of our city,
and of the country generally, require a restor ation and the permanent establishment of confidence. So long as the cry is still hurled in our ears by the Democracy that the Tammany leaders'must be successful, just so long will we have a commercial psople frightened from the spirit of enterprise by the awful appari tion of a socofid rebellion. Men cannot in the face of such a possibility enter in to an operation, the suooess of which de« pends on the future, when they know that desperate hands are on the throat of trade. To avoid being crushed they must assert themselves in tbe coming election, and silence the revolutionists and their hateful creed together.

in this city who
votes for Blair, will vote for a man, for the second highest office in the Govern
whom, he knows to have been guilty of telling a falsehood,
on tbe occasion of
his recent visit here. We challenge any Democrat to disprove this charge against Blair, and we are prepared to refer to Democrats in good
standing, who will readily admit that the charge iB true. Has the Democratic party fallen so low as to support a man for the great office of Vice President, who not only slandered Democrats, but bad the audacity to return and
to those same men about
that same slander, which they heard him utter'?. If so. then is the party fallen to that low estate, whence its redemption seems hopeless.
