ers. A writer in the New York
Tribune,
who at first doubted the statement by another relative to the practice in the wine districts in France, of "naked women going into the wine vats up to their waists, to stir ap the fluid and thus facilitate the process of fermentation," says that on a late visit to the Rhine, and irn Champaign, France, he found the custom was universal, and on referring to the authorities found the statement fully confirmed. Writers disagree as to the objcct of this practice, some claiming t^at the natural warmth of the body hastens fermentation, and others asserting that the stirring about and mixing up of the pomace in this way gives the wine "a fuller body," a deep color, or a superior bouquet. As it is now estimated that we have already planted in the United States 2,000,000 acres of vineyard, or an area equal to two fifths of that devoted to vinea iu France, it is to be hoped, says the writer, that the French mode of making wine will not be introduced into our country—at least until Yankee ingenuity has been exhausted in finding a substitute

It were vain, at such a time as this, to speak of consolation to those to whom the deceased was bound by the ties of relationship: yet sympathy, in affliction mitigates its pangs, and we know that there are few, if any, in this city whose hearts have not ached with grief at the terrible blow that has fallen upon the family of Mr. Tuttle. In acceptance of the above agenoy, I would I state for the benefit of all who have heretofore been uaing othair qualities, which ware generally accompanied by cheaper ratea, say l^U^c, that those qualillea were very inferior to that which II now offer, particularly that t(M the *M)tter

These facta I cut substantiate, lf nec easarf for convincing proof. 1 will, at ail times, use my beet 4 udeavorrto aecommoaate, both ha regards quality and qnaatity aad price, »nd. trust by cioae attention to all ordan, to receivaj a liberal share of patronage.
