And also "keep it before the people' that yoftr "Tall Sycamoie," your "illuatrious champion'' your "great statesman" is so thoroughly steeped in moral cowardice that he is incapable of making a "proposition" that bis best friends can read without shame. "Keep it before the people" that Yoob* hejes has disgusted every fair-minded Democrat in this Congressional District, by sneaking away from repeated propositions for a joint canvass. "Keep it before the people" that tbe recent correspondence between Carter and Voorhees places Voobheeb in so contemptible an atitude before the public that th a Journal is ashamed to publish it. "Keep it before the people" that, in the joint debate at Carlisle, Voobheebdodged his infamous political record, after breaking completely down in alameand impotent attempt to explain his vote against thanking the soldiers of the Union. ','Keep it before the people" that Voobhebs is unable to point to a single speech that he made during the rebellion which would not have been cheered to the echo in any rebel camp. "Keep it before the people" that on the 8th day of July, 1868, the Democracy of Terre Haute, in. mass meeting assembled, unanimously resolved "that we denounce and utterly repudiate" the action of Yoobhees in betraying Pendleton in the New York Convention. '.'Keep it before the people" that the same meeting resolved that they would neVer again support Voobheeb for any office whatever. "Keap it before the people" that Yoobhess—"the soldiers' friend"—enjoys tbe reputation of having originated the pet name of "Lincoln Dogs" for the Boys in' Blue.. .. "Keep before the people'" that, in the fertile brain of Yoobhkss originated tbe happy idea of "iron collars" for the "Lincoln Dogs." •'Keen it before the people" that, in the datk aayfh of the rebellion, this great "friend oftbe soldiers" cheered the Boys in Blue by asserting, in Snllirain county and elsewhere, that his Southern friends, •eight millions of brave Caucassians, could not be conquered." "Keep it before the people" that, in Sullivan county and elsewhere, this "soldier's friend" amused vast crowds of cop* perheads b^ inters, jeers and taunts at the efforts the soldier* were making to conquer his "eight millions of -brave-Caucas* sians."

Keep it before the people" that, when tills "friend of the soldiers" wanted the Boys in Blue to btf paid, lie tried to cut afff*very «venue by whW»-n®oney «ould be drawn from the people into the public treasury to pay the soldiers. •Keep it before peop&" that when VooBHlW"'shouted to the Bdyt in Blue:. The unavenged blood of these victims, the tears of their bereaved friends, tho poverty and suffering ot widows and orphans attest tho value of that "friendship" which Voobhebs had for the soldiers!

Keep it before the people" that Yoobhees, who blaUnUy boasts of his record, voted in Congress that it was not right to crush the rebellion, that it was not the political, civil, moral and sacred duty of the people to meet it, fight it, crush it, and forever destroy it, thereby establishing perfect and unalterable liberty.

Keep it before the pOople" that, when the infamous Maryland traitor, Habbtb, arose in bis place in the House and uttered a blasphemous invocation to Almighty God that tho TJnion arms might not triumph, Voobhsbs, "the soldiers' friend," reftised to vote against him on a resolution of censure^ thus practically approving of bis utterance, and thus loudly appealing to the world to give him a share in the eternal infamy that must cleave to the name of Harris. "Keep it before the people" that the speeches of such men as Yoobhebs, incited the assassin Booth to the murder of Abraham Lihcoln, in proof of which assertion we cite the following from one of his speeches: He said |'If tbe evil hour must come, if patriotism is to be humiliated, if the schemes of the seditious citizens are to triumph and civil strife and commotion are to cumber this fair land, then may some Bbutub [Booth] avenge the cause of liberty in the Capitol and may the authors of our ruin be tbe first TO 8TTF FULL OT ITS HOBBOBS11" "Keep it before the people" that Yoobhees went to Ohio to persuade the people of that State to vote for his friend Yallakdioham, thereby indorsing the political course of the Ohio traitor and giving hi* approval of Vaixahdigham'b language when he said to the rebels: "I hate, despise and defy the tyrannical government which has sent me among you for my opinions' sake, and shall never give it my support in its crusade upon your institntionB. But you are mistaken when you say there are but few such in the United St&tos North. Thousand are there, who would speak out, but for the military despotism that strangles them. Although tbe contest has been, and will continue to be, a bloody one, you have but to persevere, and the victory will surely be youre. You must strike home. The defensive policy lengthens the contest. The shortest road to peace is the boldest one. You can have your own terms by gaining the battle on your enemy's soil." "Keep it before the people" that the name of Voobhees was affixed, with the names of Yallamtogham and Wood, to a petition "for two Republics and a United South." "Keep it before the people" that Voorhees was selected as the* safest and best medium of communication when traitors wanted to Bell rifles to arm thej Sons of Liberty in Indiana. "Keep it before the people" that, when a leader of the Order of the Sons of Liberty wanted to know "if the bouth had means to successfully resist the Lincoln army," he could think of no man bo likely to know all about it as D. W. Yoob. HUBS. "Keep It before the people" that this "model Congressman" missed 713 times out of 1,373 roll calls, but never failed to be on hand with a "no" when an affirm, ative vote was wanted to help the Government in its efforts to throw off the hellish grip of Treason. "Keep it before the people'' that this man who is now yelling about the "enormity of paying gold interest on the bonds," was one of tho men whose votes fastened that policy on the Government in opposition to the vote* of a majority of Republican Congressmen. "Keep it before the people" that Yoobhees has publicly endorsed the course of Yallajtdigham and thereby given his approval to the sentiment of the Traitor when he said he "hoped and prayed for tbe ultimate success of the cause for which the South was fighting."

