Hebe is another horrid accident from ,tbe criminally careless use of coal til. We quote from the Eransville

Journal

of yesterday "We are called upon this morning to chronicle a sad and melancholy accident wbieh occurred yesterday afternoon.— Melissa Griffith, aged 18 years, while kindling afire to cook dinner, at the residence ot' B. P. Robertson, where she re-t sided, took up the ooal oil can, containing about a gallon of oil, and poured it on the fire. The result was that the oil caught Are, the can exploded, and the young lady's clothes were set on fire, and in an fcstant almost abe was enveloped in fl irri6*. She ran out of thtf house into the street, where she was caught and tho flames extinguished, but too late, it is feared, to do any good. She was horribly burned on the arms, shoulders, and body, and from a short distance above her knees to tlje. waist she was literally roasted. 3

Drs. Bray and Runcie were called* to attend on bar, and remedies were administered to alleviate her terrible sufferings. A salve made of linseed oil and lime water was made and spread over the place where she was burned, which gave

ber

some relief. Her physicians say it is impossible for her to live, and it is n|t thought probable that she will survive today.
