Last Satubdat night some seoundrel entered the sleeping apartment of tbe young and beautiful daughter of Mr. J. R. Being earelea? in the Ase of the liquid he threw some of it in her eyes, whereupon she awoke and screamed and the fiendish wretch fled. Hemp was made for the necks of such as he, or it was made in vain.

We understand that Mrs. Rosengartner, who has gone deranged on the subject of Spiritualism, has been very much devoted to planehette, but never manifested a very great interest in the spirits until the Convention met here, although she was a mediam. About six weeks ago the lady visited the Jefferaonville circle, and on her return home manifested symptoms of •insanity. She has been growing wone, gradually, until now she believes that her every act and word iscontroied by spirits, and it is necessary to keep a dose watch over her. It is thought by her friends that with proper treatment she may recover from her sad afflctiont—Ind,

THE POWELL SXPJCDXTIOK.

It is now reduced to nearly a certainty that the statement attributed to John Sumner, of the loss of the Powell exploring expedition, is without foundation. It is quite certain that when Sumner nas not returned from the expedition to repprt its destruction three weeks ago, he would certainly have bean heard from ere tlHs by telegraph, by letter, or in person, by Mrs. Powell, with whom and her btuband he was on two previous expeditions, and for wham he has the wannest rc or by his own relatives. Bis brotbsr-in law, the editor of tbe Denver News, being without any communication from him telagraphed to the operator at Bridger for Information, and received this reply, which he publishes Tn the News of the 6th Inst.: "No man came to Bridger from the Powell expedition. The report origin atwl from the drowning of Mr. Hook in Green river. There are to tne big liars In this country, and they wanted to tell something, so they got up the story. The first we beard of it was from Grangers. The report waa that all the party was drowned but one, and that he came in here. At Veast there is not a man at tbe pest that has ever seen or heard of any of Powail's p*rty since they left Bridger last spring."

July 12.—The grand pro-

Orer 10,000 persons were on the streets to view the pageant. The weather exceedingly warm, Seltzer water glv«n out, and fears are expressed that lager ill run short.

The Arion Society of New York bore a banner on which was inscribed "From Boston noise, still sick and sore, took a ride to Baltimore," where they, as every one may see, now hold what is a jubilee. A herring, a lager barrel and a pretzel were suspended from_the banner. The singing match take! place to-night at the Maryland Institute, by eighteen societies.
