50:

Since the above was in type we have learned from a gentleman who was present that the entire "crowd'' on the grounds during the day did not exceed two hundred and fifty. General Reuben C. Kiae introduced Ex-Governor Thomas E. Bramlette, of Kentucky, with a few remarks. The latter gentleman was so coldly received and felt the chill from Maine so badly that he "froze out-' after trying to get through his exordium and subsided in about ten minutes from the time of commencement. Thomas and Reuben both leit the city in deep disgust as soon as they could get transportation.

ATLANTIC & GREAT WESTERN RAIL

WAY.—We earnestly advise our readers in going east to give the road a trial— This advice is given to those who have not passed over it it is not needed with such as have tried its luxurious coaches, widoand roomy its broad gauge and fast time. By »n arrangement with the N. Y. & Erie road, coaches are now run through from Cincinnati to New YorkTaking one of those moving palaces at Cincinnati or Dayton one evening the pa?songer is landed at New York the second morning without lurther care as to self or baggage, and the loss of only one day's time.

Mr. Thos.

13. Long, County School Examiner, forwarded his report ttf the Superintendent of Public Instruction. It is in tabular form with a huge array of figures and for a lawyer, who, like an editor, is not expected to make a respectable figure, or whoso cbirography is seldom intelligible, it is an exceedingly neat document. We doubt if a more correct report goes up to the State Superintendent. Where the figures have not been furnished, Mr. Lor.g Las hunted them up in order to make it full and complete. -s

THE WHITE BOYS

for September

Two Millions of Dollars have been spent by tho Receiver of the Atlantic & Groat Western Railway, during the past sixteen months, in placing its track, roadbed and rolling stock in the most perfect condition known to the engineering and me, chanical skill of the age. The most enormous improvements and renewals have boon, during tho poriod named, continually in progress. Ttco Hundred Miles of new rails, weighing sixty-five pounds to the yard, of tbe best quality aad moatappraved pattern, laid with the celebrated fish-plate joint, have taken the place of old ones, rendering the track like one continuous rail, and preventing the jarring and noise so exhausting and disagreeable to passengers. Five Hundred Thousand new ^oak cross-ties have been laid new bridges, durable and substantial, have been built trestlej|works have been replaced by solid earth and stone embankments and new day cars and sleeping coaches, combining the greatest elegance and comfort, have been placed upon the line. These gigantic improve* ments are an assurance to the traveling public that no pains or expense will be spared bv its Managers to render this road a superior route in all respects, and recommend it to the consideration and patronage of all who desire the utmost attainable" comfort and safety in traveling. dtf

BLUE.—Many

good people who despair of over seeing the names of the White Boys paraded in print, expected that yesterday, on the occasion of their picnic at Early Grove, a procession would be formed, as is usual with all other organizations, and thus the composition of the W. B's. would be made visible. But in this all were disappointed. Tout's Band after parading about the streets, led by a Marshal in uniform, red sash and sword, proceeded to the ground, and the W. B's one by one, did the same. Of the proceedings at the ground we cannot speak, not being pro* vided with a card of admission, although we learn that during the day, in the attempet to secure a crowd, tickets were freely given away.
