I True'Marriage-i^^^ _I believe there are a few thoa^hHul men who have not come to regard as one of the least explicable athong the great riddles of the earthly Economy the rarity of well-assorted marriages. It might be so different, one nannot help thinking. tJlfiA adaptations of happiness so manifold and so rich! Yet how often—how miserably sometimeS7--il aH miscarries! Tho waters of Paradise turned to fountains of Jjjtterness—the gifis of Heaven pervert ed to .curses upon earth 1
I do not mean that therd are' few unionsyielding reasonable comfort, lriendly relatione, life free from open quar» rel or secret heart-burning but 1 speak Of every marriage, without flaw or jar— a mating alike of the material, with its intangible affinities and its wondrous magnetisms, and of immaterial'principle within that survives the death-change. I speak of a heart-home pervaded by harmony n6t only oanbroken—immutable its that of the spheres felt to be sd tjr those ^rhom it blesses, calms, satisfies a social state to which, when man and woman attain, there remains nothing in the way of earthly iieed or acquisition, save daily bread, to be coveted or prayed for.
Some think that, in this tnal-phase of our Existence, no such state of harmony and happiness is to tte found. Among iihe few who do find it none of these skeptics will have place. No entrance Into that temple except for those who believe! Without faith in the Good and the Beautiful—the Good that is felt, not seen-^the Beautiful tfcat must bo conceived before it is realized—a man is shut' out from tbe highest enjoyment. And such a man can do little to meliorate the 'world or elevate his race.—"Bktosd

A Man Nearly'1? Decapitated with a Pocketknife.'
Another sho}k%g murder toolt place last night at. dwelling No. 1,512 Arrison avenue. The building has been occupied by two families. James Deropsey, wife and two boys,' rented the front room on ithe first floor, wlifle the back kitchen aid second story room were tenanted by Joseph Donobue, wife and two children
These two men have for some time been bad friends. They have Quarreled frequently, but. never came to blows until last, night. Dempaey/who is described as a ftral-raouth'ed matt, has indulged in very opprobrious epithets concerning Donobue, both in and out of his presence This had been carried to such an extent that the latter, a short time ago, had Sheriff writ for slander issued againgt Dernpsey. This has never
and he has continued bis abuse. Last night Dempaey aba Dbriolrne were both home, and both1 had bdefi paiitaking of whisky, though the latter wben arrested showed no Signs of intoxication. In tbe early'part: of the.. evening they had a quarrel,:, but had gone ,io.. their rooms without striking -or oflfering to strike One another. At 10 ofclook Damp ley went up. Stairs, and'on reaching tn latiding to whiah^tbedoor. of Donohue's ap'aVtment opened'he commenced flailing the latter hard names. After retnaininkometime Donohtte bpened his door an sprang at Demp^y^ with a knife, whioh he dashed violently-inte-the—back- of his neck, and dresr 9lt aronndilbe throat-^o the front. In its course the weapon, which-is a common clasp-knife^ with a blade about 2J inches long took off a piece of the ear. The wound is a very deep one, laying open at least one-half of an inch, of the carotid artery, the jugular vein. ,,A11 the veins on the left side of the neck were severed.
The Wdutsded man immediately fell inside Donohue's room, and there lay until he bledjto death, near eleven o'clock. Tbe murderer was in a terribly excited state, and walked the apartment tor a long time. One of the sons of Dempsey went for Dr. Hooper, who remained with the injured man .until death ensued. The other son called at the Fifth District Police-station, and stated that his father had been badly hurt. Policeman Lawrence and Boss were detailed to go and investigate, the matter.. On arriving at the house aod ascending the second floor, 'they beheld the bleeding form of DemiJiey. Donohue was sitting in a chair, and on being teld thatl.be was wanted, arose willingly, and accompanied the offi cial to the station house. His hands were covered clear to the wrist with the blood of his victim, and tbe front of his browa woolen shirt was also saturated. The knife, blade and handle, was completely covered with, gore, showing with what tr6'meh fbrc^ the 'blow must have been struck. The walls in the efltry and the door are all spotted.—Philadelphia Morning Fb»L' T* sT-irfjc
