RECRUITS for the GRANT and
JOHN
Within two years the Democratic vote of this State has increased nearly sixteen thousand. The radical increase in that time was less tban two thousand.—«7b«j*a 1
And tho Democratic vote would have Cincreasod" another thousand or two had not the Democratic leaders supposed they bad arranged for a sufficient "increase.'
THE Democracy are giving out that they expect a large increase of their vote in this State next Tuesday. We do hot see from what quarter such an increase can well come. On the contrary, we confidently expect to see a falling off, especially in the river counties. But our -fvionrla should be on their guard at all points.

You can vote for me with entire safety. I won't do any harm. I can't do any harm. Don't you' see there stands the Badical Congress, with its two-thirds ma--•jorlty,- ready to correct my errors and keep me strait? Vote for me, then, brethren I will be as aimable as an unweaned dove."
Two things are particularly noticeable in this prayer: First, he does not declare an intention not to do wrong if he 'CCSUM second, he unintentionally compliments a Republican Congress, who would prove, as they have proved, a shield to the country against Democratic tyrants.
"Peace" or "War."
The issue to be decided on Tuesday next, is nothing less than "Peace" or "War,"— To this it has settled down, and thinking men clearly discern the stern fact# thrqugh the smoke and amid the turmoil of the contest. With the former, we shall have Prosperity, Growth, Happinesa and Power with tho latter, destruction of trade, a curtailment of torritory, moral and political degradation, imbecile, rash-headed legislation at homo, and miserable, ignorant and corrupt representation abroad.— With the ono, we shall have a Credit that no ordinary circumstances can touch with the other, a destroyed credit at the very outset of its administration. One will bring Remuneration to the farmer, steady and profitable Employment to tbe laborer, Business to the merchant, and Success to all grades of industrial or producing pursuit*. Confidence, like a dazzling ray of Heaven's light, will glow on all the ramifications of Trade, and make the hearts of all men glad. The other will run the farmer into the front rank of a belligerent army, close up manufactories and stop work on public and private improvements, cause a destruction of oonfi. dencothat will limit business to the •meanest volume, and send failure and disaster sweeping through the land. One is tbe plain, simple meaning of the Peace Which our leader meant to secure to us, and the other would be the inevitable result of the mad declarations of the leaders, adopted by the Democratic Convention. ..T»
The country demands Keet, and requires Confidence. Let us elect GRANT, and thereby embrace Prosperity. Let us defeat the party of Revolution, and thereby avoid Commercial Ruin, and the innumerable train of disasters that follow close upon the heels of War.

musi o« uuiuo I good patriots and true members of the are the Demons who are to be voted for at community, we hope that every citizen aretno persons rr,.«»1.v will vote early in the morning, late at the Presidential election next luesaay,
night, and as often as possible during the day. If the right of suffrage is a great political light, it dfs^-rves as frequent exercise as it is possible lo give it ou the days of test. It is true that Ihere are malignant laws for the punishment of the patriotic act of voting more than once at one and the same election. Jiut it is people without any public spirit that are afraid of these bad statutes. The citizens of true national courage never -shrink from the penalty of imprisonment and mulctation attached to them but skill' fully and boldly, thty toth circumvent and defy them, thus doing high honor to their manhood and important service to their country. The only way to cover an opposing party with the shame',of defeat, is to vote as frequently again3t as possi ble. As in the field of war, against treason and invasion, every soldier is bound by all the laws of pride, justice, humanity, and valor, to give his muskst no rest in sending bullets into the camp of the enemy, so in the more important contest of the scramble for tho offices of the nation, each good citizen is under a mostsa cred duty to be as continuous as ever he can in putting votes in tho ballot-box against the speculating faction that would have all tho good things of this glorious
Republic to itself. Therefore, we say. go to the polls early, go to them late, and go to them as often as you can during the day. Universal suffrage means nothing if it does not justify this."
