"LET US HAVE PEACE W informed yesterday that some members of the Fighting Boys in Blue have openly threatened the destruction of the.IouRXAi OFFICE Journal.
That is all gammon. Kvery Fighting Boy know? that the more the Journal raves the larger will be the 'Republican vote ie this county. You can't get a chance to play the favorite Democratic role of martyr. Your great apoHle, Yallandigham, played that out.

Will take place previous to the Speaking, in which the Fighting Boys in Blue,
Tanners and various Township Organiza
tions will participate.
Lot everybody come, hear these elo

stration that will do honor to our gallant
standard bearers.
MAYOR'S COURT.—Two cases of drunkenness and one of assault and battery were disposed of with the usual correc tives yesterday. There was a second case of assault and battery, but the defendant, who is one of our belt citizens, convinced his Honor that in knocking the man down, it was from no malice whatever, and, strange as it may appear, really for the man's good, and he was discharged. All who were present and heard the statement, some oi whom were eye witnesses of the transaction, were of the opinion the Mayor acted propeily. It was one of those peculiar caBes in which the least publicity given the better— each of the parties having been and are now the best of friends—and we give no names.
CLOTHING
1—Itis
always a pleasure to
notice the enterprising business man—one who feels an especial pride in meeting the demands of the public, and who labors to establish a reputation for his houee by keeping a stock of goods which will bear the most rigid scrutiny, and then keeping the people posted by judicious advertising. Such a man is sure of success, and such a man is W. H. Bannister, of the well established Union Clothing Store.
He has recently visited New York and bought largely. His assortment of readymade goods comprises every variety of clothing, manufactured in the latest styles and of material equal to the best offered in the market.
He is also now receiving asplendid line of piece goods, consisting in part of fine French and English Cassimeres and Chevoits for business suits, Beavers in various grades and styles, black and colored cloths and cassimeres, beautiful styles of American cassimeres.
In the furnishing department he is well stocked with gloves, hosiery, handkerchiefs, suspenders, ties, satchels, valises shawls, knit jackets, wollen shirts and white shirts of the beet material made to order.
He has in his employ the best of workmen, and to make the ^establishment complete, Mr. Black, the favorite cutter, will continue to superintend the Merchant Tailoing Department.
Drop in, examine the goods and leave your^measure fcr a nice business suit, bearing in mind that the best goods are the cheapest.
THE MEETING LAST NIGHT.—Our distinguished townsman Col. Thomas H. Nelson, Republican candidate for Elector at Large, was one of the earliest—if not the first—of the candidates on the State ticket to enter into the pending canvass. He has visited every part of the State and spoken to many of the largest audiences ever addressed by any political speaker in this part of the country. So
grcHt has be6n the
demand for his orator
ical services that it was with no little dif-
ficulty that our friends in other localities could be induced to relinquish their supposed claim upon him long enough to admit of his addressing his fellow-citi zens of this county before the close of the canvass. An appointment here was, however, by some sort of strategy sand wiched in between two series of appointments under direction of the State Cen tral Committee, and our citizens were gratified last night with an opportunity to hear, and to testify their respect for a gentleman who, unlike the "Prophet spoken of in holy writ, has honor among his own friends and fellow-citizens.
At o'clock the Battalion of Fighting Boys in Blue, under command of Li6ut. Colonel Gilmore, formed at Headquarters and, preceded by Stephens' martial band, marched to the Terre Haute House and escorted Col. Nelson to the Court House, where one of the best audiences of the season, including an unusual number of ladies and a fair delegation of the more liberal Democrats, had assembled. On arriving in front of the stand the Fighting Boys gave three cheer* for Grant & Colfax, three more for Col. Nelson, around or two for Major Carter and a "miscellaneous assortment'' for other candidates and the cause jjeiif rally.
Without the unnecessary formality of an introduction Col. Nelson proceeded with the business in hand.
He briefly and gracefully expressed his gratification at having an opportunity to address his friends in this city on the grave questions at issue in^this campaign questions on which he believed the peace,
tranquility and prosperity, if not the per« petuity of the Government depends. The question which he proposed to discuss wae "Who are now and have bean the true friends of the Government To the diecuEsion of this question he ad» dressed himself with that unaffected zoai whhh characterizes all his oratorical efforts. We do not propose to attempt any condensation of a speech to which no synopsis could do justice. It was one of the best addresses which the campaign has elicited from any source, and was beard with that attention which is only secured by those orators who can command the feelings and sway the hearts of their auditors. Col. Nelson spoke near two hours, and his remarks throughout were greeted with enthusiastic applause.
The meeting closed with three rousing cheers for Grant and Colfax, three for "Old Honesty" Baker and the State Ticket, three for our next Representative W- W. Carter, and three for Col. Nelson, and the audience went home in jolly good humor. We want a dozen more just such meetings immediately.
The Two Meetings—Tlie Contrast.
EDITOR EXPRESS:—Through the columns of your paper I would like to say a few words about the trouble that occurred at the village of Prairieton last Saturday night.
You will remember that some two weeks ago the Democracy held a meeting at that place. At least one-third of that meeting was Republican?, and yet the meeting was not disturbed in any way. It is true, some of the boys captured a two gallon jug of whisky that went down from Terre Haute, thus cheating them out of their :platform,!' but they met with no insults from any of the large number of Republican there.
At the meeting held there last Saturday night by the Republicans, the das* tardly draft-sneaks, bounty-jumpers, sol-dier-haters, rebel lovers, and a few hospital pirnps, who call themselves "White Boys in Blue," did things that only low, dirty trash are capable of doing. Ashort time before the procession marched down, a citizen of the village saw some of them gathering up rocks and asked them what they were going to do with them. The answer was—"By G—d sir, when that procession comes we intend to use them.'
Another person heard them saying that this would be such a nice time to practice throwing. These two gentlemen are both perfectly reliable, and what they say can be depended upon. When the procession commenced the march, they were greeted with howls for Seymour and Blair the only notice given these howls was to cheer tor Grant and Colfax, The truth is that the procession so far out done theirs, both in numbers and appear ance that it made thera mad,'-and*the more they saw, the "madder" they got until they could hold themselves no longer and so vented their spite by throwing rocks. A good many of the boys were hit, and some of them hurt seriously. Mr. Walter Dickerson's wagon was standing on the side of the street filled with ladies—it was struck four or five times. A lady in another wagon had a lamp knocked out of her hand and many other things done that are too dirty to mention. If they were roughly handled by the boys afterwards, they have no one to blame but themselves, for they had no cause whatever for throwing, as any honest man who was there will bear witness. This rowdy spirit should be put down where ever it exist, whether in the Dem ocratic or the Republican party. If it ia not, trouble will come from it, and innocent persons may be caused to suffer.

