UNION DEPOT.—It would a great convenience, and of incalculable bonefit to the city if tlio several railroads would build a union passenger depot fronting on Main streot. An excellent location would bo just west of tho T. H. & I. B. B. freight depot.

DIED.—At tho residence of his father, in Sugar Creek township, tin yesterday, Jacob Hoops, aged 2G yoars.

Tho deceased was a bravo and true soldier. He was a mcmbor of Co. Iv, 31st Indiana Volunteors, and boro an honorable pari, in all the service of that distinguished regiment. Ho was wounded at Ft. Donaldson, Sbiloh and Nashville.— Tho wound which ho received at the latter place was the remote cause of his death. He was highly osteemed by his officers and fellow soldiers, and his death will bo sincerely lamented by them and by jthecommunity in which he lived. •jjlia funoral will tako placo from the residence of bis parents at 3 o'clock v. lo-dny, with military honors, by a porlion of his surviving comrados in arms

TIIE PARTIES who propose to furnish the means and build the proposed Indiana & Illinois Central Bailway leading from Indi!in*poli3 to Decatur, aro Messrs. CHAMPLIN & LAZAR.Their proposition to take the road as itttands and complete and own it, tho company to turn over to thom tho roal 09tate, notes and all other assets it has, estimated at about $200,000, and the counties or citizens along tho line to raise a bonus of $700,000, in addition, to be paid them on completion of the road. 'Tiie counties through which tho road passes iri Illinois, it is understood, have arranged for their pro rata of the prop.sod bonus. It remains to bo soen whether Burke, Putnam, Hendricks and Marion, in this Stato, will likow^se do so, and sixty days aro given them in which to determine the quostion. As the mutter now stands, it does not promise a successful issue.

JOSEPIIUM COLLETT, Esq., of the E., T_ II. & D. Bailroad was in the city en Saturday. Ho assures us that if the City Council, of Torre Haute will vote the $100,000 asked for, the road from this placo to Danville, Illinois, will certainly boicompleted next year. In the meantime tho Chicago & Danville and the Evansvillo, Henderson & Nashville roads wiil undoubtodly be finished and equipped. Thus by tho first of January, 1871, tho ijrreat Chicago and Nashville thoroughfaro, the main line of travel and freightago betwoen tho lakes and tho gulf, may bo in operation.

On tbo other hand, the ccunties along the line of tho Vincennes, Paris & Danville Bailroad continue, in every instance wbero the question is submitted, to make tho heavy appropriations called for, and thero appears to be a determination to put the enterpnze through. Nothing but prompt action on the part of the friends of the T. H. & Danville road can check this flank movement that threatens so soriously to leave U3 "out in the cold."

THE STATE FAIR at Indianapolis this week, will no doubt be the most extensive exhibition of agriculture and mechanics that has ever been held in tho Stato. It occupies the ontire week, closing on Saturday. Passengers will be tnkon during tho week on the regular mail train, leaving Terro Haute at 6 50 A. M., and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday a special train will bo run, leaving Terro Hauto at 5.50 A. M., and arriving at Indianapolis at 10.10 A. M. Returning it will leave Indianapolis at 5.50 r. M., and arrive in this city at 9.50. Tickots will boon rale at all stations, which passengers must procure before taking the trains. All Stato Fair tickets must be stamped by the State Board of Agriculture, on the Fair Grounds, to bo good for raturn passago, otherwise full faro will bV chargod both wayp. Special tickets issuf.'ii by connecting roads will be good on all trains of the Terro Hauto & Indianapolin Biiiroad, during tho week of the Fair, if the return ticket stamped as above Stale Fair tickots will be good to roturri on the mail train, loaving Indianapolis at 1.45 P. M., and tho abovo spocial train only.

BKAL ESTATE TRANSFERS.—-The foltransfers of roal ostato were entorod upon tho Becordor's books during last week.

A DISPATCH from Greencafitle, states that on last Friday afternoon three hundred unpaid Irish laborers on the line of the Indianapolis & St. Louis Bailroad surrounded tho Jones House, where Mr. TRnney, one of tho contractors, was stopping, and amidst the wildest yelling and threatening, were about to force an entrance, when Gen. Morris, the President, addressed the mob, saying that he bad nojado arrangements to pay each man his ddes. At one timo it seemed as though violence would ensue, but the speech of

Gen. Morris had tho effect to disperse the .mob, and all becamo quiet.

WE

call tho attontion of our readers to tho real estate advertisement of F. Moreditb, Esq., in anothor column. He has more than Ion thousand acres of lands in Iowa, Illinois and Kansas, for salo or exchange for city property. Maps, showing the location of theso lands, quality &c., can bo seen at bis office during tho latter part of this week. The land ij im proved, timbered and prairio, and a great portion of it is convenient to railroads.— The immense emigration to theso States canses roal property to advanci continaliy and certainly investments in tuch property cannot be otherwise than profitable.
