Twa-tralns pass at this point and as he was in the act of stepping on one he was caught by the oow-cstcher of the passing train, and thrown a considerable distance. Wecoujd not learn the extent of his injuries, bnt understand they are quite Bcrious.

Pugilistic. Yesterday John McOlellan and Robert Weathers were arraigned before Mayor Cookerly, chaiged with being drunk and fighting. MeClellan proved the most guilty of the two, und was assessed $16, whioh a friend "stayed." WeatherB* offense seemed to be that he was so drunk that he could not run away from his antagonist. He was put down for only $6,60. Couldn't pay, and went to jail.

The custom has so degenerated that the day has become little better than another All Fools' day.-— Coarseness takes the lead in the ep'stolary volleys that are fired through the postoffice ten persons wishing to insult or put a joke on somebody to one who it moved by the traditional sentimentalism of tba dav.

Theatre.—To-night

will be repeated

oy particular request the great sensational drama of "Arrah na-Pogue," which was received with such rapturous applause on the first appearance of the company.— This is one of the great sensations of the day, having achieved an unprecedented success in New York city, and has been produced with like results in all the lead» ing cities of the country.

We learn negotiations are progressing for Mrs. Gen. Lander to appear shortly in connection with Mr. Rouse's company.

Larceny.—Thursday

morning a girl

of bad character, known as "Coon" Gibeon, applied at the residence of Mr. James Farrirgtoa for a situation as cook. She gave her name as Lixxie Telly, and the family, not aware of her real character, gave her the desired employment. The time evening, while the family were at tea, she left, taking about seventy.flve dollars worth of clothing, two watch chains, and other articles. She was ar. rested yesterday, and on being taken before ths Mayor, was held in the sum of twe hundred and fifty dollars to appear at the next court. Failing to give the required bend, Bhe was sent to jail. On her person was found about twenty dollars' worth of clothing, including a pair of George's kid glovos

Wolfe—Dear Sib After hav

ing carefully examined the American Button-hole Over-seaming Sewing Machine,

I

cheerfully say that it is one of

suporior capacity and durability, easily• understood and nat likely to get out of repair, and the materia) used in (ts'instruction is of the best quality, and the shuttle being carried, avoids the wear and^ friction of a race.

C. A. FERA.

1 endor9|ihS:fibove^ Joseph%

McOan Machinist

Being requested, simply as a wotkaaan of long experience in Sewing Machines^ to sive an opinion as to the value of.thO American Button hole Sewing Machine^ I have come, after a careful examination of all its parte and their respective action to the following conclusions: 1st. The machine is tqually as well executed in point of material and workr manship as any of first olass name in the trade. 2d. As a Shuttle Machine alone it is equal to the Howe, Grover & Baker N6. 9, Latt & Webster, superior, though, in point of liability to lost motion to the Florence and the present Singer Family, 3d. The disparaging complication arising from the Button-hole attachment in its nature is so simple that any person of common machine sense may learn to hail' die and work it in a few minutes without difficulty. A. Tittmak.

After having tested the Ameriean Ma chine, I cheerfully recommend it as one of superior capacity. It is easily under' stood and managed, not liable lo get otit of order, performs all kinds of work satisi* factory, and should only be understood to be admired.

Mrs.

P. W. WoifB—«Sir recommend the machine bought of you at an excellcOt piece" of machinery, that works easily and worfsWwelli and rtally does all it is claimedto Ire. It onfy ne^ds to be knowft to be adaUred.(j(f [,
