IMPOSING WEDDING.
Jttarriage of a Daughter of Bishop Simpson—(Jen. Grant and Lady in Attendance Other Distinguished Guests—The Ceremony.
From the Philadclpeia Post Oct. 28.] Notwithstanding the number of fashionable marriages that take place in Philadelphia, but few reach the notice of the public. We understood that it was intended that this occasion should also be kept quiet, but then that was impossible, as two weeks since it wasjannounced that President Grant would visit this city, and as a matter of course everybody wanted to know the object of his coming. In this way the secret was let out that he, with liis wife, was to attend the marriage of Miss Anna Simpson, a daughter of Bishop Simpson, to a young gentleman of this city, J. Riley Weaver by name.
THE CURIOSITY OF TIIE LADIES. As usual, the ladies greatly exceeded the gentlemen in point of numbers, and it was curious to note how persistent they were in their efforts to'get into the build ing, and, finding that impossible, they wanted only to get within the iron railing surrounding the church but the policemen were inexorable, and they were compelled to turn and be jostled about until one would think the life had been forced out of them.
THE CROWDS OUTSIDE TIIE CHURCH. Although the ceremony was announced to come off at 8 o'clock, crowds of people began assembling in the vicinity at as early an hour as (3 o'clock, so that by the former hour at least 2,000 people had collected. Many a lady who had spent several hours in arranging her toilet found that all her labor to make herself look "killing" had been spent in vain. However, the holders of the 800 tickets which had hem issued succeeded in getting in, and by the time they were all seated the auditorium was well filled, though not at aU mnvded.
THE DOORS TPROWN OPEN.
The doors were thrown open about halfpast 7 o'clock, and when once inside the visitor was taken in charge by one of the six ushers, who were in full dress, white kids, sprig in buttonhole, and politely shown a seat. The greatest order was observed during the process, and 'the rustling of the trailed silk dNess was distinctly audible in all parts of the house.
THE DISTINGUISHED GUESTS. Just a few moments prior to 8 o'clock Mayor Fox and lady entered by meaus of the rear door, and took possession of one of the front pews, which had been reserved for the family and special guests. Shortly after Gen. Eagan, in full uniform, and lady, were shown to a seat. He was followed by Gen. Moorehead and lady. Among the clergymen present we noticed Bev. W. J. Stephenson, Kev. Alfred Cookman, Rev. Dr. Newman, of Washington, D. C. Rev. Dr. Durbin, of New York Rev. Dr. Nesbitt, of Pittsburg Rev. Messrs. Gray, Torrancc and Castle, of this city.
TIIE ENTRANCE OF GENERAL GRANT. After all had been comfortably seated, Clias. II. Jarvis took his place at the organ and soon pealed forth some delightful strains of music, in the midst of which there was a considerable flutter among the audience. The excitement was occasioned by the entrance of President Grant and lady. The curious had been disappointed, as the Presidential party, consisting of Himself, lady, General Dent and Senator A. G. Cattell, had surprised everybody, in asmuch as they came into the .auditorium from the rear of the chancel, and only those who occupied front seats were given the opportunity of seeing the President aiul lus wife. The General and Senator Cat tell were in full dress General Dent was in uniform, and Mrs. Grant was neatly attired in a blue silk dress, black lace mantle, and a handsome white bonnet.
THE AUDIENCE WAITING.
The audience had been waiting impatiently for over half an hour, when the organ began playing Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." This was the signal that the bridal party had arrived, and everybody was on the quivire.
ENTER THE BRIDAL TARTY. The doors of the centre aisle were closed, and as the l:ist notes of the march were dying away they, were thrown open and the party began marching up the aisle. First came the bridesmaids and groomsmen—Miss Ella Simpson and Mr. J. C. Lucas, Miss Amelia Verner and Mr. Adams, Miss Ella Pusey and Mr. Smith, Miss Belle Morrison and Mr. Greene, Miss Carrie Weaver and Mr. Pat ton—followed by Mrs. Bishop. Simpson leaning on the arm of the groom, and Bishop Simpson, who had in charge the bride. The latter wore white silk and point lace. The dress was made with an excedingly long yet graceful train. Of course there was the usual bridal veil which completely hid the face of the wearer from view. The bridesmaids were similarly attired. Mrs. Bishop Simpson wore a steel-colored silk, and her hair was trimmed with a becoming spray of flowers.
