Thk Evansville Journal truthtt'ulty suggests that the contest at Iodianapoiis disgraceful and humiliating as it ii to the Republicans of tho State, ia not without its lesson of warning. Politicians who make a trade of office-seeking and office getting, eannot be safely trusted. Every man has tbe right to, aspire to any position within the gift of the people, but it is high time that individuals whij claim official position Jas "their peculiar right should bo repudiated. If the people can* not find among their number men who will accept official positions because the people want them, and not because they desire it, elections might well as be abandoned as useloss and exponsivo contrivances If there is no way of dleposing of the offices of the country except by placing them in the hands of men-who will uso them much as a gambler uses caros, to deceive and obeat the unwryy, certainly the expense and excitement of political campaigns may at least bo avoided. 2HEHHSHHSH5HS „,.w
