PITIFUL—The Democracy of the city have made so feeble and wretched an appearance, in their recent efforts to show i.If, that tender hearted Republicans are beginning to pity them. Their condition would appeal strongly to the sympathies of the people if their awful decline weref not the result of their own political crime?.

has arrived We
saw it yosterday in all its fearful agony. Tho young lady had it bad. If our girls must have it wo'll tell them how to got it up cheaply. Eat green crab apples, which will draw you into the shapo of a pretty dog walking on its hind lege, and to mako your twist of form still nearer the agony, just imagine yourself a double, humped dromedary trying to dodge under some low object.
AT LAST!—The White Boys in Blue have at last shown themselves in public. Festerday morning thirty-two men and •"even officer? marched out to the depot and embarked for Indianapolis—that is, all but one Lieutenant, who was so disgusted at the meagre turn out that he re turned to the city. Among the thirtytwo W. B's were two Germans who came from the old country in 18C6, one yeat after the war losed. We doubt if they can show tbeir discharge papers. Of the material oi which the remainder of the squad is composed we are not advised. Wo loarn free tiokets were freely offered to Fighting Boys if they would go over and assist in the demonstration, but there were no takers/' to use a commercial phrase.
elements Monday
and Tuesday were not at all in harmony with a successful agricultural exhibition but yesterday the skies brightened, and towards evening the halls begin to fill up with exhibitors with article* to exhibit, and the prospects now are that the. Pair wiil be a succfss. Up to four o'clock vesterday near six hundred entries liKd been made. We are authorized to say the books will be kept open until twelve o'clock to-day.— every mechanic, artist, farmer,
housewife or other person who has any proper article to exhibit, take it out this morning.
A walk around the grounds and through the halls yesterday, well repaid a visit, but to-day the interest will be greatly enhanced by many additions.
Thp show of stock is quite fair in the way of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs, goats and other animals. Mr. Culbertson, of Paris, contributes gome thoroughbred cattle which he will take to the State Fair, and L. B. Bacon, of Bloomfleld, Edgar county, Illinois, has some monster Chester White Hogs—one weighing eight hundred pounds.
In Power Hall Scott, Oren & Co., have one buggy and two carriages of tho most olegant manufacture. C. A. Fera & Co., exhibit some excellent specimens of spokes, hubs and felloes and also, an elegant as well as substantial spring wagon. A two.horse wagon is shown by M. B. Garred & Co., who manufacture four ileB west of the city. Plows of many varieties are contributed from tho shop of Z\pwlmit & Co., and attract much attention from farmers, as do also a corn-shell-er and a grain separator exhibited by Wirta & Swift, who propose to locato in this city for tbo manufacture of these articles.
Poultry is shown iu good variety, such as Shanghais, Bramahs, whito and colored Bantams, Poland and Black Ppaniah chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pigoonp, Guinoa i'owlos, pea-fowls, exhibited by rs. McMurtrie, Henry Parker, George Lock ridge. Sarah A. Jackson, Charles May and Ferdinand mills.
In Floral Hall Heinl Brothers occupy the contral pyramid with a choice collection of plants, flowers, boquets, twentyfive varieties of dahlias, twentv-flve varieties of roses, a dozen new varieties of begonias Ac Mrs. H. D.

Spooimons of corn of remarkable growth are shown by seventeen exhibitore red wheat by seven, and white wheat by as many oxhibitors. Monstrous pumpkins, Equashctij Shaker broom corn, oat), clover, timothy and blue ^ra&3 seed are on the table^50^

Goo. L. Baicjler makes the linest display of garden products we ever saw at any fair. Messrs. G. H. Whidden and Silas Price also help materially in this line by liberal contributions. The potatoes are exceedingly flno, exhibited by G. H« Whidden, Hiram Smith, H. D. Scotl' John Jackson and others. Mr. Whidden has twenty-four varieties of potatoes.
Grapesare not largely represented but exceedingly fine. Heinl Brothers show eight varieties from Hermann, Mo., and Mr. Henry Hawley hits some tine specimens of G'atawbas.
Apples are contributed by Wm. Patrick, J. I. Parker, James Corbon, Silas Prico. Elias Cummins makes the best show with twenty-five varieties, but we believe Origin Soules shows bettor siugle varieties.
O. Bound, of Parke county sendfl down the best Quinces. The table is also supplied with choice samples by Harvey Jackson, Silas Price, James Btirgan and Wm. Hall.
Mrs. Thos. Pugh adorns the table with some fine specimens of dried fruits. In bread, butter, honey and cake there is a large and tempting array.
Mrs. A. B. Pegg has a long line of preserves, fruit butter, fourteen varieties of jellies, collection of pickles', canned fruit, spiced pickles, wine, maple molasses, etc. This department is also well represented by Mrs. Joseph Pugh, Mrs. John Weir, Mrs. H. D. Scotti Mrs. Modesitt, and others.
Wm. Patrick and Heinl Brothers have collections of fruit and ornamental trees. Fine Art Hall was filling up last evening witS an interesting collection of needle work, painting, and ornamental work. Wax fiowers are shown by MrsGeo. W. Haberly and Mary Brady skell work by Mrs. C. C. Smock, ornamental bail1 work, Miss Mattie Grab basket of moss, cone frame and cone basket, by

We cannot go into detail with any of the foregoing articles or give proper praise, but advise our readers to visit the grounds to-day, take a walk through the halls and form their own opinions.

tho People Remember that Dan. Voorhoes never voted one dollar into the itr.aaaury iftbo United States while he was a member of Congress, yet he was eager to vote every dollar out of the [troasury as fa°t as the Republicans could put it in. In this, he tried to cripplo the iGovernment in two ways—by refusing hor support and by draining her very ilife-blood, and it madejbut little difference iu which ho might succeed. If be could have sunk the Government by paying every dime in the treasury to the soldier he would have done so. Thus the soldier can see why Dan. voted to pay the soldier when pay was asked, yet he would have voted to have paid the rebel soldier the same amount. This is why he now claims to bo the soldier's friend.—Sullivan Union, --v-Hi -'6 Vi'Mt. r.t I ~z.#

learn that a most destructivi fire
occurred in Spice Valley township, 1 awrence county, about one-half mile from Bryantville, on Friday night of] last week, which involved a loss of no| less than five or six thousand dollars.
During the night Mr. Jonathan burton was aroused from his bed b| the crackling and bright light of flames iluing from the large frame barn ou his fariu.—' When he reached the scene of conflagration the building was completely wrijjped in a sheet of Are, and its destruction being rapidly consummated. Of cjjurs'e, Mr. B. and the few men about the premises were unable to stay the flaiijs or even save a single article from thrisarn.
There were in the barn twelv fine horses and muies, over four hi^dred bushels of wheat, a large amount oijother grain, hay, farming implements, All: of tbe=e were totally destroyed,' The groans of the poor animals, ai thoy struggled in the firo, wer« heart-rendingi All of them were roasted into a crisp.
Tho firo was the work of an incefeliary —a fiend whose atrocity is beyontl description. This is the third one it the Burton family who has suffered froin the torch of tho incendiary within that past twelve months. The Burtons ha^e no idea who the fiend is who is thus venting his malice against them. His last act, however, proves him to possess a spirit as diabolical as the arch lien himself Nr.in Albany Coramercwl.