THE CHANCEL.
The chancel had been appropriately decorated for the occasion. In the centre there was no adornment, while at either end were placed rustic arbors in which rested bird cages and vases filled with fish. During the half hour in which the people were kept waiting, Bishop Janes paced the chancel from one end to the other.
IN FRONT OF THE CHANCEL. As the bridal party reached the front pews they filed in front of the chancel, when the bride left the arm of her father and took her position alongside of the groom.
THE CEREMONY.
Shortly thereafter Bishop Janes advanced toward the couple and began the beautiful and solemn ceremony, which is very similar to that used in the Episcopal Church. The respones of both the groom and bride could be heaad distinctly all over the church. After the benediction the party filled out of the cluicrch, and, having entered the carriage, proceeded to the residence of Bishop Simpson, No. 1.007 Mount Vernon street, where the reception took place, continuing from nine o'clock to eleven. President Grant and lady were among the callers.
THE PRESENTS,
Which were displayed in an upper room, comprised over one hundred articles, of which silverware was the principal feature. There were also several checlcs, one of which was for $500.
THE Israelite tenders a cordial welcome to Pater Hyacinthe upon American soil, and announces to him the sympathy and high regard of the American Israelites, who have been fully informed, not only of the Pater's liberal and humane doctrines, his fervent advocacy of progressive ideas and broad principles, but also of his lofty appreciation of Judaism—its literature and its steadfast votaries.
Senator Thayer is evidently not on the favored list of the Washington correspondents. They criticise his communicativeness in regard to his interviews with President Grant. Usually, this is not regarded by them as a heinous offense. What is fne matter?

THE CIYIL WAB IN SPAIN.
Terrific Fighting in the Streets of Saragossa.
Pro die Eco de Aragon.]« The Captain-general having ordered the reorganization of the citizen militia, much agitation was noticeable in the population which was increased by the entrance into the city of forty or fifty prisoners belonging to the rebel parties of Pedrola and Gallur, in custody of the Civil Guard. At half-past two in the afternoon, barricades were erected, and the insurgents opened fire, which has lasted to the first\ hours of this morning, in the barrios of San Pablo, in which the people fired from the streets which met at the market, and from the Tower of San Pablo, which they occupied very early in the afternoon. The fighting has been prolonged mose in the parishes of San Miguel and LaJMagdalena, in which it commenced at the same time as in'San Pablo, and lasted all.the night with great intensity uj) to 10 o'clock this morning, at which hour it ceased, the people, as we are told, retiring by the port near the Tower ofj.Bruil, from which point they crossed the Ebro on pontoons.
We cannot to-day give more details, but will try to do so to-morrow. Neither can we report the casualties, which, we believe, are very many, and which we deplore, for the blood shed is Spanish blood, aad the blood of Spanish Liberals. On both sides the combat has been carried on with the valor appropriate to Spaniards. At midday a battalion of Ingenieros arrived, and more forces are expected.
At 3:30 this afternoon alarm has been reproduced by some discharges made from the high part of the Corso, but at 6, the hour at which we close this number, they have completely ceased.
It was 11:20, and not 10 o'clock in the morning, that the barricades raised in the Plaza de San Miguel, Calles del Heroismo and Cadena, and Puerto del Deque de la Victoria were taken by the troops after a most protracted struggle, in which, both on one side and the other, great valor was exhibited. At 3:30 in the afternoon the Captain General, accompanied by some of his staff and a small escort, passed through the Plaza de Salamera, where some shots were fired at him by the people. This gave rise to a renewal of the combat for a quarter of an hour. The rest of the afternoon was passed tranquilly, and also the night.
The troops of the garrison were re-en-forced by two battalions of Ingenieros, one battalion ofCazadores, and a squadron of cavalry. In the first hours of the morning some prisoners were taken. Those taken during the combat exceeded 150. The accounts we have heard respecting the persons said to be at the head of the movement are so very contradictory that we decline for to-day making any allusion to them. -During the coifibat some paisanos from the neighboring populations "made for the city, but forces [of cavalry conveniently placed by Captain-general Bassols effectually impeded their entrance. The army had eighteen killed and seventy-five wounded. Of these, six are officers and two captains. Of the people, twenty-two killed and nine wounded, were picked up in the streets and carried to the Civil Hospital, among them some women and children, innocent victims of this struggle. This is without taking count of the unknown numbers of dead and wounded in private houses. During yesterday afternoon and this morning the people have passed and repassed through all the capital, visiting particularly the principal points in the struggle where Jche destruction was the greatest. The affair is ended, and the military tribunal will, begin its labor.