And "keep it before the people'' that candidate with auch a record dares not meet his competitor on equal terms, but refuses every proposition for a joint canvass until, goaded to desperation by the taunts and sneers of his friends, he submits a proposition that reeks with the odor of meanness, a proposition which shames and disgusts every Democrat who is not utterly lost to a sense of manliness. »SW if (it li ~mi' tt~

The very flower of our corps of correspondents is stopping at Newport, and vouches for the following: Last night, after lying down in my chamber, and being unable to sleep, delicidusly cool as it was, I could not help overhearing, from the thinness of the partition and the open transoms, a dialogue between the occupants of the adjoining room. They were evidently man and wife, whom a few years of matrimony had robbed of the sentiment they set out with. 'Jane, don't crowd me so keep your own side of the bed.' This in anything but a tender tone. 'Why, William, I'm not crowding you, and if I was you ought to be too gallant to tell me of it. There was a time when you'd have kissed me for what you scold me now.' The feminine voice shook a little at the conclusion of this sentence. 'Perhaps so but where's the use of talking of tbe past. Gallantry ib played out that's for lovers, not for married people.' 'Didn,t you declare, William, that you'd always be my lover?' 'I don't remember, I suppose I said a great many foolish things in those days, ou want to get up a scene. Woman are death on scenes.' •You're downright rude. William you'll make me hate you, Mr. Thompson. [Jane waa evidently getting up her temper.] If you said foolish thiDgs in those days, I id on he I a •I wish you hadn't!' 'So do I, with all my heart you can regret it Woree than I do.' (I hate being an unexpected confidant of any one, particularly of men and their wives. I bad cougeed and hemmed a dozen times to let them know I was an unwilling listener, but they didn't heed me.) 'Mr. Thompson you're brute. You'll repent this. I'll find men who will treat me politely, if you won't.

I'm sleepy. Do stop that tongue of yours. Jane, you're more of a devil than lever thought.' :.»a «I'm the devil's wife, yoa wr&tc&T I'll get up and sleep somewnere else, so I will.' ..

This was getting too bad I resolvede hoar no tnore,So 1 cried out, Fire! Fire!' very lustily. Jane and William were up in a second. As I ran into the hall they were there too.

Jane was pretty, and the tears in her eyes maye her look prettier and her whiteJfobe falling gracefully about her form made her more' than fancy had painted her. As I got opposite the door. Mr. Thompson, who waa lugging out a trunk, said to me: "As you have nothing, sir, will yoa be kind enough to take the bundle and fishing tackle in the corner? Never mind my wife, she'll taks care of haraelf^ **7

I did not pause. I hurried. down the jisll. I was convinced Mr. T. wits a brute, and his wife a suffering aain^?ir?'

Carious History of a Diamond Pin.

The Hartford Courant tells this story: In 1861, a lady in Hartford presented her husband with a cluster diamond pin, which he wore until May last, "when on a New Haven steamboat, he either lost it, or it was stolen from him. A few days since, the lady, wishing to replace the loss by another, visited the store where the former one was purchased, and was stfiick with tbe similarity, between ooe shown her and her former purchase" A close' examination convinced her of its idontity, and a search into its history proved it to be in 7eality, the same pin lost seven years ago. It was found on the boat by a Watchman, who sold it to one of the employesof the boat, who took it to a diamond setter in New Haven to have it changed into a ring. Thajeweler substituted another stono in its place, sold the pin to a pawn broker, and finally returned to the jewele? who sold it, and who has willingly surrendered it to its true owner.
