a stir on Main street. A petition for Ita repeal and a remonstrance were present ed at the last session of the Council. .» 3

Commendable.—A nice stone crossing has been laid across Main Street from Tuell, Ripley & Co's to the National State Bank. Let's have them all along Main Street.

The Maboh came in last evening with a load of pork taken from the towboat "Waterman, sunk-just above Clinton. The Waterman was raised and probably got down last night. The Mason returns to Perry ville this morning at 8 o'clock.

On to the Capital.—Doctor Morgan Senator from Vanderburgh J. F, Wei born, Esq., Representative from Vander burgh, and Robert Logan, Representative from Pike, passed through the city yesterdav on their line of match to the State oaPuai.. ... 1 1 1

Oxtt Taxes.—We are glad to SeVthat the City Council, in acoordanoa with our suggestion several days since, Is taking prompt action to enforce the xjollwUon of delinquent taxes. A list of delinquents is to be immediately prepared for publi cation, after which the j| direc ted to proceed to colleot, by sale of pro perty if necessary. •i i- ri»xj

Goods.—Mr. P. J. Me

dlna, of Indianapolia, was in the city yesterday arranging to close out the stook of hair goods at Saxton & Walmsley1*, regardless of price. Many of our lady readers are aware of the good quality Of these goods, and with the low prices at which they will be offered there oan be no doubt the stock will soon be closed out. Ladles, if you have not examined these goods, do so at once. *.

One faib of drunks In the Mayor' Court yesterday. Wm. Norris exercised the privilege of getting as drunk as b6 could be—was fined $7.80—and rather than be bled of so much money, he brave ly went to jail to suffer it out.

Wm. Norris came to town and indulged in tangle-foot until his legs got terri bly mixed. He bad the figures $6.60 written opposite his name—hauled his pocket-book out and settled the dama{ on the spits iHrnMBBaMMaraaMMMWi

Mr. Wirt Sixes, who leotures here next Wednesday evening, is one of the most favorably known litterateurs America. He enters the lecture field this season, with twq carefully prepared lectures on themes with which he is more familiar than any other magazine writer of the present day. The Boston--pba* says: .17 "The lectures were brilliantly itiaugaS ated last evening by Mr. Wirt Sikes, who selected for bis subject "After Dark in New York." He received a warm and flattering reception from a critical Boston audience, holding their undivided attention for an hour and a half."

fiuti O'Bbien.—We have just {earned aa inoident connected with ihe release of the girl who shot Mr. Fairbroth^t at the Terre Haute House, that is not generally known. It will be remembered that, instead of granting the petition for her pardon, Gov. A Co.—Dear Sin: During

tbe past eight years I have had frequent opportunities to study the effect of MISBLsB'S tftCBB •BITTEBS upon persons snffariag from Dyspepsia, Loss of Nertous Energy, Sexual ITeakttees, Dimrzhosa, *c. Bemedles were prescribed by other physicians according to the Homeopathic, Allopathic, and Hydropathlo schools, and only a comparatively few permanent cores effected. On theother hand, I have never knoiH the Bitters to fall produolng the dealred result, and I still use them In the treatment of such complaints, with the highest success. I have no hesitation in sayJnftMt I consider MWblilB'S HXBB BITTERS "the moat efficacious remedy ever discoveries arising from a disordered Stomach, Liter, Kidneys, Bowels, tiunn afcd Hehrt.
