The Boston papers have finally got the returns from Danvers, Duxbury and tfautucket, and now figure out Geaht'u majority in Jiassaehcusetts at 76,442, and ClAHJtfs,, for Governor, at 67,49. There area few mora smftil towns to tie counted in, and these will carry Ghaut's majority to over 77,000, which will be in excess of Lihcolk's in 1864. .. mggggggggggggSS iHjMissouri the negro suffrage amendment to the State Constitution was debated by a large majority. Bt: while giving a majority of 2,884 for Gjuwt, gives 8,825 against it, The Democrat says "the friends of the measure are by no means discouraged. Iowa and itinnesota did sot adopt universal suf* frag* when the matter was first brought to a vote, and Missouri may do as well on the second trial as those States did." This is a reasonable expectation
A ^BMSYLVAIOA paper urges the somewhat novel proposition that newspapers shall be introduced into the public schools as readers. This is another step in practical teaching, but these are-grave arguments against the measure a3 well as for it Many of the Readers now in use are miserable enough in the matter and style ofti* .Selections,, but the crxib#inal newspapers would be very hazardous models for j^lldrejItVso far at Regards literary excellence or finish.
AndenonTllle -—Winder's Fiendish .VV.V''.-" During the recent officialtour of Veteran officer of the fegular army to the oeifieteries oHhe itnion dead in the South, he had a personal opportunity of inspect* ing the grounds occupied during the rebellion by the infamous prison pens known in history as Aiidersonville, Gs. The stockades and sheds have been re-, moved, and the blasted spot eonverted into a burial ground where some fifteen thousand of the their last sleep." Andersonville is not evea arhamletip It is a deserted plwae^ with only one or two little shanties, and was selected for the express purpose of making the brave men there confined ,as miserable as possible, and of removing them from all iatejaoars* with tbe outside^wort# ''^a'so»»- ||6rta have been madfeto rescue Winder, the commander of this post, from tiia responsibility oft&e cruelty inflieted upon theseriMtary prisoners, and especially frorii^the shame of giving afti iQrde*.• f$r massacre on the appr^ohsof-'SHEBMAN'a army,- the gentleman in"question took some pains to investigate ...the facts, and his .conclusions ate thaVfhe toorst that was charged against^ia man falls below the horrid realiiy. ^Ia proof of his judgment: he haa handed to the editor of tha Philadelphia Prm the following eitrfict from a book ptfljlished by Dr. Ambbose Spencer, who resided near Andersonville when it "was occupied by the rebel government as. a prison. He was perfectly and personally acquainted with everything that transpired there during "WiNfcEB's admThistrav lion. Dr. Bpbncbr is a son of the late John O. Spxnobb, of New York^Secretary of War, and afterwards Sefir&aiWiof the Treasury, under Resident Tyi§i|Jitji previously in Congress and da other high positions. He has resided many years in the South, and is everywhere acoepted as a trustworthy and reliable man. This testimtony is borne to his character by all our friends in Georgia, including officers of the army and Union men generally. The horrible order of "Wxhdkb, incorporated in this published statement of Dr. Spbnceb, has been duly examined and compared With the brfgina^thua placiBg its qgthentioity beyond all cavil: B£TKACT8 FROM SB. A. WPXNCER'ft ACcororr o* asx*bsosyiu.b tumorf.
To complete his precautions for the safla keeping of tate charge, or to quell any disposition to revolt, ha had placed, through General Winder's orders, a battery of
olJ six pieces of artillery, which com. manded the whole interior of the prison, and which was kept charged with grape and canister, ready for instant aervlrfe.— The orders to the officer in command were to "sweep the stockade" if there was any appearance of mutiny, or any unusual crowding together of its inmates.
The artillerists were on duty at night at well as in the day, and were relieved at their guns as regularly as were the customary sentinels on guard. The position of the battery upon a hill and overlooking the prison, while it commanded its whole interior, was such that, if the order had ever been given to fire, its buttling grape-iiwotoldfiw*# borne death and desolation to many thousands. •When Gen. Kilpatrick, of the Union army, was expected to advance in his raid as far as Andersonville^ the following order was issued: [oKDKsauo. 13.] HEADQtfABTXBS CoitTESBBATB STATES

The Last Hoars of A. J.
rromJflornej'ii.Prets.j The close of Andrew Johnson admin" iatration is vastly like that of James Bujenanan's. The only members of his (Cabinet who retain their self-respect, are |beginning to cut loose. The despatches from the New York Evening Post, ofyesjterday, indicate that Mr. Seward is injcensed at the course of Revardy John bod, our Minister to London, and that Uhe latter has been acting under outside •orders from A. J. in the matter of the Alabama claims. Possibly Mr. Seward's endorsement of Grant at Auburn just before the last election, has had some [thing to do with the conflict.
As the end approaches, Androw John IsoTMn ha^'ample time to 6cSnpare Inotes with himself. He may run a safe (parallel with the long line of recreant Vice Presidents, begin nine with Burr and ending with Breckinridge, and may •read, in the blaze of Grant's resplendent vlctofy, the fulfill«d prophecies of those who insisted that his course would terminate exactly like theirs. Bis last chance for self-vindication will be pregented &a eoming annual message, jWharein, if he is half as candid as he has 'been perfidious ha may at least raacue himself from utter shame by confessing th*t his administration has been as great la^uodety and nearly as great a crime, aa tfii rebellion itself. Time generally sets all things right but it ia not often reserved to &. public man to complete the circla of ihia own follies and transgrenions in so short a period, and to be tried and ^condemned before he has reached the triof impartial posterity.
