Accidbnt.—Yesterday
after
noon, at about fivo o'clock, Peter Jacobs, an employee of Messrs. Tuell, Eahman & McKeen, was fatally injured at the lumber yard of tbo above named firm by a piece of plank throwii from a rip-saw belonging to Messrs. Snapp & Haynes, roaster carpenters. The missile struck ibeunfoitunato man in the forehead, fracturing his skull in a fearful manner. DrHead was called and stated that the wound wa9 fatal and that the patient could not livobut a few honrs. Ho will, ia air probability, have died before this item can be seen by our city readeis. Mr. Jacobs has been for a long time in tho omploy of the proprietors of the lumberyard where the sad accident happened, and his borne a good namo among bis associates. He leaves a wifo and six chiliron who wero depondnnt upon him for their support.
The Normal School Board, at its meeting ye.?terday, transacted a considerable amount of unimportant business, but camo to no decision as to the Presidency and filled no vacancioa in tho Faculty. Somo discussion was had upon the merits of a Candidate tor President and measures were taken to ascertain his qualifications for the position. H^ is a gentleman who has not, we believe, had any experience in Normal School teaching or manage moot, and with all deference to the Board, wo venture to suggest that if that soit of material is to be used, we have plenty of it in Indiana, and need not import it from other Stales. But in our opinion a '.boroughly trained Normal School man ia requirod for the Presidency of this institution, and it can hardly bo a very difficult matter to secure the services of "ucli a man if proper inducements are offered aid a vigorous effort is made. Tho importance of inaugurating this &reat State educational enterpriza succe-sfully cannot ba over-climated.

Board.

Miss Julia Newell, of Wisconsin, Professor of Geography and IliHory. Miss Kuth Morn?, of Richmond, Ind., Principal of Primary Training Departraeut.
Those who havo been elocted and have decHnod serving are Hon Newton Bate.min, of UK, President, and Miss Olivia Meily, late of tho Terre II*iite High, School, Professir of English Language and Literature
Those two vacancies} are to be filled, and also tho position of Principal of tho Inlerrueliato Training Department.
The Board will meet »g*in nex^Fridav.
In rtKT.ATi'jN to the proposed appropri ation for the Danville road, the Evansvill
Journal
has the following:
It sennas that some of tho citizens of Terre Haute oppose tho subscription on ibfl ground that the managers of the road are making an unfavorable di?crimina fcion against Torre Haute in favor of Evansville. While we do not think there is any justice in tho charge, it ought to convince some of our fault Anders, who have insisted that the road was made to subservo tho purposes of prominent men in Terro Haute as against the interest of our business men, that there is no justice in their insinuations or charges. We think the truth is, the management has looked after the wolfaro of the road committed to their car* in prefercnco to any local interest.

thousand iollars, with avowed purpose of cutting off Indianapolis trade, totbeTerre Haute and Bloomtiold road. With no railroads into Greene county, its trade went to Terre Haute by wagon, as the nearest good market. The completion of the Indianapolis and Tincennes road to Worthington, has completely turned the tables, and the trade now all comes here. Terra Haute 13 not to blame for trying to get some of it back again but Indianapolis may learn a lesson from the exam* ploof tho Wabash city. Railroads are in course of construction in all parts of the Stato, which are designed to divert trade away from its legitimate center. Indianapolis must fight fire with Cre. More railroads into every section of the State, and tbo great advantage of a central point, Indianapolis can secure the bulk of tho trade of the State. But the work must be done now before other points have time to improve their advantages.—

During the whole existence of the Bank he was connicted with its directory, and was one of its chief advisers.
