Onk of the quickest railroad trips evpr made in this State, was made on tho Joffdrsonvillo road Sunday. A train, oonsisting of tl'e engine D. Thk Lafayette Journal has been shown by Senator Stein the original compafct upon which the Senatorial /WU \^as grounded. It reads as follows: "We, the undersigned Republican mombers of the General Assembly of Indiana, hereby repudiate the late nomi« nation of Will Cumbaek to the United States Senatorship, and' mutually pledge ourselves to refuse our votes to bim at all times and to use our votes, influence and utmost exertions to secure the election of an acceptable Republican 'Jo- the office, but in no event catling our vote for a Democrat.

last Friday ^ight the m|il train moving west, on the ^ellefontaine roadj ran oyer and killed a map, about two diles east of Fortville. Tbe engineer did not know he had run over any one until after the discovery of tbe body by the Express train following, and an examination of his engine whic^i bore marks of tho blood of tho unfortunate man.

T^R completion of a third route to Chicago is now a matter of-t»me and it is now probable tbat there will be two ways of reaching tbat route even. It was stated at the citizen's meeting at Indianapolis, the other night, that there were five offices in Marion county that were worth, in the aggregate, over $50,000 a year, and that either one qf these offices was worth more than the salaries of all the county judges and county prosecutors combined. ,,

Will Ctjmback deserves his defeat. We do not question bis devotion to the Republican party, yet his corrupt proposition to Gov. Baker, during the gubefna-, toral canvass, was one that no General Assembly could knowingly indort^ without self-stultification. Trading in offioial positions is an ulcer upon the body politic, which, if continued and r*^ cognized, may obe day eat into the vitals of the Republic. Tbe practice has long been in rogue, but the rebuke just administered is well-deserved.—Chicttge JR4publican.
