Feasts, with All his abuse of thie party, is a bitter pill for the Democracy hereabouts, but it would make tho done much less nauseating if ho would to-day in some way explain away, deny, or apologise' for that memo rable spoech. Before he commonces his tirade about the Bepublican party and negro equality, it would be woll to preface it with a few explanatory remarks showing wbv he expressed that decided preference for "'a nigger"' rather than "a Democrat'' as a bedfellow. •*••.•*

It has several timos adorned our columns but we cannot refrain from giving Mr. Blair the benefit of annother issue.
Two years ago Blaib was calied out by a Fenian organization of St. Louis and made the following insulting and drunken address to them:
Gentlemen.—I am with you heart and soul, and heartily say, "God bless the Finnegans." [A voice, "Fenians General."] I know what I am talking about, and I say Finnegans. [Laughter 'ahc confusion.] And I say that I hope to aee the eanse flourish and prosper, and shall bless the day when Ireland is governed by Irishmen. In accomplishing this laudable undertaking, I will do all can to assist you. I will place myself, if needs be, at your Jiead, marck with you to Staten Island, oversee your embarkation, will stand on tba njost elevated bluff of the coast, and as you raise the green emblem over the Stars and Stripes, while your steamers, under full headway, are turning their prows to the East, I will say, goodbye God bless, said may you be successful in your_ undertaking. Mr. Toorbees and thc PTegro. JVcm tho Bock villa Bcpublic&a. lk Mr. Voorhees says the negroes of the South are nut fit for self-Government. They have never yet shown their unfit* nesB by refusing to abide by tbo result of an election, a% their masters did in 1861. Men who take-up arms to reverse the result of an election we know are unfit for telf-government. Yet Mr. Voorheet not only insists that these rebels shouldlk^ allowed govern, themselves, but tb'at they shall 'ire pat ltild officoi to govorn others. Men who cannot govern their own paseioss are not fit to govern other people. If tbe rebel party, to which Mr. Voorhees belonged during the war, had been strong enough to, accomplish their object, oar free governtoent would not be iu existence to-aay, and the world be pointing to us as a people unfit for self-government- With all the advantages of education which Mr. Voorhees and his rebel friends possessed in 1861) they showed^ themselves inferior to the negro for the negro fought to sustain government he had hitherto known only by its oppressions, while Mr. Voorhees and his rebel friends took up arms to ov erthrow and destroy a government that has showered blessinges on them all their live?. Government had oppressed the negroes for two hundred years, yet not one of them evor said he would "not vote a man, a dollar nor a gun" to defend it.-r There was not a negro in all America who had so little regard for the welfare of tho country as Mr. Voorhees exhibited in his 10th of April speech, in 1861. The difference between the rebel party and the negroes is simply this—that while the negro's want of capicity for selfgovemment is yet to be tested, the rebels have already proved their Incapacity, by rebelling against the Government because they failed to carry an election. Wherever the negro has participated in an election, so far, he has bean willing to abide by tbe result, whether successfull or not. Mr. Voorhees cannot say rs itiurh for himself and his rebel friend?.
The corn and flour porters of Farts, the "strong men," as they are commonly called, so conspicuous in thair dusty blouses and hnge white hats with brims a yard in diameter, are at present on strike and are to be mat with in every street in the city strolling along, their hands clasped behind their backs, in the first NapoieonVftTDTlte attitude, and with a stout stick under thair amis. This simultaneous promenade througo all the quarters of Paris is not altogether idle or objectless. Harder and Lynch Law in Wisconsin The Wisconsin papers report that a young married woman named Ann Wal lace, residing about five miles north of Bichland Centre, Bichland county, was murdered on Wednesday week in tho fol lowing manner, as near as Can be aacer tamed: A young man aged only about fifteen years, named Neville, who bad been working for tbe father of Mrs. Wallace's husband,, went to her house on the afternoon of Wednesday, and asked her to change pope money for him. She proceeded to do so, and showed about $25, t^hich she had earned hop-picking. Tho young manrT while Mrs. Wallace was preparing to change the money, drew a pistol and shot her, iafljctiig only a severe woundTn the fcea3, when she ran for a neighbors. The murderer picked up an axe, and: before his victim could get out of the way literally chopped her to pieces. Her bead was chopped from her body, fearful gashes were cut in her breast, body logs and arms. Th»murdcr was not dis. covered until tbe next morning. Cnly a portion of her head was found.
Tho murderer after ho had finished hig
to a neighbor's, and enquired the way to a certain point on the Mississippi river. Pursuit of the murderer was made, and be was captured at Seed's Landing, on the Mississippi river, and- brought back to Richl&bd Centre. The murder caused tho most intense excitement, and on Saturday after the funeral of the murdered woman, a madderfed crowd took the mcrderer out of the jaii and hftOged him. Exasperated men led tbo mob and frantic women pelt ed him with stones, and he was dead before ho reached the treo upon which ho was hung. Tho first jerk of tho rope, when he was being pulled through tho jail door, broke his neck. No ono interfered with tho infnrhitod4nob,"6F mado any attempt to prevent his being hung. Such an at-tea4»twould-ha»a-been.-«sol888, as the mob was composed principally of Irishmen, who wore determined to avenge the death of their country woman, who had been most foully murdered, and that for the sum of twenty-flvo dollars. The murderer, before ho was hanged, made a full confession, and boasted of how neatly ho had don,e tbe deed.
A Bare Bird-
A remarkable bird, very rare in tem perate climates, haa just been caught on the Italian shore of the Straits of Messina. It is the row-coloured thrush (turdus
eus,)
about eight inches long, with a tuft of dartrfeathers shewing a violet reflection on its head the back: and breast are a beantilnl^rosjr tint, the wings and tail brows, and tbeffeathora of tlio tail striped with white, and the feet are yellowish, and the beak a pale rod on tho upperpart, and black underneath. The bird, whichia of Asiatic origin, but also seen in Africa, is a 'great destroyer of loensta. The specimen now taken has been sent to tbe Zoological Gardens of Naplos.
flumaita has received, for its siage and its fall, the name of the Sobastapol of South America.
When the captors set themselves after the capture to clear the field of the dead, thsy discovered that many of the corpses there were women!
Saragoza gave to the sex nothing grander than that. The age of chivalry may be pa9t but that of women's heroism is not.
