Surveying ^he whole ground, I havo amvad^at ^la conclusion that the best in tarlms o4 tffe city f^jjtiire that the Repub lican nominating convention, which meets on Saturday, should nominate P. A man of education, he wtyl he enabjed to bring into the office the necessary amount of intelligence That he is firm and independent enough to dis charge all Tla Idatiffifgl jfiBftil every body who knows him will agree. And that he can command popularity enough to be easily elected, may, I think, be Confidently asserted. Beyond these considerations, however, he has claims which should not be Overlooked. As- a faithfdl, consistent, and working member of the Republican party, he has been enabled to secure the respect and confidence of its members, and his nomination will incite them to active exertions, as the only means in their power to signify their just and proper appreciation of such as he has himself put forth In behalf of the principles they cber ish so highly. With his name upon our ticket we shall succeed at the election— without it, the contest will be doubtful.
