Last Saturday night the Keynon* were watted on by a vigilance committee of six or eight men, with the avowed determination of taking the girl ou'. of their possession, when a general melee ensued. Books, clubs and arms were used without reserve, and after a brisk fight the moo succsded in rescuing the girl, who called loudly on the assailing patty fur protection. The girl was found fastened up, with nothing but her night clothes, to prevent her escaping Dan Kerson received a slung in his ffcee. xat had twenty-two sings and balls in his budy, and is very dangerously, it not fatally wounded. He it receiving the medical attendance of an eminent physician, who says be has two balls through his lungs. Belle is about fourteen year* old, and is said to be a fine, sprighlty child.—

Washington, June 24.—When Secretary Boutwell was at Groton, towards the

close of last week, he wrote Assistant Sec rotary Richardson a letter with regard.to modification of his plan for the purchase of bonds and sale of gold. He placed the letter with his own hand in the Groton post-office. The letter was received Richardson on Monday, and by him contents were kept secret until after olose of business, and it was not earlier than half-past four when a letter was written to the Assistant Treasurer at New York on the subject, and the paragraph furnished the press.

Gen. Sickles was among the callers on the President this morning. Senators Carpenter and Boreman, and several members of the House of Representatives were also in consultation with the President.

RECEIPTS.

Customs receipts last week $2,617,277. Internal Revenue receipts to-day $889,942.

ARREST OF COUNTERFEITERS.

Col. Whitely, chief detective in the servise of the U. S. Tressury, assisted by Jno. Clover, his principal attache, has made arrests in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and several Western States of counterfeiters and counterfeit money, plales, presses and other materials.— About one dozen men altogether have been arrested in the last six weeks.

The Indiana gang were arrested some days ago near Ft. "Wayne, while engaged in making money, and $400,000 in counterfeit noteB of 26 cent currency were seized, with twelve sets of steel plates of 50 cents, and several presses and a lot of ink and other material.

Solicitor Banfleld is determined to support Col. Whitely to the fullest extent of the law in breaking up gangs of counterfeiters whose operations extend all over tbe country.

A number of important arrests made will be given to the public ia a few days, which will show efficiency in expert counterfeiting equal to anything ever before heard of in this or any other country. The 25 cent counterfeit note just captured is a finished imitation, and a large amount of it has been circulated by tbe gang.

Tbe late arrest of a government officer in Western New York, who was found to be in complicity with them, promises developments of great importance to the secret service. It is said bis friends expended $20,000 to obtain his pardon several years ago.

THE SPANISH MISSION.

President Grant has decided that the restriction preventing army officers from holding civil office does not apply to officers on the letired list. This decision enables General Sickles to accept the Spanish mission. He oflVrs to relinquish his army pay while occupying hia diplomatic position. His name will be continued in the army register. He will leave Now York for Madrid aluct the 10th or 15th yi July. Mr. Hale will await his arrival.

There is no probability that Mr. Perry will be re-appointed Secretary of Legatioo.

SOUTHERN ELECTIONS.

President Grant will on tbe 10th of July, after the Virginia election, order au election in Mississippi to take placeon ibe 15th of September, and an election in Texas to take place the last of .September or tbe first of October.

MINISTER MCMAHON.

The Department of State has received dispatcher, from General MoMahon to the 21st of Aprtl, at which time he was well. His relations with Lopez are so cordial andfricndly, that after the great defeat of the Paraguayan army, he was entrusted with the care of his family

There has bsan no attempt by Lopez to interfere with his free communication with this government. Whatever impediments existed are ittributable to the course of the Allies, who, for along time, declined to send out a flag of truce with dispatches for him, and fired upon the fhg of truce sent by the Paraguayans with Gen. McMahon's dispatches.

San Francisco, June 23.—The rubber patent suit of Goodyear and others against Blake, Dentist, of "San Francisco, Judge Hodman, in the United Stales Court, granted plaintiff perpetual injunction and decree for profits.