IT is said that more applications have been made for space for exhibition of goods and machinery at the State Fair than ever before, so long before opening day. It is also said that the exhibition of horses and stock will be much the best ever seen in this State.

Boys has fresh names to add to its battle record. Heretofore "Jo. Barrett's Grocery" and "Nigger Meeting-house" have stood alone on its list of engagements. Now, however, this brave battalion points to its "tattered banner" and shows inscribed thereon, "Mrs. Busweils's Milk House"' and "The storming of Mrs. TOWBsend's Cellar."
A WARSAW dispatch of the Tth says: Senator Hendricks spoke to-day at this place to the Democracy. Immense efforts had been made to get out a crowd, but it was a failure both in enthusiasm and numbers. There were one hundred and five vehicles of all descriptions in the procession, that would average about three voters to oacb, many of them being entirely filled with boys and girls.
There were probably 1,800 persons in town, fully one-third of whom were Republicans. The speech has fallen very fiat. The Democrats are despondent and the Republicans jubilant.
The Democracy are now making preparations for a one-horse meeting in front of the Kentucky House to-night.
It is safe to say that they have paid more money for whisky to-day than the whole party in this country ever paid for the benefit of their country.
THE South-western District Fair will begin at the Fair Grounds, sear Evansville on Tuesday next. The premium list is one of the largest ever offered in fact, the largest ever offered in that part of the State. The second premium for the races is $1,000—$700 to the first horse, $200 to the second, and $100 to the third. On the third race a premium of $10,000 is offered—6,000 to the first horse, $2,500 to the second, and $1,500 to the second, and $1,500 to the third. An entrance fee of 10 per cent, -will be required to compete for these prizes. The Fair will, no doubt, be one cf the most attractive ever held in Southern Indianai and it is expected that there will boa splendid display of stock.
A MAN of the Democratic persuasion emigrating to the county of Posoy, stopped in this city the other day to make some purchases. The clerk with whom he dealt held the following conversation with him.
Clerk—From what county are you? Dem—Orange. C.—What is the politics of that county?
D.—It will be Republican in October. C.—The Democrats are gaining there, are they
D.—(Confidentially)—Look here, stranger, I tell you what it is we're gone up. The Democrats will get beat worse'n ever this Fall. I was up to Indianapolis the other day, and everything there was for Grant. It's Grant, Grant, Grant, everywhere and all the time. And its the same way out in Orange. I offered to bet $50 that Seymour and Blair would be beat, and nobody'd take it. We'll get beat this Fall worse than ever, and there' no use 0' talkin'."
And the poor man went sadly on his disconsolate journey toward the county of Po9ey.—Nw Albany Commerial.
