prepared my medicine* in a pleasant and attractive form, and announced them to the world. The results are well known. Thousands of suffering inen, women and children, who were on their way to the grave, havo been cured, and are to-day living evidences of the fact that

cured

Consumption can be

and I think I may say, without arrogating to myself any more than is justly my due, that I have had as much experience in the treatment of consumption as any other person in the country, and that my success has been wonderfully great.

Let the reader remember that teese are not mere fancied statements. They are positive, living facts, of which I aui the living evidence, There is an old adage wnich says, "What has been done may bc|done. I have been completely cured of Consumption by the remedies I now offer to the public. Thousands of others have testified to simi%r happy results from their use, and thousands of vthers still might be benefited as I have been, could they but bo prevailed upon to try the virtue of

DR. WHITTIER,

A REGULAR GRADUATE OF MEDICINE, as Diploma at office will show, has been longer engaged in tho treatment of Vencreral Seyual and Privaec Diseases than any other Physician in St. Louis.

Syphillis, Gonorrhea, Gleet, Stricture, Orchitis, Hcrnis and Rupture, all Uninary diseases, Syphilitic or Mercurial Affections of tho Throat, Skin or Bones, are treated with unparalleled success.

Spermatorrhea, Sexual Debility and Impotency, as the result of self-abuse in youth, sexual excess in mature years or other causes, and which produce some of tho following effects, as Nocturnal Emissions, Blotches. Debility, Dizziness, Dimnes of sight. Confusion of Ideas, Dvil Forbodings, Aversion to Society of Females, Loss of Memory and Sexual Power, and rendering Marriage improper, are permanently curcd.

The Doctor's opportunities in hospital and private practice are unsurpassed in St. Louis or or any other city. «Back files of St. Louis papers prove that be has been located there longer by years than any other so advertising. The establishment, library, labratory and appointments, aro unrivalled in tho West, unrivalled anywhere. Age. with experience! can be relied upon, and the Doctor can refer to many physicians throughout the country. In past success and present position he stands without a competitor. THE WRITINGS OF A PHYSICIAN WHOSE

It is self-evident that a physician who cosfines himself exclusively to tho study of a certain class of disoases and treats thousands of cases every year, must acquire greater skill in that specialty than only general practice.
