cards which the Democracy intend to play in tills contest is a desperate attempt tb repair the shattered fortunes of Voorhees by swapping voles. They have no hope of electing a single candidate on tbeir county ticket and their managers have 36nt instructions throughout tbe
county for any Democrat to vote for any candidate on the Republican county ticket, if be can get a vote for -Voorbees in etcbange for his voto. Don't be caught by any such chaff Warfare strong enough to elect our entire .county ticket by a handeomo majority. Don't let Major Carter lose 6 single ballot on any pre.

Every man who calls himself a Republican should see to it that no amount of friendly feeling for any Republican candidate shall iQducehim to think of listening to an offer to swap votoe. If Republicans will do their whole duty, to-morrow, Voorhees tpll share the fate of the Democratic candidates on the county ticket and will be permitted to enjoy that privacy which he gays is so very congenial to bis feelings,

We understand the register law requires voters, where flames are not registered at the first meeting of tbe Board, to go in person before the Board in order to have their names registered. This requirement, we believe, has been complied with in this city, except the 4th Ward, where, we are informed, that one of the Board at tbe last meeting wrote nearly a hundred names on tbe register without the persons being present. What does this mean Are K«hb MoU«y^-aien io bo voted in that Ward?
The decorations of business houses on Main street Saturday morning were easily counted. Besidss a flag or two at half a dozen localities, they consisted of the the dry goods houses of Cornelius & Haggerty and Brokaw Brothers. Tho latter house is divided against itself—one half supporting tbe Republican and the other half the Democratic candidates.— On .Friday the Republican members of the house mado a handsome display, the word "Peace" being shown prominently in one cf the windows. It was quite sig niflcant on Saturday to see nearly tho same decorations with this word withdrawn.

How Democrats Love soldiers!
A Democratic Marshal Charges on a One-Legged Boy Blue!
11 becomes our duty to rocerd what a majority of our citizens regard as ono of the most shameful outrages over perpetrated in this community or elsewhere and we propose to give it to the public without extended comment, as tbo plain facts speak more forcibly than columns of denunciation conld do.
On Saturday, while the procession was passing up Main street and was crossing Third, some one or more persons standing near Davis'drug store, cheered for Grant, as, of course, any man, woman or child had a clear right to do. B. H. Cornwell, one of the marshals of tbe day, an expostmaster of Terre Haute and ex-auditor of Vigo county, hearing the cheers for Grant, rode up and ia a very loud voice and in a most excited manner declared that no one should hurrah for Grant, "It is our day," said he, "and if you don't stop that we will clean you out.' Stand ing near Cornwell, leaning on his crutches, was John Paddock, well known in this county as a most exemplary young man, a quiet, gentlemanly man who always minds his own business. He is known, too, as a one-legged soldier, havicg given bis other leg for the cause of his country. This young man knew Cornwell. and. hearing him forbid the freedom of speech thought he would have a little pleasantry with him so, looking up into hi- face and smiling, he said, in an ordinary tone, "hurrah for Grant, Mr. Cornwell." Upon this Cornwell straightened up in his saddle, brandished his heavya.cane and struck
Paddock,
John
the OIK legged soldter, a sharp
blow on his head. These are the facts, briefly and clearly stated by Mr. Paddock and other eyeWitnesses.
Since the foregoing was in type, we have received from Mr. Cornwell, by-tbe hands of a Republican neighbor, the following note, with an urgent request for its publication. Wo give his statemont, in connection with the above, having no desire to use our columns to cause any possible injury to a citizen. His card is as follows:
Editors Daily Express .- Whiie acting as Deputy Marshal at the Democratic procession Saturday morning, near the corner of Main and Third streois, I was informed that there were stones thrown from the crowd opposite into the procession. I passed over to where the crowd was congregated, in front of Davis' Drug Store, and remonstrated against any acts ot" violence being used by persons toward the Democrucy that day. About this timo I observed a young man in the crowd addressing mo, as I supposed, in language not respectful. In tho moment of excitement, believing I was insulted, I struck with my cane. Persons stand ing in front mado an opening. I discov ered that I hud struck a man who was cripple. I immediately desisted, and hurried my lioreo away. Afterwards I learned ttmt the young gentleman that I had assaulted was Mr. Paddock, youig gentleman that 1 respect very highly. Ho has always treated me kind' ly ia all relations I have had with him I regrot tho occasion very much—for cer tainly no man in tho city of Torre Haute respects the afllicted more than I do and would be less liable to commit such an act of violence upon such a person.

