Our criminal code will require revision, in order that trials may not be postponed as often as a lawyer can be hired to "fix up" an affidavit. 'ir?
The registry law will be- amended or repealed, for ft has signally failed of its intended purpose. Instead of insuring a fair election, it has presented grand inducements for -perjury, and entailed a great expenditure of money upon the taxpayers.
A law providing for the collection of agricultural stitfTstios is Imperatively demanded, and v^ifl undoubtedly be passed.
The Ag*iP*UtV»l Collegia grant will again b»A fsuitftil subject for discussion, and Ul^Hnally disposed of. In this matter di^M'st there will be less ol local prejud^r, manifested than was the case twttyetsrsntgpx- This scction of the State #fiPSSt bfealikely to present any claim ^i^e io^ftion of the College in our cit£, .Wfci&te sure our members will be'disjtotei^TO consult no interest other than j^hetal good In the settement of that',ftpied question.
Our educational, penal and benevolent institutions will-demand unusual attention. TMelr Wflhag6meirt has been splendidly successful, but several of them are totally inadequate to supply the growing necessities of the State
1
Aside f^om jjhe jew mutters to which we have alluded, there are many others of scarcely less.importance that will demand early caroful attention. It must be a. Veryt, busy sessipn or it will have to be followed by a special session.
Our ojt. District is, perhaps, more ably represented than any other. Messrs. SeoTT, Huqhks and BICE, in the Senate, will take^tba front rank. All of them h^rf haJ^TaCh experience as members of leghrfatfta. bodies, and are men of recognized ability. I-o the-Honse Messrs. RrTaBT^ ^yT^P AM LJLTOHf OHNSTON, MASoHjMj acquit tbemsolTeswlh^at marked Ability which has characterized their previous public services. The Sixth District, may safely trust its Interests and its honor in the keeping the men whom it has sent to this setsfotf of the General Assembly.

Thx Evansviile Journal says—and we have heard the statement from other equally reliable sources—that in tb® wild woods of Spencer county, Indiana, unmarked by slab, and unprotected frotn desecration by animals, is the grave of the mother of President Lincoln. The neighbors declare there is no doubt with reference to its identity. Mrs. Lincoln was buried between two oak tree?, only separated from each other a distance sufficient to allow the grave to be dug lengthwise between them. The trees and the grave remain to-day as when first the pioni woman was buried, only that the trees area great deal larger ajid the grave has sunken to such an extent as to destroy all Hpp«tarapce of a grave.
(JdL. JOHN W. FOSTER, of the Bransville Journal, writing from Indianapolis' to that paper under date of the 6th inst"./ says: 'The Senatorial question will be the absorbing one of tbe session until it is disposed of, and very little interest will betaken in legislation until that is out of the way. The gathering of members does not make much change in tbe situation from that indicated by the press of the Statci for a few weeks past. Will Camback' has undoubtedly decidedly moro. strength than any one candidate, but not enough to elect him on the first ballot.— All the other candidates or their friends appear auxious to defeat bim, and if a combination is practicable, such may bo the result but I very much rloubt it. If he can go into the caucus with thirty-five or forty votes, as his friends claim, it will be hard to prevent his election. He is on tbe ground and using his popular address and clever accomplishments actively and with good effect, at least in atrensthening the confidence of his adherent^" T.V ris
Wpi learn from the Jasper (Dubois Co.) Courier that during Christmas week a etrarjger was found dead on the highway leadihg from TaylorBVille to Pikesville, with,a bullet hole through his head, and a knife stab in his body He was sup? pose^ to be a Kentuckian, whose father has purchased real estate in the neighborhood, and died in Kentucky without entirely paying for it, and the son bad promised to take the money and complete the payment. The dead man's pockfets were rifled, and no clue left to identify trim or his murderers.
During the same week the body of another nian was found hid in a stump in the woods near the Taylorsville and Huntingburg road, frozen stiff, with no olue as to how it got there, and on Satur* day last, as Mr. Moritz "Williams of Huntingburg was riding home from Taylorsville, where he had been to collect tome money due him from one of the Bice's, he was assaulted on the road, by three highwaymen, who commanded him'to surrender, but be put the spurs to hia tiorse and broke from them, at the mm4 time firing two shots at them from a revolver, but without hitting either of them. He was so badly scared that he was glad to get away with a whole hide himelf.

The Senate tcok up the bill to promote commerce between tho States, &c., the Air Line railroad bill, which was read at length
Mr. Sherman s^id the Committee had aop thought it necessary to make a written report in favor of tbis bill, because a ihehiber of the House from Illinois, Washourne, had already made a report upon the subject discussiDg fully the legal questions involved.
