DID you have tha "blues" yesterday?

A HECB8SITTricultural Fair.
GEORGE W. MORGAN, a Terre Haute boy, brother of Wm. Morgan, engineer on the Indianapolis road, has been unanimously nominated by the Republican party for the offise of County Treasurer at Pueblo, Colorado.
THE VENUE in the cases of the State vs, Matthias M. Brown and Wm. H. Brown indicted in Sullivan county for the murder of John Drake on the 12th ofSuly 1864 was, on yesterday, changed to Vigo county. The defendents were let to bail. The case3 will stand for trial at the next term of the Criminal Court, commencing on the first Monday of next month.
COUNTY FAIR.—Owiog to the rain which fell unceasingly yesterday, very little was done at the Fair Grounds. The prospect at nine o'clock last evening was that to-day would be clear, and if so the entries will begin in earnest. The programme is given elsewhere. We do not speak from authority, but presume the rule closing entries at twelve o'clock will not be strictly observed.
WM. M. MBKWIN, late clerk of the lat Home of Representatives was in the city yestorday. Ho will shortly go into the Collect sofllce with Qon.While. Mr Morwii will be remembered by some of our ciii zeni as many yoiri ago book-keeper for E. S. Wolfe, in thia city, and afterwards ass ciaud wilh Bob Livingston, on th commission business, on' tha wost side ol the square. Ho is a clever gentleman and possesses excellent business qualification*
MUSCLE.—Two bruisers, one employed at the nail works and the other on one of the railroads centering here, have entered into a written agreement to fight each other according to the rules of P. R. for $200 a Bide. The "mill'' is to come off within a few weeks at some point near this city. Vigilance on the part of the Sheriff and his subordinates may prevent this disgraceful encounter.
CRIMINAL COURT.—Three eases were disposed of.yesterday, as follows: Isaao Devee, who stole a horse and buggy from Mr. A. B. Fouts, some three weeks since, was sentenced to the penitentiary for a term of two years.
William Arnold, for stealing a pair of old boots from S. E Rode, was sentenced for one year.
Michael Hanley stole three quarts or whisky, for which the jury said he must go to jail ten days and pay a fine of ten dollars.
Erny was brought out of jail and asked if he was ready to go to trial. -He said he was, but on acoount of the absence of his counsel, Mr. Voorhees, he could not fix the time- He seems impatient for a trial and is not a little vexed at the dilatoriness of the gentlemen who have the case in hand. It is understood that the cue will come up next week.

IMPROVEMENTS in Terre Haute astonish former residents on their return after several years' absence.
VELOCIPEDE race at the Fair this afternoon at three o'clock. Wo learn that quite a number of entries will be made.
Now is THE TIME to tslay the weeds, if you don't want them to propagate and "increase an hundred fold" next season
COOL WEATHER has cloied the beer, gardens and materially reduced the basi neBs of the beer-saloon. Their harvest has passed and their summer ended.
WE learn on good authority, that if proper efforts are made the shops of the Ind. & St. Louis road can be transferred from Litchfield to this city.
MEMBEB8 of the press convention, and invited guests will dine at the Terre Haute House at 1 o'clock to-day. Immediately after dinner the convention will assemble in the Reepption Room of the Terre Haute House.

AGUES AND FEVERS are now prevailing in this vicinity to an extoht not known for many years, and we do the unfortunate sufferers a kindness in directing attention to the advertisement elsewhere of Nichol's Ague Tonic, manufactured by Barr. Gulick & Berry. We have therein
and
the certificate of a cure in the family of S „D»«Kis«h. Mr. E. Ohm, after four or five years suf-
ing with dumb chills and fever, and also a certificate of Mr. Frank Myers, who after a two years contest with fever and ague, and a trial of all other patent medicines, without relief, was cured by Nichols1 Ague Tonic. These gentlemen are well known and their state'monts oan be relied on. Besidos it i3 well known that the house of Barr, Gulick & Berry would not manufacture or urge the Eale ofamodicine which had not the merit claimcd. They could give other testimo nials, but feel assursd that one fair trial will satisfy the most incredulou?.

IMMENSE FACTORY IMPROVEMENT.— The large addition to the piano factory of Messrs. Wm. Knabe is
Co., at the eor^
nor of Eutaw and West streets, is now completed, and the factory is At this time the largest in the country. The entire building has been remodelled for the better arrangement of the several departments of the work, so that as the manufacture of an instrument progresses, it passes regularly from floor to floor until it is ready for use. The factory has now a front of 210 fjaet on Eutaw street, and 156 feet on West street, and covers, with the lumber houses and yards, an area of nearly two and a quarter acres. The new part of the building has a front of 140 feet on Eutaw street, with depth of 40 feet, and is five stories high. Tbe centre front is of pressed brick, after the composite style of architecture, with gable peak, and on the roof is a handsome cupola, from which there is a magnificent view of tbe water and land for miles around, the floor of the cupola having an altitude of one hundred feat. In the interior construction of the building the greatest precautions have been taken to guard agaiast damage by. fire. It is divided by heavy brick walls, with iron doors leading from one part of a fljor to another, and so thorough are the arrangements that water may at any time be opened in any part of the structure.
In the new building the first floor is occupied a? an office^ store-room, wareroom and packing room, while in the old build, ing the first floor has been devoted to tbe use of machinery entirely, where all the rougher portions ef the^work are done. Here all tbe frames for the pianos and the keyboards are prepared for the hands of the workmen who give the finishing touch. meat is hare partitioned off, where one man is constantly engaged with a machine in wrapping the braes wires, the machine makiog "about four thousand revolutions per minute. The fourth floor sfill In future be used by fly finishr era, case makers, and for putting legs under thejostrumeats. Thus, from the first floor the instruments have gone through the regular stages of manufactuer, and carried from one floor to another by means of an elevator, until they are ready for the finishing department, which is in the new portion of, the factory, whither they are conveyed on trucks made expressly for the purpose. The varnishing department occupies the.entire fifth flupr ot the old and new buildings, where there ate now from six to seven hundred pianos in the finishing process. Descending as gradually in the new building, as the ascent was In the old, after leaving the varnishing department the instruments are transferred to the fourth fioor, where the strings and actions are put. into the cases. Thence they are taken to the third floor, where the actions are regulated, the instruments put in tune, the tops put on and the cases polished. On the second flooc the pianos having passed entirely "from the hands of the workmen are here examined and tuned before they can be sent to the wareroom, on the first floor, or to the salesroom. Tho capacity of the factory has, by these improvements, been increased from twenty-five to forty-five pianos per week, giviog employment to four hundred men. Alt parts of the building are thoroughly lighted and ventilated and in the front oantre of the new building there is an elevator of the most costly and perfect description, so constructed that it cannot fall, and large enough to take in a piano standing on its legs. The well hole for this elevator is a perfect ventilator to each of the floors. Every part of the factory is supplied with water and all the modern conveniences. The entire area of the Ave floors of the building, as now constructed, covers two and onehalf acres. The improvements have cost some forty thousand dollaist but the demand for a much larger supply of pianos required that they should be made, and the enterprise of the proprietors detorm ined theqi that' Baltimore, in this department of industry at least, shall not be behind any other city of the land.—Baltimore Gazette.
