The Registry Law.

The bill of whfch we hav» heretofore spoken, amending or changing the Registry Law, has passed th« House' *nd is pending in the Senate, where it will be likely to receive a pretty thorough ovefc* hauling. As our readers are interested fn evory movement affecting the elective •franchise, we give a Wtlef synopsis of the bill as it passed-the House, showing the provisions of the present Registry La^w j. which the Committee have retained,^bose which tbey have abolished, and those a a S 0 i. The first section, which provides thit a person, to acquire a residence in ta '"township, 'mast reside at least twenpr days in the township, city or ward wherehe shall offer to vote, has been retained

Almost every step in engineering and mechanical progress ^as been marked by some substitution of iron for wood, qr some new combination of iron. But one o! our most enterprising Eastern railroads has reversed the old order of things, and has gone baok to bring up improvements in wood. The iron wheel on an experi mental car has been thrown aside abd a wooden one substituted. The cost cff ^be new wheel is three times that of the common cast-metal one, but its durability Is estimated to be eight times as great that is, il will run a distance of four hundred thousand mile*) while the metal wheel will only run fifty thousand. Fabulous as this may seem, when we consider the elasticity and toughness of certain kinds of wood, there is no.reasoo why when used as car wheels they should not preserve their texture Jpnger than iron, if the weiring surface be properly protected.—

Another section provides that eaoh election board, inoluding two olerkB shall be equally divided between the two parties casting the greatest number of vote?, and that the board shall be a pointed by the Township Trustees.

It will be noticed that the bill repeals the registration of voters, and except the particulars named, elections will regulated by tbe old election laws.

It ie evident that the Amerioan peop are preparing to give General Gratfi hearty Goti-blessing when he enters upc^i tap duties of the Presidency. It is alto evident that no part of this sentiment springs from the hope of a doubtful courie on his part, or from an expected difference botweori him and his party. Perhaps nothing was ever better understood than that the new President is and intends*to remain in thorough accord with Bepub^ican principles and the Republican organization. On this point be is as outspoken as he is reticent about his own deedi. Here, at loast, there is nothing to explain or disclose. 1R

The world may be in the dark flott General Grant's Cabinet, but he has tak^i care to indicate, every day since the official enunciation of his election, what all the world may know—that be ls -corapletely identified with the Republican pirty.

A lact like this gives peculiar' dignity to the readings of tbe American people to^support the new administration. Th$t readiness means something -more than confidence to General Grant, It meats the popular recognition of the justice cf Republican principles and the finality if Republican reconstruction.

General Grant is himself the very bwt type.dtJhe-eentisaent which is prepared to'sustain him in the adminismtion pf the Government. The school of war eBu«*te3 him and millions of otbtra, ae indeed it constrained the Republican leaders themselves to recognise strong messure» SI the only way fe put down and keep down the rebellion.'
