Rev. E. Frank Howe, of the Congregational Church, delivered a sermon last evening to Christian yoters. Hi* text was Matt. 5. 13: "Ye are [the salt of the earth:'
After setting forth the des
tructive force of evil, and showiug that Christian principle, operating through the individual Christian, is the proper antidote, the salt,ke proceeded to depict the corruption existing' in all parts of government, National, State and Municipal. The men seeking office from mercenary motives, and by '^ile means, "crawling into office through ««)«ona, gambling hells and brothels," were severely denounced. He said tile salt that( is to stay this oorruption of the body poll-' tic is Christianity, operating through Christians. Christians most not 'Stapd aloof politics because they are corrupt but on that very account must ge in and purify them. There is no use in grumbling or railing over existing corruptions, and doing nothing. Christian voters must make themseivef -Hppected by r4-' fusing to aid in the election of bad men to office. Especially should Christians attend all primary election* and caacoaeii and thus put the salt into the fountain.
