EsoitBH irkWBPAPXiis are still engaged in the discussion of the Cuban revolution. They end the troubles now distracting the "ever faithful Isle," by transferring the territory, inhabitants, volun. tears and patriots included, to.the authority of the United States, Spain is to re-, linquish all her rights of sovereignty over the Island, for a valuable consideration from our opulent Republic. It is taken for granted that we will be willing purchasers to whom money is no object. The wishes of the Cubans themselves they regard as of no importance whatever, looking upon the United States and Spain as the only parties interested. This is am acknowledgment of our power as a nation, but can hardly be considered as compliment to our respect for justice and love of fair play. The Cuban revolu tionists are contending for freedom from Spanish rule, not for annexation to tttB United States.

This Lake issomeforty miles in lsngtb, and from two to four miles wide. It is a beautiful sheet Of water, its eastern shore being finely culti tivated and dotted with neat farm houses, and ita western shore rising abruptly fropa the water's edge, in some places two fcr three thousand feet. The Lake is said the guide books to abound in fish, "espe cially the

However, it is a fine place to camp, and there are plenty, or at least, a goodly number of treat in tho streams about here. But my purposo in coming here was more particularly to get rest apd quiet. Hero you have bath those in th|ir perfect state, bfides the air is invigorating and cool. In fact, it is almost too cool, lining tho sun shines. gives one just exercise enough to stir £he blood and prepare for sleep. And sjjtch sleep 11 as the hymn has it, "None buibe who feels it knows." Look at my HadIt is seme foot or more in thickness, Ind -s made of hemlock boughs. Talk! of. feathers, hair, sponge, husk, or whatever else beds are made of. They are not to be mentioned in comparison with hfem~ lock boughs. Lie down on that rubber blanket which constitutes the "tick", to my bed. Is it not soft, springy and sweet as—as an orange grove, or Bny thing else especially sweet? Pass the early and later hours of the day in hunting, fishing or a pleasant walk during the middle portion of the day lie in the shade and read and laugh over Vanity Fair, .or .some other pleasant and ^itty book, taking an occasional nap and at early bei-time, say nine o'clock, undress bytakiog off shoes, wrap an army blanket around you and go to this bed: In a few minutes the music of the ilind among the tree tops, with the regular beating of the waves upon the shore, lulls you into a quiet and peaceful sleep, during which, if you dream at all, it is of pleasant havens where the weary are at rest. Wake for a moment, and the sWeet odor of the hemlock boughs, the soughing of the wind, and the wavea lapping the shore, convince you that you dream is a reality, and ere you know your are awake sleep holds you again in sweet uncqnsciousnesE. Something trips, across your foot, and you start up, as I did this .morning, to find that it ts morning,'and that a little eqirrel, in his early ramble, has run across your foot. He loiks a moment at you, surprised to find the log, for which doubtless he mistook yon, alive, and off be runs. This is the paradne of weary mortals, and, in a few weekd, one drinks in health, strength and cherfulness sufficient to carry him through the •labor and care of the remainder of the twelve-month. But perhaps some tonromantic reader, for such there are, says: ''Suppose it bad been stormy.
