Chubch Dedication.—The new Uol versalist Chureh building on iEighth street was dedicated yesterday morning with the Interesting services of that church, in the presence of a very large audience. The services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Kurry, of Danville,-send Rev. A. W. Bruce, of Lafayette. The choir was under charge of Mr. S. S. Ken uedy, and the muBic of such a character as to jddgreatly to the interest of th$ ftfc* etcises.

The sermon was delivered by the Rev. W. W. Curry, and was interesting instructive and appropriate to the occa sion. Taking as a text, the passage from Luke XXI, wherein speaking of the Temple at Jerusalem, Jesus said: "As for these thinju..which ye behold, the days will come in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down," he briefly, sketched jthis mBgnifipent structure, and the com plete fulfllWeut of the prophecy. From the facts he drew the following lessons as appropriate to the opCasien First, that In contemplating the Mligious buildings of past ages, and remembering that the congregation had aeaembled to dedicate this building to religious uses, we are re minded thhl the religious nature cfaves cftnpaniodship, and therefore, demand buildings, suitable for public religious exeroftSi. The sermon was scholarly effort, and3"fȤ to throughoul with marked attention.

At the conclusion of the sermon, Mr Reagan read n.brief history of the society from its organization to the present lime, from which learn that the original constitution adopted on the formation of the

The cost of the house, ground and furniture is about $11,000, on which there is remaining an indebtedness of about $1,000.'

Sunday School Union—The Fourth Anniversary of the Sunday Sohool Union was held at Dowling Hall yesterday afternoon. The meeting was presided over by Rev. W- M. Cheever, tho President,-and the exercises consisted of singing by the chil-

W. W. Byer|, S^ratarif p^eaeated the foilowihg reportT Not a very glo winir account of our work for the past year, as a Union, can be given. Since our last anniversary, but one meeting has been held, that of Dec. 14, at the Baptist church, when the subject of uniform lepsons was discussed Wiith much interest^ afid officer* elected for the next year.

The following is a report of the operations of the different schools connected with the Union for the past year.

From the laie return of tbeee reports or from the failure on the part of Superin tendents to return them at all, it is impossible to estimate with anything like exactness the number of children in the ^Sunday schools.

For the same reason a comparison can not be made with last year's reports, but .by looking over the different reports alight advance may be noticed in some oaBcS, and in others a falling off, in some cases greater, in others less. Of the twelve schools represented in the Union,

Lhree hold their sessions in the morning and tbe remainder in the afternoon, and ,tbe majority of thoss attending in the morning attend again in the afternoon, so that In reality tbe number of scholar! ia-thedlffMont-schooli-wil faH- far short of the aggregate of these reports.

The number of conversions reported last year was 101. Tbis year 19. It is subject of serious thought whether we la bor more to draw the children to Christ or simply to amuse them whether we dwell more upon Christ and him crucified or upon the idUcussioii of semto whibn has-obthihg to dd Ufa the way of eternal life. Tbe demand lus never ceased for more teacfagflbrsflarnest, devoted teachers—more of Christ's proposed followers who have not forgotten his com* mand, "Feed my Lamb,'' V/

Tbe reports handed in to the,Secretary show the number of scholars enrolled to be as follows: First Baptist....! 350 Seoond Baptist 160 'Congregational 266 German Methodist..... 70 Christian Centenary M. 3£ & 646 Asbury M.