Tbe committee of "Ways and Means of Ibo House of Representatives and invited guests arrived at S-tcrameato by special train yesterday. They were met by exGovernor Stanford and a number of prominent citizens, and escorted to hotel.

Providekce, R. I., June 23. —The opening races at Narragansett Park took place to-day, attendance large.

The first race for $1,350, $1,000 to first horse, $350 to second horse, was won by Mice's Locust. Best time 2:44}.

London, Jane 24.—It is reported that France is endeavoring to renew the September convention with Italy for tbe withdrawal of French troops from Borne, and that she only requires sufficient guarantees from Italy for the aeourity of the papal territory before concluding the treaty. ...........

Berlin, June 24.—The Prussian government has laid before the Federal council of Zol Verein a proposition for a treaty of commerce and navigation with Mexico, on the basis of the treaty concluded with Mexico September 7th 1855.

Paris, June 24.—The Emperor to-day visited the Camp of Chalons and made a speech to the soldiers. He reminded the army that this was the anniversary of the battle of Solferino, and said he was pleased to see they had not forgotten the great cause for which thoy fought ten years ago. The Emperor continued as follows: "Preserve the remembrance of the battles fought by your fathers and yourselves, for our victories are to be the history of the progress of civilization.— You will thus maintain the military gpirt which is the triumph of noble over vulgar passion. It is fidelity to the flag, devotion to the country—continue in the same course and you will always be worthy of so great a nation.

Florence, June 24.—Official journals Btate that large crowds assembled in the streets of Genoa, but committed no violence, oonflning their demonstrations to the utterance of seditious cries. They finally dispersed without making any resistance to the police. Slight demonstrations are reported in Naples and Bermajo.

New York, June 24.—It appears that after bail had again been refused for Col. Ryan, yesterday, and while in charge of a deputy Marshal, they drove to the Metropolitan Hotel on leaving which plaoe, and when near there th9 Colonel and deputy were surrounded by friends of the former suddenly. The deputy was seized and bound, and Ryan went to the Cabaa rendezvous.

Considerable commotion was soon observable among the rescuers, whe left in squads for Jersey City, where they oolleoted until a late hour l"st night, when, with Col. Ryan and other officers, they embarked on tugs and were conveyed to a large steamship in the loWer Bay, and all safely sailed for their destination.— There were 500 men In th4 expedition. arretted, 1 Col. Curren, formely on Booker's staff, and two others, were arrested last night on information from aSpaAiefe spy that they were in the recruiting business for Cubans.

FILIBUSTERING.

It ill reported that during the gather* ing of Cuban expeditionists in Jersey City last night, a Spanish spy was found and beaten, but managed to escape after shooting one of the expeditionists, slightly iundins the latter.

The United States Marshal for New Jersey is reported to have seized a tug boat and a large barge on which the expeditionists were about to embark, thus preventing their departure. Tbey returned to this city, but will leave tcnight.

REBELLION IN PORTO RICO.

Intelligence has been received by a commercial bouse in this city that a rebellion which had broken out at Arrajoe, Porto Rico, was deemed formidable. News of the event had been received at different points* in tbe Island and caused profound excitement.

LAY DELEGATION.

The "Methodist" has returns from 576 churches, which cast 23,615 votes in favor, and 8,518 against lay delegations. 367 churches gave affirmative, and 109 churches negative majority.

Boston, June 23.—Thomas Morris and Thos. Gilligan, the former arrested for vagrancy, tbe latter for assault, were found dead this morning in tbe Dorchester alms house, where they were confined. The cause of death is a mystery, which the coroner's inquest will endeavor to explain. 1CASOSIC.

Tbe Springfield Commandery Jknighta Templar arrived bore this afternoon, and attracted much attention. They leave to-morrow morning for Newburyport, and join the Masonic celebration there to-morrow.
