The rumor that Sike Hartman had made a confession has been prevalent for Eaveral dayv and was, In part, cored. On last Thursday or Friday he nide a statement, which he called a "oon ession," to one of the^fficers of the jail ind which wasjby him reduced to writing, The ftstement is the same Hartman the Grand Jury, aad is ibot the iiOTt remarkable specimen in the world of making a "cle*n breast" of crime. On the contrary, it is evidently a cooked up affair, with the intention of throwing il^ wicjwoeit portiolis of this erime on guiltfoes parties, and of mitigating his own ^hare in the trgedy, and of screening certain guilty parties by throwing the au fliorities "off the scent." That part on o] tSia ator-y implicating Fiecus, be baa told before, and it has been proven untrue— Fiscus having clearly proven an alibi. Ihe attempt t6 implicate the woman Frank Clark is believdd to be a mere in Mention of the original aad ingenious 8ifa»- ban ,01

The story that Mr. Dordey is involved ih (b^ ci'ime fs the most incredible of all and nobody will believe it until itisprov. enQr Hie good name is too firmly established to be shaken by the "confession' oif a scoundrel. Evidently this "con ion" is a preconcerted arrangement to shi^d guilty parties, implicate Innocent obes and palliate Hartman's crime. The effort'to involve Fispus is believed to have been inspired by Hartman'g knowledge of the fact that Fiscus will be a damaging Witney against him. Fisous is expected to depose that he was asked by Hartman to ta)te a band in the murder, .Still the "p^nfeskfoh" of considerable value in that it1 shows the right parties Tiave been caught, that Hartman and Abraou are gbUty. ^his is the substance of the "eon teBeio^f'It ojpens out by stating that the conspiracy was. formed by Abrams, Fiscus and Dorsey more than a month before the tmgedy. that he was approached jay Fistils Md Abrams to take a.prominent part in( it, but refused and that .finally he consented U) take the part which be relateo fitther oh" in bis confession. On Monday night last a'party of misk ed villains burned the corn crib of Mr. George" Norwood, near Decatur. Nor wood ran out at the alarm of Are, and was shot, but not dangerously wounded by the assassins, who were dancing and bowling like demons about the burning building.' It looks a little sa if there, were need of militia in Northern Alabama,

A desperate negro, named Odell, who lived in the mountains iA Jefferson county, Tenn., and levied contributions on the farmers residing in the vicinity, was recently killed after, a terribe fight with five pursuers. He used stones and his assailants revolvers, but he killed one, wounded badly two others, and captured a horse, with whieh he was making off when it backed over a precipice, and he was so badly hurt that he could make no defense and had his brains blown out.

A few days since Davis Smith was killed at Fcrdericksburg, Washington counay, J(.y., by Pr. John W. Carrioo.— There had been a difficulty between the parties two or three months before, growing out of jealousy on the part of Smith, and Carrico then fired a shot or two at Smith without effect It is said that each had threatened to tcike the life of the other. Early last Monday morning, Smith was passing by Dr. Oarrico's office, going to ffed his horse, and having corn for that purpose in his arms. When he was about opposite Carrico,s office, the latter fired at him from the window, dis« charging bblh- barrels of a double-barrel-ed shot-gun, loaded with buck-shot. The fint shot took effect, and Smith expired alinost instantlyi hlti

The Warsaw (Mo.) Time* says a young man named Overton, whose father resides in'the southern part of the oounty, went to Washington county to procure work, and, as alleged, when he returned, brought with him a horse and a mule, the property of one of the citisens of that 'county. The owner of the property came here in pursuit arrested the young man secured one of the animals, and sent a man after the other, remaining themselves to guard the prisoner until the return of their messenger. One of the men standing nearest the prisoner tuibed his head to his companion, when Ovhrton suddently drew a kniCa from his pocket, aimed a blow whioh was only too sure—the blade eotored the neck of the unfortunate men, severing the carotid ar tery and cutting a frightful gash, sufficient to let out twenty lives, if the poor map hadpossesed them. The blood spirted out in a sickening tide, and though the dyitag man clung with a death grasp to the? clothes of his murderer, the witness of the awful scene, though standing by with a drawn revolver, who was so overcome that he could give no assistance, and as the nerves relaxed and the body fell heavily to the' floor a ghastly oorps, the assassin sprang to the door and in an instant was gliding through the brush, pursued only by the fean of an aocusing con' science. The alarm was soon given, how ever, and at last accounts a large posse was in such close pursuit that it seems hardly impossible for him to escape capture^
