Mr. Pierce, of Porter Said Ms views on the matter were known to .the House The Seuate, with great unanimity, had made a provisitn of this sum, $80,000 for the Normal School building, in what is galled the Omnibus bill. The friends of the Normal School now desired the House to consider thfe questiofi' in :this Wll.

Mr. Johnson of Parke1 said_in regard to this proposed amendment: Mb. Spkakib: This is a question: in which we are all interested afc well as our constituents. I am now willing, :'and liave always been willing to vote an appropriation, of about the amount asked for in this amendment, but in doing so, I do not endorse the .action ot the Legislature establishing the Normal Schoof.' They and the Legislature of 1867, should have been more guarded in thoir Legislation, but such is the fact. We have the building and the people's money' invested in it. What shall we do, ii we fail to complete K, make this appropriation? Duty to ourselves and to the people demand that we completM the building that they may be able to irpp the benefit of the investments already made. In voting for this proposition, do not indorse the representations mado fey the friends of this measure two yeprs ago.
