Sankey, of New Castle
Pennsylvania, is in tho city for tho pur poae of superintending tho erection of tho Vigo Iron Company's works. Mr.
S.has
had much experience in tbe business, and is, wo have no doubt, "tho right man in the right placo.'' The Company's office is now being prected on iho grounds, and the grading for the main structure is being done. Mr. Crawford, President of the Company, is gentleman of the very highest order of business qualifications, and, under his general management, the groat enterprise will be vigorously prosecuted. Contracts for brick and much of the other material have already been made, and, should tho weather provo propitious, tbe buildings and, probably, the stock will be completed before winter.
Capt. C. C. Gknuno, engineer for the Evansvillo aDd Crawt'ordsville railroad, last week completed an inspection of all the bridges and culverts on tho Evansville and Cr/iwfordsville railroad its entire length, and returned to the city on Saturday nighi. We learn that the bridges and culverts are all in an excellent condition at iho present time, safo, and sound. It is a custom to have tbe bridges on this road iuspccted by a competent man #l least twice a year, and on the occasion of such visits of the inspector, all faulty timbers are ordered to be removed at once. This is one of the reasons that tho Evansville and Crawfordsville railroad has so few accidents. Another is that only caretul engineers and conductors aro employod. This will be pleasing intelligence to travelers in this day of railroad and steamboat accidents. To travel on a railroad without foar of being "dumped'' over Ibo bank, or of having tbe engine blow you into the middle of the next century, is a great comfort— Evunsville C.urter.

The young •man—whoso name we could not learn was taken sick At the Buntin House, last Sunday, wer.fc from there to Mr, Fenton's, where he was properly cared for. The laudanum was placed by his bedside to be given, as required, by the persons attending him, but it was discov ered during Tuesday night that he had taken it all nt one dose. Ho was insen sible until last evening, and was only saved from death—if indeed ha escapes at all—by tho most prompt, pors'stont and vigorous measures.