DR. SCHENCK'S
MANDRAKE PILLS,
for Diseas
es of tho liver, or to act as a General PurgaAll of these three Medicines are often rcquirtive. ed in curing Consumption, though the PulmoniaSyrup alone has curcd many desperate cases. Tho Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills assist in regulating the Stomach and Liver, and help the Pulmonic Syrup to dig at and search hrough the blood vessels, by which means a cure is soon effected.
These medicincs are concsientiously offered to the public as the only safe, certain and reliable remedies for Pulmonary Consumption and for all those morbid conditions of the body which lead to that fatal disease. Liver Complaint and dyspepsia are often forerunners of Consumption and when they manifes themselves they require the most prompt at tention.
Tho Pulmonic Syrup is a medicine which has had a long probation before the public Its value has been proved by thousand of cure it his made through a period of more than thirty-five years in all of which tiirtc its reputation has constantly increased and the most obstinate skepticism can no longer doubt that it is a remedy which may boused with confidence in all cases which admit of a cure.
If the patient will perseveringly follow the directions which accompany each bottle, he will certainly be curcd, if his lungs arc not too much wasted to make a cure possible. Even in eases supposed to be incurable, when friends and physicians have despaired, the use of this Medicine has saved tho life of the patient and restored him to perfect health.
Dr. Schenck does not say that all cases ol Pulmonary Consumption arc within the reach of medicine, but he emphatically asserts that often when patients have the most alarming symptoms such as a violent cough, creeping chills, night sweats and general debility, even to such a degree that they are obliged to lie in bed, and when they are given up by their physicians they may stiil be curcd. No medical troatnient can create new lungs, but when the lungs are very sadly diseased, and to som extent destroyed, a cure may beoffcctcdbyDr. Schenck's medicines.
Also in Scrofulous Diseases, these medicines are equally efficient. Dr. Schenck has photo graphs of a number of persons who have been nearly covered with running sores, and now all healed up. This shows its purifying properties, which must be done to heal cavities in the lungs.
In the treatment of Consumption it is of tho utmost importance to give vigor and a healthy tone to the system. Ilcnco it is necessary to strengthen tho appetite of the patient and improve the digestion. Proper nourishment is required together with such means as will make the food easily digestible. The articles most suitable for tho diet of Consumptive patients are designated in Dr. Schenck's Almanacs, which are distributed gratuitously. In general, tho most highly nutritious articles arc to be preferred, but the digestive organs must be strengbtcned in order to make either food or medicine serviceable. This requirement is met by the Seaweed Tonic, and for this purpose it was dcsigna3ed.
When the digestive powers arc put in good order the food has its proper effect, the system of tho patient is invigorated and the lungs begin to oxerciso thoir functions in a nominal and healthy manner. Then tho healing powers of the Pulmonic Syrup will complete the .are.
Pulmonary Consumption is almost always complicated with Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint. Schenck's Mandrake Pills intonded to remove obstruction from the liver and restore its healthy action. They have all the efficacy which is ascribed to calomel or "blue mass," and are warranted not to contain a particle of any mineral poison. These pills cure the mast obstinate costiveness, sick headache, piles, bilious affections and all otherdiseases which arise from a torpid or obstructed condition of the liver. One box of these pills \frill prove tho efficacy of the medicine.
In Consumption tho Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are invaluable auxiliary medicines. They relieve the sufferings of the patient and assisst tho Pulmonic Syrup in effecting a oure. They have been found useful in advanced stages of Consumption, when the lungs are almost entirely destroyed, and all symptoms according to the judgment of t5«e physicians, indicated speedy death. The lives of patients who were actually in a dying condition have been preserved for months by the use of Schenck's three great remedies.
Dr. Schenck's Almanac containing a full treatise on the various forms of disease, hi® mode of treatment, and general directions how to use his medicine can be had gratis, or sent bv mails by addressing his Principal Office N'o. 15 North Sixth street Philadelphia Pa.
Price of the Pulmonic Syrup and Seaweed Tonic each 81,50 per bottle, or $7,50 a half dozen. Mandrake Pills 25 cents per box.