H. Cornwell.
Voting Places.—The following are the places of voting in the several precincts of Harrison township
First Ward—Ninth Street Engine House. Second Ward—Hill & Staver's mill Bloomington Road street, just east of the canal.
Third Ward—Sage's Cooper Shop, Second street. Fourth Ward—Engine House, Lafay ette street.
Fifth Ward—Gunn's Carpenter Shop, east of Passenger Depot. Township ontside of city—At the Old Court House.
The unprovoked attack made John Padduch, a one-legged soldier, last Saturday, created an intense excitement in town throughout Saturday afternoon and evening and yesterday morning.— There was imminent danger of serious trouble, which danger was increased by the insane conduct of hundreds of drunk, on creatures wbo ran through the streets screeching ftr "Blab" and "Vowris" and yelling in the face -of every citizen, of either sex, whom they happened meet. Mr. Paddock earnestly appealed to his friends not to create any disturbance of the pcace on his account Ho acted very manly and the Sheriff and Mayor and other assistants used their ut moat exeruons ftnd by dint of great effort on their part, as well as that of many others, a serious outbreak kss

returned on
Saturday night from Columbus, Indiana, where he spoke on Saturday to an immense audience. His speech at the Court House to-night will close his arduous and splendid services in our State campaign. We learn that he has received several invitations to speak in New York and will be likely to take part in the canvass in tho Empire State, if bis professional engagements will permit. Wherever Col. Any person who has not the legal qualifications of a voter, who either votes, or offers to vote, is liable to a heavy fine.
All false 8wearing before tho Board is perjury, punishable by imprisonment in the State's prison
Importations.—We have repeatedly called tho attention of Republicans to the fact that the Democracy arc actively engaged in the importation of votes. That parly can have no hopo of succooding at the polls, in this State, except by moans of election frauds of some kind, and it is nctivoly engaged at this work in nil quarters of Indiana. Money is furnished in abundance from tho "whhky ring'- and" from the "Belmont" wing of the Democ racy. The following are specimens of ia« t'clligcnce that daily reach the Republican Headquartors hero from reliable sources, to wit:

Illinois Sends Large Delegations
Sullivan Does' 73?
For Boveral weeks -past, as is well known, the Journal has teemed with agonized screeches for the faithful to be on band, and haa fairly gushed with boastt of the more than immetse things that would be seen, heard and done when that long promised "avalanche" should strike the startled gsza of the people of this city and rural distrjGts adjacent.
At last the long-looked-for day arrived The first rays of the sun that streamed down M^in streot fell upon mounted marshals and orderlies while tho early morn ing air was vocsl with their boasts of what the day would bring forth. But "the day -didn't seem to be in a hurry about "bringing forth5'- anything, and it was past ten o'clock before there was much appearance of unusual commotion on tho streets. Meantime: a few—very few—banners were hung out and some slight efforts were mado in the line of decorations, ..
Tho delegation from Elbridge, Illinois, filed over the bridge about 11 o'clock, and nfiado tho most imposing display of any outside delegation. They bore the mottoes: 'The Constitution .as our Fathers Made it," "Equal Rights and Equal TtfX atiori" and "General Amnesty For All Political Offenses." The last motto was exceedingly appropriate as we learn that some membfers Of that delegation stand mulch in ijeed of ''amnesty" for. bearing arms against the .Government. Other ^lacc3 in Illinois furnished "delegations and Old Sullivan sent its quota by rail.
The procession was formed with some delay -and finally commenced to move. It presented a fine appearanco, much taste li&vTHff~1re&u displayed ia the: get* ting up of several chariots for t|!^young ladies and children. The Democratic "avalanche" which struck this city, on Saturday, was. an affkir of very considerable dimensions, but was, at the same time, an extremely meager return for tbe vast and unex ampled outlay of time and money, the lavish expenditure of printer's ink, the entreaties, exhortations, commands and threats which had been brought Into requisition to bring out the maeaes aad induce a simulation of enthusiasm for a national ticket which every Democrat fn this section detests, a State ticket which is far from popular here,, and a Congressional nominee who was "utterly repudiated and denounced" in advance of his nomination:

As a political demonstration, it was far from successful. Heavy drafts on the cradle and on-the feminine portion of the community, with importations from re. mote regions, failed to swell the crowd to anything like the expected magnitude.— Public sentiment in the city, was:expressed by the darkness which pervaded Main street, and other streets on the line of march.