HESE PILLS, SO celebrated many years in Paris, for the relief of female irregularities, and afterwards so notorious for their criminal employment in the practice of abortion, are now offered for sale for the firs} time in America. They have been kept in comparative obscurity, from the fact that the originator Dr. Velpean, is ajhyeician in Paris of great wealth and strict conscientious principles, and has withheld them from general use lest they should be employed for unlawful purposes. In overcoming female obstructions they seem to be truly omnipotent, bursting open the flood gates from whatever cause may have stopped them but they are offered to the public only for legitimate use, and all agents are forbidden to sell them when it is understood that the object is unlawful.
CAUTION.—Married Ladies should never take them when there is any reason to believe themselves pregnant, for they will*be sure to produce a miscarriage.

Malarious Fogs.
Countless millions of cubie feet of malarious vapor reek from the moist earth every twentyfour hours during the month of November. This evaporated moisture is the active principle which begets fever and ague, billious re mittents, indigestion, dysentery, billious chol ic, rheumatism, and many other ailments which prevail more generally in the Fall than at other seasons, and some of which in low swampy regions and new clearings, take the form of virulent epidemics. The best safeguard against these complaints, as evidenced by the experience of a long series of years, is HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS, the most pleasant and at the same time the most efficient of all vegetable tonics, The invigoration of the system is manifestly the best means of defending it against tho causes of sickness, whether constitutional or casual. Nature, as every pathologist knows, is the most determined enemy of disease, and the paroxsysms of an acute malady are in most instances the consequences of the efforts she makes to conquer the foe. The great object, therefore, of preventive treatment is to reinforce the system, and it is accolnplished thoroughly, rapidly and safely, by the use of HOSTETTER'S BITTERS. This powerful tonic contains also an aparient and corrective principle. It is no less valuable as a regulator and purifier than as an invigorant.'and there is no danger of exciting the brain or overstimulating tho circulation by employing it as an antidote. dwlw,

DR. WHITTIER, A REGULAR GRADUATE OF MEDICINE, as Diploma at office will show, has boon longer engaged in the treatment of Venereral Scyual and Privaee Diseases than any other Phvsician in St. Louis.
Sypbillis, Gonorrhea, Gleet, Stricture, Orchitis, Hornis and Rupturo, all Uninary diseases, Syphilitic or Mercurial Affections of the Throat, Skin or Bones, arc treated with unparalleled success.
Spermatorrhea, Sexual Debility and Impotency, as the result of self-abuse in youth, sexual excess in mature years or other causes, and whicb produce some of the following effects, as Nocturnal Emissions, Blotches, Debility, Dizxiness, Dimnes of sight, Confusion of Ideas, Dvil Forbodings, Aversion to Society of Females, Loss of Memory and Sexual Power, and rendering Marriage improper, are permanently curcd.
The Doctor's opportunities in hospital and private practice aro unsurpassed in St. Louis or or any other city. Back files of St. Louis
fonger
iapers prove that ho has been located there by years than any other so advertising. Tbc establishment, library. Iabratofy and appointments, are unrivalled in the West, unrivalled anywhere. Ago, with experience can bo relied upon, and the Doctor can refer to many physicians throughout tbe country. In past success and present position be stands without a competitor. THE WRITINGS OF A PHYSICIAN WHOSE
REPUTATION IS UNION-WIDE, ARE WORTH READING. Doctor Whittier publishes a Medical Pamphet relating to A enercal Diseases and the disastrous and varied consequences of selfabuse, that will bo sent to .any address in a scaled envelope for two stamps. It contains full symptom lista that will enable those affected to determine tho nature of their complaint and give a written statement of their case that will answer almost as well for the purpose of treatment as a personal interview: but where it is convenient the Doctor should be consulted personally. Those having friends that may roquire advice, can supply them with this valuable work by sending their address, with stamp. Thus you can assist the unfortunates without their knowing their benefactor. Certainly no subject is of more importance than purity of blood and pcrfcct manhood.
It is self-evident that a physician who confines himself exclusively to the study of a certain class of diseases and treats thonsands of cases every year, must acquire greater skill in that specialty than only, general practice. Many physicians, recognizing this fact, introduce patients to the Doctor after reading his Medical Pamphlet. Communications confidential. A friendly talk will cost you nothing. Office central, yet retired, No. 617 St. Charles street. St. Louis, Mo. Hours, 9 A. M., to 7 p. v., Sundays excepted.
